Chapter 9 - The Hero's Journey.

Finishing everything up, I opened my newly made mirror and checked on the Hero's progress which actually surprised me a lot. He was actually sneaking round a demon stronghold.

Checking around, I found that this was actually the main command base where Volcanica and his main troops were resting. Looking at the poor guy, I closed my eyes and prayed that he would go peacefully and easily but it seems my wishes were dashed as the hero party was soon discovered and alarms rang through the encampment.

Since he is awake and knows of their invasion, this likely would lead to a final confrontation between them, right? Like I thought the two sides immediately met eyes red and clashed in the middle of their camp.

This time, the hero was able to actually match Volcanica in strength. I wanted to check his strength, but I also did not want to interfere with their fight either.

Normally with my skill in Appraisal, even my father would not be able to sense my probing, but maybe due to the natural talent and innate instincts of a hero has lead to him being able to detect and dodge my probing attempts. The few times that I have caught and analyzed him were times when he was totally off guard like in deep slumber or bathing or even when he was dead drunk.

Since I haven't watch him at those times since the last time the two clashed, I was starting to get curious on how he has grown.

This sense of anticipation continued to the late of night as I watched the hero's party finally finish the massive Volcano Dragon near a volcano.

Seeing them celebrating, I quickly decided that now they were celebrating they would be caught off guard enough that I could sneak a peek at the hero.

Even though I was being so sneaky, I was still found out by the hero who went and dodged out of the way, but I already scanned him and sat there stun locked.

Name: Luke Adolph

Title: True Hero

Race: Human/Sacred Dragon of Light

Level: 80

Magic: Grand Sacred Magic (8)...

Skill: Grand Light Extinguisher (8)...

"When did he get all of this?!" I exclaimed loudly through the library.

After quickly clearing my throat, I was relieved that I sound proofed the library when I first started closing myself into the library.

I was rather surprised as the previous scans of the hero was never at this level. Even the Title and race was different so it made me think that he had found a way to block his status screen from normally being detected which happened to fail at that moment.

Seeing the hero's true stats I could not help growing more tense.

If before I could confidently say I could suppress the hero party with a single hand, now I know that the hero alone is enough to give me trouble.

Although I would never die due to my various capabilities, this set of skills and magic as well as the instinct that I have seen him have would lead to him tracking me down like a bloodhound while dodging all attacks with pure instinct and easily blocking and cutting through attacks that were guaranteed to land.

I could not help but bite my nails in frustration with a small hint of expectation? Ever since I reached this level, even the strongest simulation in the library underground is no match for me let alone anyone alive. Now there is finally a target whom I can't guarantee a kill upon.

This situation has lead me to getting excited for the first time in a while so I no longer watched him and went to focus on training my magic to the limit.

Since this was a potential danger and the fact that that True Hero could also could continue to grow further gave me more reason to not let go of any moment.

Taking the next three months to focus in my Akashic Records, I was able to easily reach the limits possible by myself at level 10 in both Space and Mind Magic. With these, only the hero at level 100 could possibly chase me down with his inhuman instinct.

Since those reached the limit, I let the Akashic Records quickly simulate and calculate the limit for all other kinds of magic as well so I was able to soon master every magic to near the same proficiency.

Of course, a special magic like the Hero's weird Grand Sacred Magic would be the exception as I have seen that those types of spells are on another category compared to normal Light Magic. Thankfully, my Space and Mind magics can comfortably deal with that threat since my intuition is no slouch either.

So what I really have to worry about is that scary sounding skill in the Hero's kit.

Speaking of the hero, I should check on his location...

Oh.

He already arrived in the Demon King Castle. Well if I look at it this way, with my preparations to bolster the library's defense he should not be able to enter unless he somehow obtains... a... library pass.

Looking at the empty hallway and the office that had a library pass pasted on to the desk in a noticeable area was just begging for the hero to find and use to to enter the library.

Before I could lock the doors of the library, I saw the doors opened and I came face to face with the hero who was opening the Library trying to find the Demon King.

"..."

"..."

The both of us looked at each other in silence. I did not really care about the glances that the other members of the hero party were giving as I was mainly focused on the look that the hero was giving me.

In the perspective of the hero party who was weaker in magic than me, I had the appearance of an older demon with a wise and experienced look on my face.

But through the lens of the cheating hero's eyes he could see what I truly was, a young sixteen year old human looking girl wearing a set of pink rabbit pajamas reaching for the door lock.

