Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Quietly Ruthless

Whenever those aberrant creatures crawling from various corners and the ceiling showed their heads, countless dense, high-speed Water Bombs were ready and waiting for them.

"SWISH SWISH SWISH!"

The water projectiles shot out, each one landing a precise headshot. The zombies instantly collapsed and twitched. The sheer satisfaction of the sight left the crowd clicking their tongues in awe.

John Jacobs, Penny Page, and the others following closely behind were completely stunned by Luna Dawson’s swift, ruthless, and precise superpower manipulation.

This... this was way too strong!

Could this be the power of the Third Rank?

Superpower Users could generally sense the superpower fluctuations of their peers. There were only two situations where they couldn’t: either the other party was an ordinary person without a superpower, or the other party’s superpower was of a higher rank than their own, and the tier suppression left the weaker party completely oblivious.

Third Rank?!

The Military Command did not lack Crystal Cores, and some Second Order Superpower Users were constantly absorbing them, yet they still couldn’t rank up. Proficiency in superpower manipulation, the density of the superpower, the absorption rate of Crystal Cores, and the sheer quantity of Crystal Cores—all of these were indispensable. Ranking up was truly not something one could achieve just by wanting it.

Even though some exceptionally gifted individuals managed to force their rank up purely by spamming Crystal Cores, it was discovered that superpowers built this way were just empty shells, incredibly hollow. Superpowers were like swords; they only became sharp enough after being tempered through a thousand trials.

Therefore, up until now, there were genuinely very few people in the entire Kensington Base who had reached the Third Rank.

Water Abilities were categorized as support-type superpowers. Generally, such users stayed in the base under protection, obediently providing purified water. No one expected this woman’s Water Ability to be so formidable!

Was a Third Rank Water Ability inherently this powerful? Or was this person herself special?

As they walked, climbing up to the tenth floor, Rollo’s body flickered and floated back into the air. It circled around Luna Dawson as if urging her on.

Ron Rivers, however, walked slower and slower. He gasped for breath every two steps and kept complaining. "Why are these stairs so high? I’m exhausted... I can’t take this anymore..."

John Jacobs patiently supported him, a helpless tone in his voice. "Just hold on a little longer. We will definitely be able to break out today."

"Hold on, hold on, that’s all you know how to say!" Ron Rivers shook off John’s arm, putting on airs. "I’m Chief Rivers’s son. Is this how you treat me? If anything happens to me, you’ll all be held responsible!"

Luna Dawson, losing her patience, turned her head and shot him a cold glare. "Keep bitching and you can kiss your legs goodbye! As long as you don’t die, I don’t care if you’re missing an arm or a leg. Dragging half a corpse back works just fine for me."

Ron Rivers instantly shut his mouth. He shrank his neck, not daring to complain anymore, but his pace remained sluggish, forcefully dragging down the speed of the entire team.

With every floor they climbed, over a dozen pairs of gray, lifeless zombie eyes would turn toward them in unison from ajar hospital rooms and down the corridors. Once those sunken, wide eyes sensed a fresh, living human feast, their hollow numbness instantly morphed into bloodthirsty excitement.

"AWOO!"

"URGH! URGH!"

Some were missing hands, others missing feet, but without exception, they all erupted with boundless energy. With a chorus of howls, they swung their mutilated bodies and lunged at the group. Their shoes flew off as they sprinted barefoot across the freezing floor.

"SLAP SLAP SLAP!" The sound of their footsteps hammered against the group’s fragile nerves!

It was dinner time!

A grand feast!

They were starving!

Faces that had been dead for months closed in on the group. A foul, rotting stench hit their faces. The zombies’ cheeks were hollow, and the corners of their mouths were torn all the way back to their ears. Their jaws stretched to the absolute limit of their torn muscles, revealing pitch-black throats capable of swallowing everything.

Just then, a child, looking like a mutated spider, darted out from the depths of the dimly lit wall. It hung upside down from the ceiling, its eyes glowing with a faint, chilling blue light that was exceptionally terrifying.

"CLICK CLACK!"

It cradled a stuffed rabbit doll in its arms. Around its mouth was a ring of dark red, minced meat stains, yet the rest of its body was absurdly clean. Its gaze instantly locked onto Luna Dawson.

Its fingernails lengthened in a flash. Clinging to the wall, it moved with astonishing speed, almost like teleportation, and pounced straight for Luna Dawson’s neck in less than a second.

