Chapter 10 - Facing the Simulation.
When they got into formation, the simulated Alice began with constructing a spatial barrier before creating several visible Void Hands.
"Space Magic!?" the mage girl exclaimed. When they heard that, the rest of the hero party were both excited and worried.
Then the void hands began fighting and they were all immediately put on to the back foot. Each Void Hand was the equivalent of a master spearman who would be the second strongest in the hero party if they entered it. So only the hero was left facing 6 of the hands while the rest of the party struggled against the remaining two.
It was such a one sided beatdown that I couldn't bear watching them while pretending to sleep anymore.
That's right. I was watching them making a fool of themselves in real time. The simulation I allowed them to challenge actually ramped up in difficulty the longer time passed so for now they were only getting beaten down with simple space magic. Of course, even the simplest space magic was too much for ordinary spells to face.
Watching these fools hop around might have been a bit entertaining before if I was watching them from a distance or watching someone else beat them up, but having it be my own simulated self gave me a little second hand embarrassment.
If comparing by my combat standards, the hero might be considered a challenge if he went all out, but otherwise they were all an easy lick since I was already used to facing the simulated Hero and Devil who have way better stats, abilities, and especially combat experience.
So my simulated copy also inherited some of my combat skill as well which was really what was pushing them to the brink.
Then one of their party had made a mistake and were struck through the side with a spear. It was the girl that I called a little mage. She seemed the most inexperienced with combat and was thus caught unaware by my attack.
Thankfully it was just a simulation and the wounds she had were also equally simulated, but the simulation environment replicated the feeling color and smell of blood to the utmost in order to immerse the user as much as possible.
In fact, the original device did not have this capability. The simulation was originally a lower level mind spell and only displayed a blue hologram like look. Now with my level of mind magic, I updated many of the spell circles with my knowledge and made the device like a sci-fi black technology device.
This added realism added a sense of thrill and horror when the person inside dies for the first time. I would know, since I was quite frightened the first time I tried it let alone these unexperienced heroes.
Looking into the scene they were in, they were also surprised by the scene. Then the hero exploded.
I guess he got too immersed and thought this was reality so he exploded with full force. Indeed looking at his strength objectively, he is absolutely on the level of the simulated Hero.
Then I saw his body shine with the light of the sun as he also started growing scales. Beside me was the fallen hero party member who was able to quickly recover and asked to see what was going on inside.
I allowed and she also saw what was happening inside with me.
"How could this be?! That form... Is the hero not human?" The little mage whispered. Although I was close by so I could hear her. Because of her response, I was a little confused.
"You don't know that he has half human? Weren't you all with him for so long?" I asked. I was quite genuinely curious at the fact that even his party members did not know what he was.
"I joined the party the latest. Maybe the other two would have some clue since they are closer to him and have been with him longer than I have."
Hearing her words, I decided to check their expressions and sure enough the knight seemed to only be surprised that he unleashed his strength and the Priest girl was slightly surprised, but then showed an expression where she somewhat expected it. I guess this mage girl was the only one left in the dark.
"Hey mage girl, you partner's expressions are telling me you are the only one left in the dark about this." I said snakily towards her. Maybe it was because I was talking to people for the first time in forever, or the fact that I have been watching their party antics for a while, but I was feeling more comfortable chatting with them then I was with the Demon King.
"I am not a mage! I am a bonafide Witch! There is a difference." The girl muttered in defiance. Huh? Is there a difference? Oh well. I don't really care. If I did, I would have read more than just magic books here in this library.
Connecting with my Akashic Records, I asked one of my clones to tell me the differences between the two.
"Mage's are seekers of the truth who delve deeply into the inner workings of spells and magic in order to try to find the inner workings of the world and mana. Witches are a spell casting type who specializes in various kinds of side jobs such as potions and cursing. Generally mages are stronger head on, but the debuffs and effects belonging to witches exceed that of the classic mage archetype. There is record here..."
"I don't need anything more."
That was enough since I just needed a basic understanding of the career differences to get an idea of her abilities and self.
Going back to looking at the fight, I saw the fight start to heat up. The witch girl watched closely with anxiety at the situation.
Due to the hero's sudden increase in capability, my simulation has deemed them stronger than the initial stage and switched to the second phase in which I add teleportation to myself and the Void Hands.
At first the other members of the party tried to wake him up and tell him that this was all a simulation, but my simulation cut them off physically.
Teleporting the spacial solidified spears into them, the hero simply started going insane.
On the outside, I was there having a staring match with the two members of the hero's party who had left the simulation because of their wound.