We locked eyes for a moment before I slammed the door shut and locked it tight.

Quickly changing and getting into a more formal outfit for meeting, when I finally reopened the doors of the library the hero party finally entered the library.

"I am the librarian of this library in the Demon King Castle. Do you need anything?" I asked them. Since I was not fully paying attention, I did not know why they had arrived here.

"Do you know where the Demon King is?" The hero asked me. Although he was feeling a little awkward from our previous interactions he still decided to ask.

" I dunno." I simply responded.

"How do we know you aren't trying to mislead us!" One of the members of his Heroes party interrupted our chat. Turning to look at the interruptor, I struggled to think of what these party member's names were.

I simply remember them as Knight, Priest, and Mage since that is what they look like. Recalling the news I found with a clone from a while back, I think they were... Nah even the clones deleted the info so I could not recall.

"Who are you all?" I asked knowingly.

"We are the Hero's party!" Said the knight girl who interrupted me before. The hero wanted to speak up, but ultimately decided not to.

I looked at the knight girl with weird eyes until she asked me why I was simply staring at her.

"You know you are at... the Demon King's castle, right? Why are you saying you are the Hero's party here of all things?"

It seemed my words finally got into her head as she froze in place. The mage girl sighed in exhaustion while the priest girl patted her shoulder comforting her. The team atmosphere of this hero party is... how do you say it? Feels like an adventurer's party a lot.

I mean, I am not saying it is a bad thing, but this atmosphere seems out of place in a team like a hero's party don't you think? When I looked at the Hero he seemed to simply shrug.

"Well... well... Let us search the library and we will see if you are secretly hiding the Demon King!"

"No need, I think I found what you need."

With my Void Hands, I held on to a small device hanging in the Library. The Demon King had entered and placed the device in my room while I was speaking.

Since the castle and library did indeed belong to him, we just did not interact as he left that device hanging there. When I checked it out, I saw that it was a message device that was empty. So I ignored it until now.

Checking it just now, I saw that there was a message on the device that was labeled for the hero.

I didn't bother reading it so I placed it on the table and went to the back to take a nap. Soon after, the door of mine was knocked and I sleepily opened the door to see the Hero party in position to fight me.

"Huh. Did the demon King say something to make you wary? I don't mind, but can we fight somewhere else? I don't want to have to sort and clean the library afterwards." I groggily responded.

"Don't think you can fool us! The Demon King said that you are his hidden fourth general and that we need to face you and defeat you before we can obtain a hint of the Demon King's location!" the knight said foolhardily.

Now even the priest and mage were wary of me. With a sigh, I motioned for them to follow and lead them to the training ground below the library.

Bringing my long blank body pillow with me, I floated off the ground lying on the body pillow and pointed to the controls of the training ground and the instructions placed neatly next to them.

After some careful prodding and testing, they found out that the device was a controller for the training ground and that they had been given access to fight a simulation of herself instead of her main body.

"Are you trying to humiliate us! On guard! I will fight your main body!" The knight girl said furiously. The other two girls held her back as the hero began setting the parameters for the battle himself.

"What are you doing?! You are falling into her trap! Once we fight the simulation and we are weakened, she will come by and collect our bodies!" She said.

"Do you really think that the Demon King's words are trustworthy?" The Hero responded.

"Umm, well he is an honorable opponent so we can think he will keep his word."

"A guy willing to let a little girl fight for him while he escapes?"

"Little girl?" The three girls in the hero's party were confused. It was then that the hero realized that the others were caught in her Mental Magic and could not see through her disguise.

Walking over to her, when he got close up, he used his mutated Light magic to strengthen their perception.

"Look, this will reveal all the fog hidden in the mist. Grand Sacred Magic - True Vision!"

When he finished casting his spell, a golden eye symbol appeared on the foreheads of all three girls. Then they looked at what they saw as an elderly demon to see a sleeping and slightly drooling young girl.

"Eh! There really is a young girl here!" The priest shouted in surprise.

"How was this done?! Some kind of disguise magic? The legendary Mind magic?" The little mage was all fired up thinking of all of the possibilities.

The poor Knight girl was completely stun locked and barely stuttered out a response.

"I-I-mpossible!"

While they were all surprised, the Hero had finished his settings and activated the simulated training grounds. Shouting out for his party to be on guard, they all went back to focusing and saw their simulated opponent.

"I still think we should not do this and give her a chance!"

"Just prepare to fight and check out her strength through the simulation!"
