The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First
Chapter 125: RendezvousChapter 125: Chapter 125: Rendezvous
Ron Rivers froze in place, his pupils shrinking drastically. He watched helplessly as the flesh and skin below his knees slowly slid off. The sickening sensation of melting flesh spread down his calves, terrifying him so much that his breathing stopped.
On his two blood-red calves, the skin tore and detached from the muscle like rotting meat. A large chunk of flesh fell to the floor. Beads of blood mixed with corrosive slime dripped down, landing on the tiled floor and emitting a HISSING smoke.
A soldier instinctively reached out to catch the skin before it hit the ground. With a HISS, his palm was instantly burned by the corrosive liquid, turning red and wrinkled as if scalded by boiling water.
"Don’t touch it!" Luna Dawson shouted.
The others all had red-rimmed eyes, completely stunned as they looked at the flayed Ron Rivers and his dissolving feet.
On the surface, Luna Dawson appeared calm, but internally, her sanity was taking a massive hit. Fortunately, she was the one who had encountered the Mutated Creepers; if it had been anyone else, they would have died an unimaginably agonizing death! The slime secreted by the Mutated Creepers was shockingly terrifying. She wondered how it managed to instantly dissolve human tissue and peel off skin.
As the adrenaline faded, the excruciating pain in Ron Rivers’s body completely erupted. He struggled madly in John Jacobs’s arms, his heart-wrenching roars piercing their eardrums. His legs were still dissolving, and the slime continued to spread upward along his calves, dyeing John Jacobs’s combat suit scarlet.
Luna Dawson raised her hand and tossed a bottle of spirit spring water to a soldier, instructing decisively, "Quickly have him wash his hands with this. Let’s see if it helps."
The soldier hurriedly unscrewed the cap and let his injured comrade wash his hands. The injured team member’s eyes filled with pleasant surprise. "It doesn’t hurt anymore! Miss Dawson, thank you so much!" He stared at his restored palm, his heart filled with sheer shock.
Hearing this, Luna Dawson’s eyes lit up. It actually worked! That meant her Crystal Core was secured! If this human-shaped Crystal Core were truly dissolved into nothing by this Corpse Dissolving Liquid, she wouldn’t even be able to get a half-price Crystal Core!
Following that, she activated her Water Ability, condensing spirit spring water that emitted a faint white mist. She steadily controlled it to wrap around Ron Rivers’s legs, even covering above his thighs to strictly prevent the corrosive liquid from spreading.
Whether the spirit spring water had taken effect or not, the enveloped Ron Rivers gradually stopped roaring and struggling. A strange light suddenly burst forth in his eyes as he stared fixedly at Luna Dawson.
The next second, he suddenly remembered something. He grabbed John Jacobs’s combat suit, his eyes bloodshot, and roared in despair, "My legs! I’ve lost my legs!"
Luna Dawson scoffed aloud and sneered sarcastically, "Yes, others merely lost their lives because of you, but you—you lost your two legs."
Ron Rivers looked up, his eyes harboring resentment, hope, and a trace of pleading. He covered his ears. "I’m not listening! I’m not listening! Don’t say such things..."
Luna Dawson raised her hand and knocked him unconscious with a swift chop to the neck. "Useless trash. Just hearing your voice annoys me."
Everyone else was left utterly speechless.
Luna Dawson had the group tidy up a bit before leading everyone up to the roof on the nineteenth floor. Having received Luna Dawson’s permission, Rollo immediately flew toward the outpatient building.
The fiery sunset clouds on the horizon were glaringly red, casting a large swath of blood-like crimson on everyone’s faces. Facing the setting sun, Luna Dawson watched Rollo fly into the distance. Her brows relaxed, and her entire figure seemed to be plated with a layer of golden light.
Carrying Ron Rivers on his back, John Jacobs stared absentmindedly at Luna Dawson bathed in the sunset. After a long while, he finally spoke, "Thank you, Miss Dawson. If it weren’t for you, we all would have perished here today."
The soldier who had been abducted earlier stared at Luna Dawson, his gaze brimming with fervor. "Miss Dawson, you are like my second parent giving me a new lease on life! I am Mason Grant, a member of the Seventh Special Operations Squad of the Special Operations Department. If you ever need anything in the future, you can come find me at the Special Operations Department anytime!"
"I’m Owen Palmer. Thank you, Miss Dawson!"
"I’m Stephen Stone. Thank you, Miss Dawson!"
