’His Power of Rules was actually broken?!’
"You..."
Green flames suddenly erupted, burning fiercely across Wen Zhao’s body. For a moment, the entire sky was cast in a green glow.
But before Wen Zhao could voice his question, Yang An’s figure appeared before him like a phantom, striking out with his palm.
The green flames tried to engulf Yang An, but his body had already transformed into a blinding light, remaining completely unaffected. The palm strike landed squarely on Wen Zhao’s face without any resistance.
BANG!
An explosive sound rang out as green flames splattered everywhere. Chunks of flesh and blood burst from the impact, but they turned to cinder before hitting the ground, then quickly disintegrated into ash.
A number of Cultivators had already fled to a safe distance, but before they could even process what had happened, the ash began to fall on them. They cried out in alarm, only to realize it was just ash, not the lingering shockwave from the clash. It was a false alarm.
But when they looked back, they saw only a headless body falling from the sky, slamming heavily onto the ground. With another loud THUD, it burst into even more ash.
For a moment, the sky above Dragonfly Bamboo Peak was filled with ash that looked like a swarm of countless black insects, dancing chaotically in the air.
The dazzling light quickly faded, revealing Yang An’s figure.
At that moment, all the Cultivators were frozen in a stunned daze.
’Elder Wen Zhao... was dead?!’
Of the two combatants, only Yang An remained standing, completely unharmed. The other had been reduced to a sky full of ash.
The entire exchange, from start to finish, happened in the blink of an eye. No one had time to react. It was only when the black embers drifted down onto them that the reality of the situation slowly sank in.
A light breeze swept past, sending a chill down the spines of the Cultivators present.
Elder Wen Zhao, one of the Sect’s Internal Affairs Elders, had been instantly killed by Elder Mu, and they had all just witnessed his death.
It felt like an illusion; no one could believe it. The very idea was sensational, and an eerie silence fell over Dragonfly Bamboo Peak.
Then, Yang An’s gaze swept over them. Countless people shivered, instinctively backing away as they looked at him in terror.
It wasn’t just because Yang An possessed the power to instantly kill Elder Wen Zhao. It was also because Wen Zhao’s death, especially at a time like this, would likely send shockwaves through the entire Golden Thread Pavilion.
But at that moment, Yang An paid no mind to their thoughts. He was pondering what the Bow Lady had just said to him.
’His soul isn’t here!’
’Wen Zhao’s soul isn’t here?’
A realization seemed to dawn on Yang An. His gaze shifted back toward the Floating Island behind the front lines, and he immediately guessed what was going on.
He had indeed killed Wen Zhao, but the man must have had a contingency plan. To prevent any accidents, he had arranged something in advance, using some method to transfer his core essence elsewhere. That way, even if his body died, he wouldn’t truly perish.
This measure probably wasn’t meant to guard against Yang An specifically; even Wen Zhao himself had never expected to die at Yang An’s hands.
The world was full of countless strange Cultivation Methods, so such a technique wasn’t surprising. If Yang An could kill him once, he could kill him again and again.
"Should we give chase?"
the Bow Lady asked curiously.
"Since I’ve already made my move, why leave any loose ends?"
Yang An replied, then turned to the crowd of anxious Cultivators watching him.
"Guard this place."
Leaving that command behind, Yang An vanished on the spot.
"Wh-what is he going to do?"
Watching Yang An suddenly disappear, everyone was struck by a terrible premonition.
Inside Wen Zhao’s personal hall, located within the Golden Thread Pavilion’s temporary base on the Floating Island, an oil lamp with a dim, murky flame sat on a wall sconce.
Though the main doors were shut tight and there wasn’t a breath of wind in the hall, the lamp’s flame suddenly began to flicker wildly on its own.
The red flame quickly turned green. A layer of green mist descended from the lamp, instantly filling the hall, and the green flame suddenly erupted.
In an instant, the green mist was absorbed by the fire. As it burned violently, a large amount of black matter was produced from within the flames. This matter quickly formed a human shape, eventually solidifying into the form of Wen Zhao.
Wen Zhao leaned against the wall, gasping for breath, his eyes filled with terror. He still hadn’t recovered from his recent death. The memory of Yang An’s sudden palm strike was so vivid it was as if it were still about to land on his face, causing him to feel a splitting headache even now.
"Damn it! How is he so strong?!"
Forcing himself to endure the lingering pain in his body, Wen Zhao couldn’t fathom it. Yang An had clearly just entered the Insect Dao, yet he had killed him with a single palm strike. He hadn’t even had the strength to fight back.
"Something’s wrong! This isn’t right!"
He shook his head frantically, then snapped his head up in terror. Within his senses, he could feel Yang An’s aura rapidly approaching his location.
’Yang An is coming after me!’
If he could sense Yang An, then Yang An could naturally sense him too.
’Does that guy intend to kill me for good, leaving no chance for survival?’
’That brat is so vicious!’
The once high-and-mighty Wen Zhao now felt a bone-deep chill, absolutely horrified. Without a second thought, he instantly transformed into a streak of green light, shot out of the hall, and sped toward the central grand hall of the island.
