Why choose when you can have it all?

~ Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer)

Homelander left with Ryan, a satisfied smile plastered across his face.

The start hadn’t been great—he’d been ignored the whole damn time—but the result... he’d actually earned Ryan’s respect.

Ryan was just as satisfied.

He clutched his new phone like a fanatic gripping the Holy Grail, holding it so tight his knuckles went white.

Hillel leaned against the doorframe, watching father and son fly off into the night.

In those few short minutes, the phone in his pocket had already buzzed several times.

He pulled it out. Ryan had flooded it with combo codes. The kid got a brand-new phone and didn’t send a single message to his dad. Every last one went straight to Hillel instead.

If Homelander ever found out, his heart would probably crack in half.

Hehe.

It was easy to picture: Homelander going days without a single text from his son, then finally checking Ryan’s phone and seeing the entire chat history full of The Guardian.

That scene would be fucking spectacular.

Night fell.

The neon lights of Manhattan flickered across the skyline.

Hillel took Annie January to a rooftop restaurant for a fancy dinner.

Romantic candlelight bullshit and all.

Annie January’s review was that the service was perfect, the food had rich layers of flavor, and the wine carried a hint of olive.

Hillel’s review was shorter: portions were tiny, the price was fucking ridiculous, and the waiter was the most pretentious prick he’d ever met.

He didn’t give a shit about the money though. As long as he was spoiling his girlfriend, it was worth it.

When they got back to the apartment, Annie January’s cheeks glowed with that soft rosy flush from the alcohol.

The real Annie January was peak white-girl beauty.

She kicked off her shoes, wrapped her arms tight around Hillel’s waist from behind, and pressed her cheek against his broad back like she was hanging off him.

"Hillel... sometimes I feel like I’m in a dream."

Annie January was soft as water, breathing in the man’s scent, her face full of pure attachment. "I don’t have to pretend to be weak around you. I can actually be myself, and I can do whatever the fuck I believe is right without holding back."

"I’ve pictured my future life a thousand times, but I never let myself imagine it could be this perfect."

...

Hillel spun around and scooped Annie January up into his arms.

The mood was right. Time to fuck.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

"Fuck!"

Hillel cursed under his breath.

Why the hell did someone always pick the exact worst moment to kill the vibe?

The knocking was heavy.

Hillel set Annie January down, walked over, and yanked the door open.

"What the f—"

He didn’t even finish before a blast of alcohol fumes hit him square in the face.

Standing in the doorway was Queen Maeve.

She wasn’t in costume tonight. Just a high-quality black silk slip dress with a long trench coat pulled tight over it.

"Oh, Maeve’s here?"

Hillel’s irritation spiked hard.

The Queen’s look tonight was straight-up domineering.

Her messy wine-red hair spilled over her delicate collarbones, and her cold, pale skin seemed to glow under the light.

The mature woman’s state was all wrong—eyes unfocused, cheeks flushed, radiating this aggressive, fuck-me energy that hit like a truck.

"Who were you thinking about?"

Before Hillel could answer, Maeve lunged forward and grabbed his collar hard.

She rose up on her tiptoes, took a deep swig straight from the whiskey bottle, and slammed her mouth onto his in a brutal kiss!

Hillel realized too late that the Queen was still clutching the bottle.

"Mmph!"

But it was already over.

Queen Maeve’s tongue was aggressive as hell, forcing every drop of whiskey down his throat while she devoured him, taking everything she wanted.

Annie January stood frozen in the living room, completely stunned.

Where the fuck was she? What the hell was happening?

After a split second of shock, her anger detonated like a volcano.

"Let go... let go of your mouth!!"

This bitch!! Daring to kiss her man right in front of her, on what she thought was the most perfect night!!!

The buffs were stacking hard.

If she didn’t roast this woman into a kebab today, she might as well have been drilled for nothing!!

Annie January’s eyes instantly blazed with blinding golden light. The ceiling lights flickered wildly with a loud buzzing electrical hum.

She raised her hands, a high-energy light cannon already condensing in her palms, ready to fire.

Maeve finally released him, lips swollen and glistening, red from the rush of blood.

"Honestly, feeding me alcohol? What the fuck were you thinking? You should’ve fed me cola!!"

Hillel sounded genuinely annoyed.

Maeve shoved him away, chest heaving, and wiped the alcohol from the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand.

She showed zero guilt at getting caught. Instead she raised an eyebrow.

"Oh! So the little blonde’s here too! The Guardian really does like blonde chicks!!"

Maeve strode forward, trench coat sliding down to her elbows and exposing a large stretch of snow-white skin.

She went straight in and hugged the glowing Annie January. "You know, baby, you are truly lucky as hell! Come on, your turn, baby Annie!"

Before Annie could react, Maeve’s alcohol-scented red lips went straight for her mouth without hesitation.

"Fuck off!!"

One second Starlight was ready to murder, the next she was terrified by this hardcore lesbian assault.

The light cannon in her palms was forcibly held back as she backed away in pure resistance.

Hillel was speechless.

Good thing this was Queen Maeve, someone he’d already fucked several times. If anyone else had tried to force themselves on Annie January like that, he would’ve turned them into a blood mist on the spot.

He grabbed the back of the Queen’s trench coat with one hand and dragged her backward like a misbehaving cat.

"How the hell did you drink yourself into this state? Didn’t you decide to quit?"

Maeve broke free, stumbled over to the sofa, and dropped down like she owned the place. Anyone watching would think this was her apartment.

"This place of yours... is a bit plain!"

Queen Maeve squinted around the room and said the exact same line Homelander had used.

Hillel’s eyelid twitched.

When Edgar had given him this luxury Midtown apartment for free, he’d thought Vought was being generous.

Yet both Homelander and Maeve’s first reaction was that it looked plain. Did The Seven really live that extravagantly?

"Why didn’t you come see me?"

Maeve tilted her head up, staring straight into Hillel’s eyes. Her usual cold gaze was full of vulnerability and raw grievance.

"Since we got back from the island, you haven’t come to see me for days!"

If you want to hook up, just fucking say so!

Who the hell shows up at someone else’s place and says that shit in front of their girlfriend!!

Hillel slapped his forehead.

...

Hearing that, the anger Annie January had just managed to calm surged right back up. She shot Hillel a murderous glare.

The Guardian was perfect in every other way—unstoppable strength, a heart of justice, plenty of virtues—but this philandering, lecherous personality was completely hopeless!

She had been turning a blind eye to everything that happened outside, not giving a shit what he did on the side.

But now the mistress had shown up at their home!!

What the fuck did that mean?

"I really was busy and forgot, damn it!"

Hillel muttered.

"Bullshit! Your dick can stay hard all day and you say you were too busy to remember?"

Maeve kicked off her shoes and stared straight at him, her language completely broken by the alcohol.

"You don’t have to use protection today. Do me hard twice. Ravage me. Tear me apart. It doesn’t matter. Only when I’m completely lost in it can I stop seeing those kids’ faces every time I close my eyes!"

Hillel finally understood why the Queen had gone full crazy.

PTSD.

No surprise there.

The Queen’s moral compass was still within normal limits. In the original timeline, her guilt over not saving the two kids on that plane had turned her against Homelander. In the end she’d even jumped with Soldier Boy.

Annie January’s original fury and jealousy stalled the second she heard Maeve’s reason.

So that was it.

"Maeve, you’re drunk. Tonight isn’t the right time."

Annie January fought the urge to blast Maeve across the room and tried to speak as calmly as she could.

The current girlfriend advising the mistress to come back another day.

This scene was completely surreal.
