The missing piece of his Forbidden Artifact Fragment was right before his eyes. Yang An never expected it to be this easy.
The object was like a useless piece of junk, left idle and ignored in this nameless cave.
The Golden Thread Pavilion was sitting on a gold mine yet treated it with such indifference. No matter how he looked at it, something felt strange.
There was no reason to leave a Forbidden Artifact Fragment like this in some corner cave, without even a single guard.
This was, after all, a supreme, forbidden power. Even if no one could fuse with it, it shouldn’t just be left unattended.
If someone else were to get their hands on it, they could unleash an attack at the cost of self-destruction, causing immense damage.
Yang An hesitated, stopping just a meter from the stone wall. Yet, the desire in his heart relentlessly urged him forward.
The part he was missing was right in front of him. As long as he obtained this Forbidden Artifact Fragment, he could smoothly break through to the Insect Dao.
With the power he commanded, breaking through to the Insect Dao would make him invincible within that realm. While it wouldn’t make him unbeatable in the entire world, at least no one would dare to provoke him lightly. He would finally have the true Power of Self-Preservation.
Once he broke through to the Insect Dao, his suffering would end and good fortune would follow.
’Take it or not?’
’Take it!’
’Even if it’s a trap, the worst that can happen is sacrificing this vessel body.’ Yang An didn’t want to let this opportunity slip by.
’If I do nothing, I get nothing. It’s better to act than not to act.’
Though desire had triumphed over reason, being governed by that desire at this moment didn’t feel so bad.
Yang An took a deep breath, mentally prepared himself, and reached for the Forbidden Artifact Fragment on the stone wall.
He encountered no resistance, nor any of the traps he had imagined. He smoothly touched the soybean-sized bead.
A message box instantly popped up before him. But just as he was about to rejoice, before he could even read its contents, he discovered that things were not that simple.
His hand was firmly gripping the bead, but he couldn’t pull it back. A terrifying suction force seemed to emanate from the bead, clamping his hand in place.
At the same time, the entire cave began to tremble.
CRUMBLE—
Rubble fell from the cracks, clattering continuously as it hit the ground.
Before Yang An’s eyes, a golden light appeared in his hand. It spread like tendrils, wrapping around his arm and crawling toward his body.
On the stone wall, the two strange patterns—an eye and a fireball—activated at the same moment.
Flames erupted from the fireball pattern, the golden blaze rapidly melting the stone wall.
The cross-shaped mark on the eye began to spin. The entire eye pattern distorted, and its black pupil-like center churned violently, as if a raging storm had been unleashed within.
Fire and black water intertwined, shrouded in a brilliant radiance that instantly illuminated the entire cave.
Although Yang An had mentally prepared for a trap, he hadn’t expected it to spring so quickly.
The moment the golden tendrils wrapped around his arm, Yang An acted decisively. He ripped his own arm off. It was just a vessel body, anyway; he felt no attachment to it.
As blood splattered, the tendrils were dyed crimson, and the entire cave was bathed in a blood-red hue.
Yang An had thought he could break free and was about to use an Escape Technique to flee, but in the next instant, he froze.
The cave he had entered, with its stone walls, had vanished without a trace. In its place was an endless expanse of blood-red light, with no way out.
He felt as if he had been enveloped and devoured by this light. He couldn’t even tell north from south; everything was saturated with light, and even his senses couldn’t penetrate it.
Yang An finally understood what the people he had attacked with similar methods must have felt. ’So this is what it’s like—this utter desperation and panic.’
But at the same time, he was glad that he had come here in a vessel body. Without further hesitation, the Mana within him erupted, destroying his current body from the inside out.
Countless streams of berserk Mana poured out of Yang An. His vessel body was rapidly disintegrating, and he could already sense his true body, ready to return to it at any moment.
But just then, the last thing he ever expected happened!
As his body entered a state of rapid self-destruction, countless light-filled tendrils suddenly extended from the surrounding blood-red glow. These tendrils quickly pierced into his collapsing form and began to rapidly restore his nearly destroyed body.
The tendrils were like threads stitching his body back together, using light to fill and heal every fracture that appeared.
In the blink of an eye, Yang An, who had been on the verge of returning to his true body, was inexplicably "saved."
Staring at his perfectly intact vessel body, which he was still controlling, still trapped within the blood-red light, Yang An was dumbfounded.
’What’s going on? Are they not letting me leave?’
The ability to restore his collapsing body in the blink of an eye was something not even the Power of Rules he had mastered could do. This made Yang An immediately realize that someone had to be pulling the strings from the shadows.
