The moment he saw this person, it was as if a heavy hammer had struck Yang An’s mind, leaving it buzzing.
He was a man in his prime, dressed in a gray robe. His features were cold and stern, as harsh as winter frost. He was looking at Yang An quietly, a faint smile playing on his lips, yet it held no warmth. Instead, it was filled with a murderous aura.
Upon seeing the man’s face, Yang An felt a sense of familiarity. The man’s features bore a strong resemblance to that unforgettable old man from his memories.
Yang An had also encountered the man’s aura and temperament before, but it had been in the Deep World of the Xian Origin Land. At that time, the man had been wearing a mask.
When this face and temperament came together, the identity of the person before him was so shocking and unexpected that Yang An could never have imagined it. He was so stunned that he felt as if his Heart had stopped beating. The hair all over his body stood on end as goosebumps prickled his skin, and a chill of pure terror shot through him.
"Life... Life Crane!"
He uttered the familiar name again, his voice trembling. It was a name that had once haunted him like a nightmare.
In response, the man whose eyes were locked with Yang An’s gave a slight nod. The smile on his face widened, appearing at once familiar and yet so very strange.
"We finally meet again, my dear disciple."
A soft voice drifted into Yang An’s ears, echoing slowly through the cave. Though it wasn’t loud, to Yang An, it was like lightning flashing across the highest heavens. Every word boomed like thunder.
Before he could react, the voice spoke again.
"However, Life Crane was merely another ’me’ that I created using the Shell Nourishing Technique. I can forgive you for calling me by name this once, but as my disciple, you should address me as Master."
Yang An was still reeling from Golden Sun Daoist’s disappearance and Life Crane’s sudden appearance, but now, the man before him said something even more unbelievable.
’The Life Crane from before was just another person he created with the Shell Nourishing Technique.’
’In other words, this is the real Life Crane. He’s also the person I saw in the Xian Origin Land—the former Boundary Repairer of the Earth Immortal Dao Sect, He.’
’No wonder I couldn’t sense Life Crane’s soul through the Bow Lady back when I killed him, or even before that.’
’Even I never would have guessed it was just another person created with the Shell Nourishing Technique.’
’The Shell Nourishing Technique came from the Golden Thread Pavilion’s Internal Affairs Elder, Elder Zhuan Yu. It’s also one of the Five Wheels Ultimate Techniques from the Earth Spirit Stele. It’s only natural that Life Crane would have mastered it as well. If so, then everything makes sense.’
What shocked Yang An the most was the aura emanating from the Life Crane before him.
That terrifying, abyssal aura seemed to be just a hint of his true power. It was even more frightening than the experts of the Insect Dao Realm that Yang An had faced before, like Xuan You of Jishan or even Non-Birth. It carried an oppressive weight, suggesting he could crush all of them with the mere lift of a finger.
’This kind of aura wouldn’t belong to someone in the Insect Dao Realm. The only thing I can think of... is the Immortal Platform.’
Yang An fell silent. It wasn’t that he didn’t know what to say, but rather that he was gripped by a sense of crisis—the feeling that if he uttered a single wrong word, he would be instantly decapitated.
’That familiar feeling is back,’ he thought. ’Even though he looks like a different person now, that unpredictable old man has the exact same temper as before.’
A rustling sound broke the silence of the cave. A white shadow shifted on Life Crane’s gray robe, moving from his back up to the top of his head, covering his long hair.
It was a white mask—the same one worn by He, the man Yang An had seen in the Deep World of the Xian Origin Land.
A crimson flame pattern was emblazoned on the mask. In that instant, it seemed to come alive. The flames transformed into fine, downy feathers, which quickly twisted and morphed into a grotesque, white-streaked head.
It was a He Tou.
The He Tou looked at Yang An and gave a human-like smile, a smile that was also disturbingly familiar to Yang An.
"KEKEKE, we meet again, little one."