As it closed the distance, the sunlight streaming through the window illuminated its features. Only then did the group realize it was actually smiling, revealing a mouth full of razor-sharp fangs.

"ROAR!"

Its eyes were dead-set on the carotid artery in Luna Dawson’s neck; a deadly ferocity was hidden within its youthful frame.

"SWISH!"

Almost at the exact moment the little monster pounced, Luna Dawson slightly shifted her stance. Cold light flashed from the Triangular Spikes in her hands as she slashed outward without hesitation!

Everyone’s hearts clenched. But in the next second, the little monster actually clung to the wall fast enough to leave an afterimage. Its body twisted in a bizarre manner, narrowly dodging the blades.

Luna Dawson’s Triangular Spikes stabbed heavily into the wall, sending a shower of cement and brick debris flying. She missed!

"RAAAARGH!"

The little monster let out a piercing screech. Bending as if it had no bones, it clamped its bloody maw onto the twin blades. The sharp "CLANG CLANG CLANG" sound was ear-splitting!

The Triangular Spikes, already hardened and extended by Blake Blue’s superpower, were incredibly tough, yet the creature managed to gnaw a clear row of tiny bite marks into them. Tearing and biting left and right, it climbed up the tips of the blades, aiming straight for Luna Dawson’s throat. It was clearly toying with its prey, exuding pure provocation.

Luna Dawson’s eyes turned cold. With a sudden burst of strength from her wrists, a Triangular Spike pierced accurately into the little monster’s left shoulder. Before it could struggle, she fiercely swung her arm in a full 360-degree arc.

"SWOOSH!"

The sound of tearing air was deafening. The little monster was sent flying like a discarded rag, crashing heavily against the opposite wall.

The other Triangular Spike followed closely behind. With a sickening thwack, it pierced through its chest, pinning it firmly to the wall!

Just as the little monster was about to let out an agonizing shriek, Luna Dawson had already condensed countless Water Bombs at her fingertips. They shot forward, spinning at high velocity, a barrage of "SWISH SWISH SWISH" noises merging into a single continuous roar!

The entire wall was instantly riddled with a dense cluster of holes by the Water Bombs. Sunlight pierced through the gaps, landing on the little monster’s slumped body. It didn’t even have time to struggle before it went completely still. The entire sequence took less than three seconds, so fast that everyone else couldn’t even catch their breath.

"Let’s see where you can scurry off to now."

Luna Dawson stepped forward swiftly. Her movement to pull out the blades was as fast as lightning. Two gleaming Crystal Cores rolled out in the process, which she casually tossed in the air before storing them in her spatial storage.

The showdown had ended too quickly. John Jacobs and the others stood frozen in place, looking at Luna Dawson in sheer shock. The afterimages, the blades missing their mark, the moment the creature was pinned to the wall—they hadn’t even managed to process a single complete motion before the battle concluded.

Everyone’s hearts were still pounding wildly, and they didn’t even dare to breathe heavily.

A soldier stepped forward, his eyes filled with the relief of having survived a disaster. "Boss, I think we really can escape. Her speed is practically on par with Commander Locke!

"Exactly! If it weren’t for her just now, we’d probably all be wiped out here."

As the soldiers spoke, Rollo cleared out the remaining zombies on the entire floor. Luna Dawson acted like a supervisor on inspection, collecting items room by room, not letting a single useful thing slip by.

She gazed toward the distant outpatient building. Faintly hearing the sound of gunfire from over there—steady and unpanicked—she felt reassured. Exhaling deeply, she took out some Crystal Core Solution to replenish her superpower. The others, seeing her relaxed demeanor, also seized every second to sit on the chairs and rest.

Staring at the steaming hot water in Luna Dawson’s hand, Barry Chandler’s annoying, grating voice sounded out again. "I want to drink hot water too. I’m thirsty."

Luna Dawson turned her head and gave him a lazy glance. "Drink if you want. We’re only resting for ten minutes."

Only then did Barry Chandler finally see Luna Dawson’s face. She had only taken off her mask to drink water, revealing that she was an absolutely unrivaled beauty.

From the moment she descended from the sky bridge to save them, all the way through hacking down zombies and fleeing for their lives, he hadn’t seen what Luna Dawson truly looked like at all. Now he realized that she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his entire life!
