"We're safe for now."
From within the Tree of Flesh and Blood, Yang An inquired about the Scripture Defector Association's current status and quickly received a reply.
The members of the Scripture Defector Association were still in the Fusheng Domain, trying to head east toward the Celestial Dragon Domain. For the time being, they had yet to be discovered by the Golden Soul Sect.
With White Bird's help, they were able to learn of the Golden Soul Sect's movements in advance, allowing them to stay one step ahead of their search parties.
The members of the Scripture Defector Association didn't yet know that Yang An had left the Fusheng Domain. They all assumed he was still at Earth Demon Cliff.
Through White Bird, Yang An also learned that back at Earth Demon Cliff, the Golden Soul Sect's Leader, Non-Birth, had been locked in a stalemate with the Death Lord, Huan, for quite some time. The two had clashed in several major battles, but White Bird's knowledge was limited, so the final outcome was still unknown.
'Non-Birth must know I've left the Fusheng Domain,' Yang An thought. 'This is just him lashing out in a fit of rage and humiliation.'
'My decision back then was the right one. If I had stayed in the Fusheng Domain, I would've been trapped sooner or later, with no chance to ever strike back.'
"Is there still no news of Wen Yin?"
"No, we can't contact her either."
Yang An sighed at the Scripture Defector Association's response.
Still, he tried not to worry too much. In truth, even if Wen Yin was still in the Fusheng Domain, no one would know she was a member of the Scripture Defector Association as long as she didn't reveal her identity. In that sense, she was safer than the others.
But what worried him most was her disappearance itself. He had no idea when they might be able to contact her again. For all he knew, she might have already wandered out of the Fusheng Domain.
There was nothing Yang An could do about it.
Disconnecting from the Tree of Flesh and Blood, Yang An felt he was more or less prepared. Now was the perfect time to seek an opportunity for a breakthrough.
Liu Feifei's Heart still beat powerfully in his hand. For the entire day, Yang An had been trying to merge his consciousness completely with the Power of Rules he commanded, hoping for some kind of feedback.
Unfortunately, there had been no effect so far.
He could command his Power of Rules to do anything, yet he couldn't use it to perceive what he was searching for. His senses remained trapped within a fixed range.
He had already used Liu Feifei's Heart once to communicate with the Forbidden Calamity Cauldron. This was the second time.
THUMP-THUMP—THUMP-THUMP—THUMP-THUMP—
Liu Feifei's Heart beat in Yang An's hand at a specific frequency. Yang An quickly centered himself, focusing his entire being on that rhythm until his own heartbeat perfectly synchronized with it.
In a trance, Yang An saw a massive Three-legged Cauldron appear before him, a divine artifact seemingly radiating an ancient aura.
The cauldron itself wasn't what was special; the Power of Rules it contained was.
His task was to make a wish to the Forbidden Calamity Cauldron and, through it, find that one sliver of possibility hidden within the myriad things of existence.
He didn't know if his first attempt had failed or if the results were simply delayed. But Yang An couldn't afford to wait, which was why he was now making a second attempt.
At least, having used his Purification Ability, he didn't have to worry about any negative effects on Liu Feifei or the Forbidden Calamity.
He made his wish: to find the remaining Forbidden Artifact Fragments, merge them into the Moon Forbidden Artifact, and break through to the Insect Dao. As the Three-legged Cauldron vanished, Yang An returned to reality.
He placed Liu Feifei's beating Heart on a nearby tray and casually enveloped it in a protective layer of light.
'Again!'
Yang An took a deep breath, quickly adjusting his state. Sitting cross-legged, he gradually closed his eyes. From every pore on his body, strands of light finer than silk began to emerge.
These strands of light emerged from his body and converged, weaving themselves into a constantly revolving web that soon formed a massive cocoon, enveloping him completely.
The light shone through the Glazed Tower, illuminating its peak. A rainbow-hued wheel of light formed, casting its glow over all of Nirvana City, shining even brighter than the sun rising in the sky.
Upon seeing this, the people of Nirvana City, though they had witnessed it once before, still prostrated themselves on the ground, bowing with faces full of piety.
In their eyes, this was a divine miracle from the Crane Immortal—the sacred power that protected all of Nirvana City.
Meanwhile, inside the Glazed Tower, within the cocoon of brilliant light, Yang An's physical body unraveled like a silken thread, dissolving completely until it merged with the light and became a part of it.
The light was him, and he was the light.
Only by achieving this complete integration could he attempt to sense the location of the other part.
He had failed before. This time, Yang An decided to try something different, a new method.
The light within the cocoon merged completely with the world. Under Yang An's control, threads of light began to drill into the formless void as if taking root, spreading out in all directions.
His perception remained confined within a certain limit, unable to receive any feedback from beyond it.
But if he could extend these threads of light from the other side of space to a sufficient distance, he might just make a discovery.
After all, it was common knowledge that light travels in rays and can propagate infinitely in a straight line. Perhaps this way, he could extend his senses indefinitely, reaching a place sufficiently far away.
If the actual sun weren't so distant, Yang An would have even considered connecting with it to spread his light, infinitely amplifying his perception through it.