The other two soldiers, their eyes welling with tears, expressed their gratitude in unison. Penny Page and his little girlfriend also bowed ninety degrees to Luna Dawson in gratitude, especially thanking her for swiftly dealing with that annoying Barry Chandler with a single kick.
Cindy Sterling carefully asked, "Miss Dawson, you mentioned that the Eternity Squad has disbanded. Is that true?"
Luna Dawson looked at them and replied indifferently, "There’s no need to thank me. I’m just getting paid to do a job.
"Susan Vaughn abandoning this idiot to flee for her own life has already spread throughout the entire Seventh District. Raymond Rivers was so furious that he indeed disbanded the squad."
Cindy Sterling hugged her boyfriend, celebrating their survival. "Good! That’s wonderful! We’ll just join another squad when we get back."
Penny Page looked at Cindy Sterling, who had buried her head in his chest. Both couldn’t help but feel a lingering fear. If Luna Dawson hadn’t arrived, their entire group would have truly been doomed. Not only would they have been bitten to death by zombies, but they might have also been pushed into the vines of the Mutated Creepers to be dissolved alive!
Some people were simply too terrifying! This apocalyptic world was far too terrifying...
Half an hour later, Rollo and Little Sweet Potato brought the main force over in batches to regroup.
Nancy Sullivan and Rhonda Dawson were the first to arrive. As soon as they saw Luna Dawson, they excitedly gathered around her, whispering and recounting the situations they had respectively encountered. Nancy Sullivan’s eyes were full of excitement. "That was my first time firing a machine gun! It felt so incredibly thrilling!"
The three chatted animatedly for quite a while. Only after confirming that everyone was safe did Luna Dawson finally remember that there was still a piece of trash who was probably about to die.
"Rhonda, this is the mission target. He only has half a life left. Quickly heal him up a bit. Even if he’s going to die, he has to wait until I get my Crystal Core first."
Rhonda Dawson looked at Ron Rivers, who was still being carried by John Jacobs. Seeing that John Jacobs’s clothes were covered in blood front and back, she was startled by the severity of the injuries and quickly stepped forward, releasing her superpower to heal Ron Rivers.
"Such severe injuries. At most, I can neutralize the corrosive liquid and heal the cross-section of the wounds. I’ll give it a try first. But as for his severed limbs, perhaps they can only regenerate once my superpower reaches a High-level rank," she said.
Luna Dawson raised her eyebrows. She recalled that in her past life, even two years into the apocalypse, she had never heard of the highest-ranked Fourth Rank Healing Ability User in Southen being able to regenerate severed limbs.
"Rhonda, just stopping the bleeding and eliminating the corrosive liquid is enough. You don’t need to fully heal him. Scraping his life back from death’s door is already letting him off too easily."
Rhonda Dawson nodded. Her Healing Ability was slowly released, and a faint white light fell upon Ron Rivers’s wounds.
Luna Dawson withdrew the layer of spirit spring water. The rotting, dark-yellow severed limbs began to smooth out at a speed visible to the naked eye. The dark-yellow pus vanished. In less than five minutes, the grotesque legs started to regain a pinkish, healthy hue.
This treatment almost completely depleted Rhonda Dawson’s superpower reserves. Fine beads of sweat oozed from her forehead. A moment later, she looked at Luna Dawson. "This person is severely injured. I had to exhaust my superpower just to stop the bleeding."
"Mhm," Luna Dawson replied. "That’s enough, that’s enough. This will do."
The others watched the sisters’ interaction, their eyes filled with envy. With formidable combat power and a Healing Ability User as a safety net, Luna Dawson’s team was truly extraordinary. As everyone subsequently saw the rest of the team arriving one after another, they gulped heavily. This was indeed a formidable team.
The rescue operation had concluded smoothly.
Kevin Keane nimbly jumped off Rollo. As soon as he saw Luna Dawson, his eyes curved into a bright smile. "Little boss, a Fourth-stage Crystal Core. For you."
The Fourth-stage Water Ability Crystal Core flew in a parabola and landed right in Luna Dawson’s arms.
Lynn Shelby sported a messy bird’s-nest hairstyle, with Little Tiger perched on his shoulder. The moment Little Tiger saw Luna Dawson, it let out a MEOW and jumped into her arms right along with the Crystal Core.
Looking at his empty shoulder, Lynn Shelby began to mutter resentfully, "Little Tiger!"
Blake Blue couldn’t help but sigh at the sight. "Old Man Forrest, how are you still getting jealous of Luna?"
Lynn Shelby shot him a side-glance and said calmly, "You block of wood. This is love; you don’t understand it at all."
