Time passed, second by second. Inside the cocoon of light, Yang An soon lost all track of its passage. His entire consciousness was focused on the infinite extension of his own light.
In the formless space, it swept past Nirvana City, past Little Buddha State, and continued to spread outward, completely undetected. It had already far exceeded the range of Yang An's own perception.
He hoped that, if this continued, it would eventually cover the entire Treasure Temple Domain. The farther it extended, the greater the chance of getting a response.
But he was also afraid. If the thing he was looking for wasn't in the Treasure Temple Domain, if it was beyond this domain or even at the other end of the world, what could he do even if he found out its location?
To Yang An's disappointment, however, while this method was quite effective—spreading past Little Buddha State and into other State Territories—it came to a halt after covering only a few nearby territories. It could advance no further.
He had reached his limit.
Not the limit of how far light could travel, but the limit of what he could sustain.
Although he wielded a Power of Rules said to command the Sunlight itself, he was, after all, not the sun that could illuminate the entire world.
Nothing. It was another failure.
Inside the cocoon of light, Yang An's heart was troubled.
He felt his method was correct, but he had no way to continue. Spreading across several State Territories was as far as he could go.
It seemed he had no choice but to try again in a different location, conducting a blanket search.
He had already scanned the nearby State Territories without any feedback. His only option was to leave this place and go somewhere new.
But if he did that, his already limited time probably wouldn't be enough to let him travel to many more places.
'Is what that old Monk said useful at all? Give me some kind of feedback, at least! I've used it twice with no reaction. He wasn't just tricking me, was he?'
If he was to leave, he would have to return Liu Feifei's Heart to its owner. But after using it twice in a row and getting absolutely nothing, Yang An couldn't help but feel suspicious.
'What happened to being able to find a sliver of possibility from all things in existence?'
'Even if it's not a wish-granting machine, it shouldn't be this useless.'
'Am I making the wish wrong?'
Regardless, he had failed for now. Yang An had no other ideas at the moment. It seemed his only option was to leave and try again elsewhere.
Sighing internally, Yang An prepared to retract all the light he had extended, after which he would bid farewell to Forbidden Calamity.
But just as he was urging the light, already at its limit, to return, he suddenly froze. He seemed to have discovered something.
'This direction...'
Among the countless rays of light that had spread out like roots, one single ray was still extending outward, having already surpassed the limit the others had reached!
It was such an inconspicuous ray of light. If Yang An hadn't decided to retract them, he might not even have noticed it.
The ray continued to extend westward, and it was not under Yang An's control. It was more like something was pulling it, causing it to spread on its own.
After only a moment's pause, a possibility flashed through Yang An's mind. He immediately focused all of his attention on this single ray of light.
It was at this exact moment that Yang An, despite being inside the cocoon of light, clearly felt a pulse.
This pulse was throbbing at a rapid frequency, and it caused Yang An himself to emit the same kind of pulse in response.
'This is... Liu Feifei's Heart?!'
Yang An keenly identified the source of the strange pulse. It was identical to the one from when he had used Liu Feifei's Heart before.
The frequencies of the two had synchronized once again. But this time, it was Liu Feifei's Heart that took the lead, transmitting the pulse to Yang An's side.
In that instant, he once again saw the Three-legged Cauldron filled with an ancient aura.
All the other rays of light dimmed rapidly. Only the one extending outward grew brighter and brighter, merging with the Three-legged Cauldron in that moment. Its speed of extension suddenly skyrocketed.
THUMP THUMP THUMP—THUMP THUMP THUMP—
Though Yang An was completely merged with the light, he could feel his own Heart begin to beat in time with Liu Feifei's Heart, faster and faster.
The beating of the Heart was like a continuous drumroll, or even the sound of a revving engine. The single remaining ray of light shot through one State Territory after another at an even greater speed, finally extending, right before Yang An's eyes, to a place that looked somewhat familiar.
When he saw where the light finally stopped—a familiar island, a Floating Island suspended in the sky—the ray's final destination was like a black hole it had drilled into, and this black hole was located deep within the island.
"...Celestial Saint State! The Golden Thread Pavilion!!"
'The Golden Thread Pavilion?! How could it be the Golden Thread Pavilion?!!'
The rapid throbbing of the Heart disappeared at that moment. The light had stopped in a place he had been before, confirming its location. Never in a million years would Yang An have imagined that the remnant of the Forbidden Artifact he had merged with was in the Golden Thread Pavilion.
It gave him the same absurd feeling as finally graduating from his alma mater, starting to date, and finding out the person he was marrying was his old homeroom teacher.
What was even more unbelievable to him was, why the Golden Thread Pavilion?
He had considered many places. Perhaps it wasn't in the Treasure Temple Domain, or even the Fusheng Domain. Maybe it was in one of the world's Immortal Origin Lands, or even outside the continents, in a place already devoured by a heavenly calamity.
But when the result was revealed, Yang An was completely stunned. This was too much of a coincidence!
The result couldn't be wrong. The guidance from his own Power of Rules was crystal clear. In that moment, Yang An had clearly succeeded in his summons.
He quickly broke free from the cocoon of light, retracting all the light that had spread from his body. Then he picked up the Heart from the ground, eagerly made another wish, and without hesitation, activated the Earth Spirit Stele and entered the Gray World.
Unlike the Real World, the Gray Scale was the Yang Side of the Real World. Yang An had obtained his Forbidden Artifact Fragment, "Golden Sun," in Lower Hu, within the Deep World. Therefore, he had reason to suspect that besides the one in the Real World, there must be another corresponding fragment in the Deep World.
He recalled that when he first obtained "Golden Sun," the information box had explained that this Power of Rules had just been born. For that reason, it had not yet been tainted by turbidity and required no Purification.
A Forbidden Artifact should have been complete from the moment of its creation, yet what Yang An had obtained was merely a Top Grade fragment. It was still incomplete.
Since there was a guide in reality, there must be one in the Xian Origin Land as well.
But to Yang An's surprise, a full half-month passed, and he had found nothing.
He tried the same method from within the Gray Scale. But even though his light entered the Deep World under a state of pain, there was still no response.
During this time, Fu Ming appeared by the bonfire a few times but always kept his distance. The light radiating from Yang An was too terrifying. Even though he had no intention of attacking anyone, getting too close felt extremely dangerous.
Similarly, some small fry were drawn in by Yang An's presence, only to be dealt with by Fu Ming.
Although Fu Ming didn't know what Yang An was doing, he wouldn't just stand by and watch.
Even so, the light extending from Yang An found nothing related to the Forbidden Artifact within the Gray Scale.
The light even reached all the way to Lower Hu, a place that even he didn't dare to venture into lightly now. Yet the result was nothing. It seemed there was no fragment here at all.
Finally, with no other options, Yang An left the Earth Spirit Stele and returned to reality, lost in confusion.
If there was no missing part of the Forbidden Artifact within the Earth Spirit Stele's world, but there was one in reality, did that mean... the two were from the same source? Or rather, that they were once a single, complete whole!
Yang An couldn't be sure. To find the answer, he had to find the part hidden in the Golden Thread Pavilion.
Liu Feifei's Heart had been away from her for quite some time. If Forbidden Calamity weren't protecting her, she would likely be dead by now. It was unjustifiable not to return it at this point.
But Yang An found himself caught in a difficult decision.