"Wendy, get over here! We will fight this evil demon long enough to buy time for Luke to escape!" The knight sternly said. Although the witch wanted to say something, she was then interrupted by the other member of her party.
"I hate to say this, but I agree with you. She is a threat exceeding that of the Demon General we fought before. Was that guy really the weakest of the demon generals?" The priest of their team said as she revealed her staff.
You are calling em on the same level as a Meer demon general? I was able to easily slaughter them back when my magic was just level 8 let alone now. Saying this is gonna really piss me off.
"Umm. Both sides don't fight! We can just all watch the hero first?" The witch girl timidly said.
Her interruption helped to ease the tension a little. This gave me a moment to calm down and laze back onto the sofa chair in the room.
"Do what you want, I will give you a mirror of remote viewing for you. I'll take a nap for now..." I said and started to close my eyes. Of course, I also had a spatial barrier as well as a spell known as Spatial Blockade which is usually used as a control type of spell, but I opened it's range so I could use it as a defensive one and fell asleep.
When the two aggressors saw this scene, they were stunned for a moment before finally turning to look at the witch girl.
Seeing their eyes, she shook her head and said she did not know. Then a mirror appeared before them and looking through it they saw the hero they looked up to locked into a fierce fight with the simulated girl.
Now facing him alone, the simulation was starting to go all out using spatial blockades, teleportation, and even spatial slashes to deal with the Hero. Unfortunately for the simulation, every time the simulation raised its hand, the hero seemed to have already guessed what would happen and dodged in advance. When escape was not possible, he simply cleaved through every obstacle even spatial barriers.
Watching the fight, the hero party grew worried as the fight continued for the next hour. In the end, the hero was barely able to get in a blow that eliminated the simulation by taking a weaker spatial slash that cut into his shoulder. In exchange, he was able to get within striking range and using a newly unveiled magic he was able to prevent teleportation and land a blow.
Outside the members of the party were all cheering for his victory but soon frowned as they saw him return to his human form and scream out before curling into a ball.
It was then he was sent back to reality where the hero party all came to him and comforted him.
"It's alright Luke. You did your best. It was just that yo0u faced the strongest demon general." The knight said to comfort him.
Wait, I think I heard something rather problematic just now?
"All of us are safe which is what matters most. Just remember not lose anyone in reality." The priest said seeming to be doing her best to comfort him.
"Umm... umm... Cheer up! We still have much room to grow! We saw the limit so we should strive to get stronger before facing the Demon King!" The Little witch said.
"Are you... all alive?" The hero finally woke from his trance and saw his team members all there staring worriedly at him.
They all nodded and said words of agreement and only then did he begin to relax.
"That's... good. Great even."
"I am sorry to interrupt the great mood everyone seems to be in." I abruptly cut off whatever moment they were having to insert my piece.
The three other members all stood up and stared warily towards me.
"What do you mean by calling me a demon general? The Demon King has not looked at me favorably and even when the other demon generals are called I still stay in the library."
"Don't try to fool us! How can such a strong demon not be at least a demon general?!" The knight girl yelled. She was even ready to pull her blade and start swinging, but the witch girl desperately pulled her back.
"Umm, maybe there is some form of miscommunication here? We should really talk it out!" The witch girl gasped as she desperately tried to pull the knight back.
"Can I see what message he left for you here?" I said. Since the letter for him was already he seen, he did not mind and simply tossed over a marble that contained a message spell over to me.
I then input mana into it and read the contents inside. When I did, I then started putting pressure onto the marble till it cracked. So that is how it is huh?
The message was framing me to be one of the demon generals under the Demon King. I guess he really dislikes me for taking his daughter huh. Well, it is not like I blame him for thinking that way. It is just that this way of dealing with it really pisses me off.
He used me as a scapegoat and took the opportunity to send the hero after me while he hid in one of the fortresses belonging to his demon generals.
How pathetic.
Right when I thought that, from the crystal I broke, a new message with a voice appeared.
"If you are hearing this message, then it is likely the evil devil who took my daughter's body and played it like a puppet who is listening. Whenever I learned of what you did, I always had a fuming anger towards you. But I also know that you have far surpassed me in strength so the most I could do was send trouble your way. Now, I even sent my biggest threat for you to take care of. Are you angry? Furious? HAHAHA! If that is so then that is exactly what I wanted. Too bad I was not there to see it. Anyways, I set up a special array around the castle that once the hero entered the library the castle would activate a spatial blocking array from the ancestral demon kings of days bygone. I know you learned Space magic so this was the only way I knew to deal with you. Have fun staying in that barrier for a thousand years!"
Well, that was intense. Jokes on him, his plan has not gone exactly how he wanted it to.
