Chapter 213

Episode 54 - Intention [1]

I blinked as sweat beaded across my forehead. I was holding a wooden sword, maintaining the stance to swing it from top to bottom.
I looked around.
The floor was covered with polished black granite tiles.
Near me stood several straw training dummies, and not far away were weapon racks filled with every kind of melee weapon.
Everything else in the room was illuminated by an artificial light, a white veil floating a couple of meters above my head.
I blinked once more and remained silent, taking everything in.
’Hmm, first, the memories... Right. It seems I’ve inherited the important memories I need to understand my character, whose name is Williams.’
A boy who had been raised since childhood to become the next butler of a noble family—the Ashford Barony—by inheriting the position from his father.
But unfortunately, demons invaded the Ashford Barony. His parents died, along with the servants and the entire Ashford family.
Then, a Four-Star Awakened who happened to be passing nearby rescued him.
The rest was what I now possessed as memories.
It wasn’t Williams’s entire life, only enough for me to know who I was now.
And on top of that, I had inherited his emotions and part of his personality.
’Okay, now the second thing... I really can see.’
The answer was obvious because I was inside Williams’s body.
Even so, I looked around in amazement.
How much time had passed since I awakened into my new life as Adel?
I have been blind since birth—or at least, that’s how I remember it.
I had never seen the colors of the world or what people truly looked like.
At that moment, a smile spread across my face. I felt euphoric and, perhaps, a little unhinged.
I let the wooden sword fall from my hand and looked around.
"Hahaha, I really can see."
The colors... I stared at every color I could make out.
The black of the floor, the brown of the wood, the dark gray of the concrete, and the white of the light overhead.
I spun around as I took in everything surrounding me.
And without my smile ever fading, I felt a trace of moisture run down my cheeks.
"...."
At last, I stopped, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled.
"I’ve always been able to see the colors of Mana and emotions, but... of course, that was never enough."
I muttered as I felt a slight tremor in my hands.
"It feels like I haven’t seen the world’s colors in a very long time."
According to my memories, the last time I saw colors was in my office.
Ever since then, the world around me had always been black and white—dull, suffocating, and, of course, colors that made me feel as though I were completely alone.
Then I let out a sigh and picked the sword up from the floor.
Although it looked like a wooden sword, it was actually Inverted Heaven, my Mythic-Rank sword.
For some reason, the Memory Gate had disguised the sword.
Moreover, with nothing more than a thought, I could change its appearance.
I imagined an iron sword, and the sword in my hand transformed into one made of iron.
I performed several tests, and every result was exactly as I had imagined.
〖Stop muttering. Remember, we didn’t come here to waste time on useless things.〗
At my master’s rebuke, I quickly calmed my mind.
I had forgotten that there was a reason I had entered this Memory Gate.
’Even so...’
I looked around for one more second.
’It feels incredible to be able to see again, even if it’s only for 192 days.’
But I wasn’t complaining. In fact, I would be able to gaze upon the world around me for a little more than half a year.
Finally, I looked toward a door. It was closed, and at that moment, I couldn’t sense anyone nearby.
Then I reviewed my new memories and realized something.
’So the prologue takes place during a war between kingdoms.’
A large portion of the viscount’s household knights had been conscripted into the war, and among them was Raon, the protagonist of this Memory Gate.
The viscount and his family were always busy, so they rarely stayed at the mansion.
Most of the knights were stationed in their respective patrol sectors.
And the viscounts’ daughter, Vilenia, was only a ten-year-old girl.
She remained under the constant care of her personal maid.
So, in theory, no one should come looking for me for the time being.
’But... for how long?’
According to my memories, Williams had been training completely alone for an entire week. The only visitors he received were a few maids who brought him food.
Perhaps, because he was Raon’s squire, they treated him like a guest.
Either way, that meant I could focus on my own training.
’Mhm, apparently, Williams is only a Three-Star Awakened, so since I’m stronger than he is, all of my power came with me.’
I examined myself and, sure enough, I still possessed my Divine Body and my power as a Five-Star Awakened.
My amount of Mana and my overall stats were exactly the same as before as well—only my appearance was completely different.
I turned my head and spotted a mirror in the distance. I walked over to it and looked at my reflection.
"This guy is pretty handsome, isn’t he?"
Now I understood why, in his memories, the maids had always stared at him so intently.
Besides his attractive face, he also had the physique of someone who had trained extensively.
Gray hair, red eyes, and a height of around 1.80 meters.
"First, I need to get used to this body."
I went through a series of movements and stretches.
Then I swung the sword a few times. Finally, I circulated my mana, and after about ten minutes, I had already grown accustomed to it.
After that, I returned to the center of the training hall with my sword in hand and asked,
"How long until the Ancient Spirit’s body is fully assimilated, Master?"
The answer came immediately.
〖A couple of weeks. At most, one or two months.〗
I nodded slightly. The day when my Master would finally obtain a new body was drawing near—the Ancient Spirit’s body that I had obtained as the reward for the first Main Mission.
Several months had already passed since then, and at last, the waiting period was coming to an end.
"In that case, we can start training the Third Form."
The Third Form of Inverted Heaven was called <Intent>. As far as I remembered, it was exactly the same Third Form.
Even so, since it was part of my Master’s sword art, it probably had its own unique differences.
In any case, although the Third Form marked the end of the basics, so to speak, of the Inverted Heaven sword art...
From the Fourth Form onward, everything would be completely different, so mastering the Third Form was like finishing the prologue of a story.
"Then, let’s begin..."
Clang!
At that very moment, the doors of the training hall were thrown open.
The doors slammed hard against the wall, and a knight stepped inside. Behind him stood a serious-looking woman, and beside her was a young girl.
"...."
I frowned for a second as I realized who she was.
’What’s she doing here?’
I was confused, but I immediately bowed in greeting and said,
"What brings you here, Young Lady Vilenia?"
It was worth mentioning that my voice was completely different from my original one.
In any case, after bowing in greeting, I straightened up and looked at the girl standing in front of me.
She had emerald-colored hair and dark green eyes. She was wearing a simple dress, just as one would expect from a young noble girl.
Standing beside Vilenia was her maid, who had raised her since birth. According to my memories, Teresa was around twenty-five years old.
She had black hair, purple eyes, and wore an elegant outfit befitting her profession.
She was as tall as I was and had an expressionless gaze.
At that moment, Vilenia’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
"Hey, Williams, do you know when Raon will be back?"
Beside her, the maid named Teresa said,
"Young Lady, I’ve already told you to be patient. Lord Raon is at the front, fighting against the enemy kingdom’s forces."
"But what if Williams knows something?"
"If Sir Williams knew anything, he would tell you immediately."
At that moment, Vilenia looked at me with an expression that clearly said, ’You know something, don’t you?’ I simply shook my head.
"I’m sorry. Lord Raon didn’t tell me anything before he left, and I haven’t received any news."
Vilenia let out a sigh. Then she turned around and said as she walked out of the training hall,
"Alright. Sorry for interrupting you, Williams."
"I don’t mind, Young Lady Vilenia. Goodbye."
The door closed, and silence returned to the training hall. I stared at the door for a few seconds before looking away.
’Her visit was completely unexpected.’
I shook my head slightly.
"Alright, then let’s begin."
