Chapter 214

Episode 54 - Intention [2]
─────────────────────────────────
The tip of my sword rested against the ground as I placed both hands on the hilt.
"Alright, then could you explain it to me, Master?"
The First Form was about using Space to my advantage in different ways.
The Second Form was about using Time to my advantage, entering a world where everything was slower for me and faster for everyone else.
Then what was the Third Form?
〖First, a basic explanation of the Third Form is this... What exactly is Intent?〗
"Mhm, let’s see. Intent can refer to many different concepts, but since we’re talking about a sword art, you’re referring to Sword Intent, right?"
〖Yes, but do you know what it is?〗
"Sword Intent is something invisible. It’s solid, resilient, and depending on the intent, it can be sharp. It’s something tangible, almost like a kind of magic that uses the power of space."
"But in general, you could say it’s a special form of attack used by swordsmen."
"It’s as if they wield a type of power that isn’t simply Mana. Am I right?"
〖That’s correct〗
I gave a slight nod. I understood the concept, more or less.
Sword Intent was a unique form of attack used by swordsmen. Mages had something similar.
Mages possessed something called <Origin Magic>, a unique type of magic created by a mage with sufficient talent.
Regardless of what type of magic it was, it could possess properties that conventional magic could never have.
Sword Intent was a similar concept.
For example, in a game that uses a Class system.
When the Knight Class reaches the Sword Master rank, it attains a level where it has mastered Aura.
Unlike Mana, Aura was a unique energy exclusive to the Knight Class.
So Sword Intent was like Aura; it had its own properties and its own uses.
Every Awakened had a different Sword Intent, and above all, it was something that almost no one could learn.
And the reason was simple.
〖Using Sword Intent requires a certain level of mastery over Imagination and Will, as well as exceptional mental fortitude—something that cannot be obtained through ordinary training.〗
〖So, for the next three weeks, your main objective will be to improve your mastery of Imagination and Will until I tell you to stop.〗
〖Once you have the necessary qualifications, we can begin the first step toward the Third Form and start the real training.〗
I had several questions, but for the moment, I kept them to myself.
I decided it would be better to ask them at the end or whenever I failed to understand certain concepts.
In any case, the training that was about to begin was far from easy.
For example, Will was something I had trained while I was inside the Fallen Maiden’s Memory Gate.
Luminus was a master in that area, so I took advantage of the time when she was training Charlotte.
On the other hand, Imagination was the aspect I was most confident in.
Perhaps because I was blind and depended so heavily on my Traits to move around and understand my surroundings.
I also used my imagination as the foundation for most of my actions.
’This certainly isn’t easy.’
I have talent with the sword, but that doesn’t mean I have talent for concepts like Will or Imagination.
Even so, I had to do this to build a solid foundation.
I took a deep breath and then sat down on the ground in the lotus position.
Finally, I closed my eyes and entered a state of trance, the only way to train Will.
And perhaps Imagination as well.
’Three weeks... it might actually take me even longer.’
***
My imagination expanded, creating complex things that most people would normally struggle to picture.
The power of imagination within a mental world was almost like being a God.
For example, I imagined a vast stretch of land—a green field or valley. Then I imagined trees and vegetation.
But that entire imagined world looked like a painting, which made it even more difficult than simply imagining an ordinary field.
Because the imagination was based on a painting, it wasn’t rendered in complete detail, since the brain couldn’t recreate a painting from vague details.
Even so, training my Imagination seemed simple.
Imagine something invisible yet tangible—something like a kind of magic that has never existed.
Yes, it was simple, yet at the same time it wasn’t.
Because imagining something you had never seen, something you couldn’t even see, was simply impossible.
Nevertheless, my Master firmly insisted that I keep trying.
That made me wonder: how exactly am I supposed to imagine something invisible if, theoretically, it’s invisible and cannot be seen?
Sword Intent was something invisible that could only be perceived through the senses.
Using Sword Intent required not only the Will to create it, but also the Imagination to shape it.
Both of those aspects formed the foundation of Sword Intent.
I imagined countless absurd things, from intricate glass structures to endless mirror mazes.
All with the sole purpose of imagining something invisible, yet no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t imagine Sword Intent.
’What am I doing wrong?’
’What’s the concept I should be focusing on?’
’What’s the first step?’
’What exactly am I supposed to imagine?’
’How can I imagine something invisible?’
’What kind of image should it take?’
Questions kept surfacing as time slipped away.
Every so often, my master would pull me out of my trance so I could rest, and every time I opened my eyes, an overwhelming wave of fatigue hit me.
My eyes felt heavy with dark circles, and my mind was always filled with questions.
Time passed like that, exactly the same, over the following weeks.
At some point, I managed to gain a certain degree of mastery over Will.
Meanwhile, Imagination had been extraordinarily difficult for me from the very first day.
Ever since then, I had been stuck on a single question.
’How do you imagine something invisible or something you’ve never seen?’
To use Sword Intent, it was necessary to imagine the invisible as something tangible while simultaneously imagining and reflecting different forms.
Since Sword Intent had no fixed shape like that of a sword or a blade.
Because it manifested through Will and was shaped by Imagination, it truly had no defined form.
In any case, my master kept giving me advice, and that helped a little.
At times, I felt as though I was on the verge of succeeding, only for everything to slip away and return to the starting point.
It was as if my mind kept blocking itself; sometimes I would get close to the answer, only to drift away from it again.
The same thing continued for many days until, one day, my master said something different.
’What if you don’t actually have to imagine something invisible or something you’ve never seen?’
’What if you actually need to imagine something entirely new, something created by yourself?’
I thought about it, and countless ideas crossed my mind in that brief instant.
So I returned to my training, closed my eyes, and relied on my imagination once more.
This time, I used the kind of visualization often seen in TV shows when they try to portray something invisible.
Of course, the very concept of something invisible is that it cannot be seen.
But in TV shows and movies, they depict it as though it could be seen.
They portray it with outlines where the surrounding space is distorted, giving the impression that something invisible is there.
I used that same concept and imagined an invisible wall.
Then I experimented with different shapes until I finally created a maze.
Invisible walls that, at first glance, looked like folded space, with visible edges and corners.
Like when you throw water at someone invisible and it splashes against a surface, creating a visible layer that lets you know something invisible is there.
It didn’t take me long to imagine an invisible sword or blade.
Then I opened my eyes, and the very next second, fatigue crashed into me.
I raised a hand to my head as sweat beaded across my forehead.
’Ah, this is exhausting, but at least I finally accomplished what I wanted.’
However, I still lacked enough mastery to finally begin training the Third Form of Inverted Heaven.
I had only managed to find the answer to the problem that had kept me stuck for several weeks.
’As expected, it took me more than three weeks to figure it out.’
Today marked the fourth week. For the rest of the week, I would have to raise my mastery of Imagination to a level high enough to begin the Third Form.
As I was lost in thought, the door to the training room suddenly opened.
I raised my head to see who had entered.
’Mhm, that’s... the maid.’
The maid, Teresa, walked over to me and held something out.
It was an envelope. I looked at it for a second before raising my head to look at Teresa.
"It’s from Sir. Raon."
"Yes, the young lady received one as well."
I nodded and took the envelope. Shortly afterward, Teresa left, closing the door behind her.
Meanwhile, I opened the envelope, read its contents, and a look of understanding appeared on my face.
’Ah, so this is why nothing was known. It also looks like I’ll have to make my move soon to complete the Prologue.’
