He was going to ask the Pavilion Master for help.

Wen Zhao’s hall wasn’t far from the island’s center. Usually, he could get there in the time it took to blink twice.

But now, Wen Zhao felt that even this short distance was impossibly vast. He could sense the aura rapidly closing in on him; it had already stormed onto the Floating Island.

"Who goes there? Stop!"

A thunderous shout echoed across the Floating Island. The Cultivators guarding the island noticed Yang An’s hostile approach and tried to stop him... but failed.

Wen Zhao had reached the front of the Central Hall, but a chill seized his heart. His veins bulged as he realized he probably wouldn’t make it inside in time.

"Pavilion Master, save me!!!"

He shouted toward the Central Hall with every ounce of his strength, his voice breaking with desperation.

Almost before the echoes of his cry faded, a familiar figure appeared high above the hall. His entire body was shrouded in a layer of distorted space, making it impossible to see his face or even determine his gender.

At the sight of this figure, just standing there, boundless hope surged in Wen Zhao’s heart.

But the next instant, his vision was suddenly distorted and fractured by countless rays of light.

Though there was only one person before him, his vision shattered into countless fragments. It was as if that person had also broken into innumerable pieces, which danced across the sky before plunging into darkness.

"No..."

Wen Zhao realized what was happening and tried to scream, but the thought had barely formed before it was gone. In that instant, the last remnants of his consciousness were annihilated. He never even felt the pain.

BANG!

"Stop!"

Thirty Flow’s shout echoed across the Floating Island, but he was a step too late. With an explosive sound, Wen Zhao turned into a sky full of ash right before his eyes, like a flurry of black snow.

Thirty Flow was a step too late. He had just appeared in front of Wen Zhao, but countless motes of ash swept past him. Yang An’s figure had taken Wen Zhao’s place, standing directly before him.

Thirty Flow pointed a finger, aiming straight for Yang An.

With a seemingly ordinary point of his finger, a giant, invisible hand appeared to materialize out of thin air. It squeezed space itself, creating innumerable folds as it tried to firmly grasp Yang An.

But in the next moment, Yang An’s figure simply vanished in a flash of brilliant light, reappearing above the Central Hall—right where Thirty Flow had first appeared.

The invisible hand closed on empty air, but in doing so, it tore a pitch-black, abyss-like hole in midair, as if it had violently ripped a chunk out of the sky’s backdrop.

A flicker of astonishment crossed Thirty Flow’s mind. He quickly locked onto Yang An’s figure. Although his own body was shrouded in distorted space, it couldn’t hide his current rage.

"Yang An! How dare you attack those above you! Why did you kill Wen Zhao?"

Having dodged Thirty Flow’s attack, Yang An’s expression was perfectly calm. To him, killing Wen Zhao was like taking care of some trivial matter.

But before he could answer, several more figures arrived one after another, appearing around the Central Hall.

They were all Internal Affairs Elders of the Golden Thread Pavilion. Elder Zhuan Yu was among them.

In the distance, the Cultivators guarding the Floating Island had also been alerted. They all rushed over, surrounding the Central Hall and leaving no way out.

As Pavilion Master Thirty Flow’s words rang out, the last traces of Wen Zhao’s aura faded away amidst the ash that still lingered in the air.

At this point, even a fool would know what had happened. Everyone stared in shock at Yang An—the culprit the Pavilion Master had just named.

But even the arrival of so many people didn’t cause the slightest ripple in Yang An’s expression.

For he had told Bow Lady just moments ago that on this matter, there was no room for negotiation.

He stared directly at Thirty Flow, the Leader of the Golden Thread Pavilion, a man second only to one.

"He wanted me dead, so I wanted him dead. It’s as simple as that."
