Yang An was confident. He hadn’t rashly killed Wen Zhao in a fit of rage; he knew exactly what he was doing.
First, his current combat strength was already at a point where he didn’t fear the Insect Dao. When faced with such an insufferably annoying buffoon, it was best to swat him like a fly.
Second, Life Crane had told him to join the war, but that wasn’t Life Crane’s true purpose. His real mission was to collect the Three Spiritual Light and save the world.
This meant that he was, at the very least, more important than this group from the Golden Thread Pavilion. At the same time, he was also testing the waters. What seemed like a dominant, crushing execution of Wen Zhao was, in reality, a probe of Life Crane’s tolerance for his actions.
If Life Crane chose to turn a blind eye to this, then nothing anyone else in the Golden Thread Pavilion did would affect him in the slightest.
Life Crane’s attitude was crucial.
But even now, with Wen Zhao’s body obliterated, Life Crane had yet to appear. This was good news for Yang An, indicating that he could completely disregard this group of people.
"What did Elder Wen Zhao do to you?"
Thirty Flow demanded.
He knew that Yang An had once killed a disciple Wen Zhao had coveted for a long time. But the fault hadn’t been with Yang An; it was the result of the other party’s provocation.
That was why Thirty Flow didn’t ask why Wen Zhao wanted to kill Yang An, but what Wen Zhao had *done*.
The others standing by were also puzzled, as they were unaware of the full story.
Only Zhuan Yu, standing in the crowd, was both astonished that Yang An had killed Wen Zhao and also knew the full background.
Not long ago, Wen Zhao had come to see him. He’d had a feeling then that Wen Zhao was going to make a move against Yang An, but he had still chosen not to get involved. He and Yang An were no longer master and disciple; he had no reason to interfere.
But he never expected that would be the last time he saw Wen Zhao, or that Wen Zhao would actually die at Yang An’s hands.
More than the question Thirty Flow was asking, he wanted to know what on earth Yang An had done to gain the power to kill Wen Zhao in such a short amount of time.
He and Wen Zhao were cultivators of the same realm, their combat strengths not far apart. Even if he fought Wen Zhao himself, he wasn’t confident he could kill him.
"If I answer, you could just claim there’s no proof, since the other party is dead. So instead of asking me, why not ask someone else?"
Yang An said this with a calm and unhurried demeanor, his tone even.
Thirty Flow fell silent. Then, with a wave of his hand, several illusory black shadows flew out from his body, speeding away from the Floating Island and vanishing in the blink of an eye.
A silent atmosphere descended over the sky above the Central Hall. Not even a mosquito dared to buzz at this moment; only the sound of the wind could be heard, WHOOSHING.
In no more than ten breaths, the dark shadows swirled back from the distance like a rushing gale, returning to the Central Hall. They retracted into Thirty Flow’s body and tossed a person out.
Yang An recognized the man. He was one of his own subordinates and had been present at Dragonfly Bamboo Peak.
Finding himself on the Floating Island in the blink of an eye, the man looked bewildered. When he saw nearly every major figure in the Golden Thread Pavilion gathered in the sky above the Central Hall, he was instantly scared into trembling uncontrollably.
Thirty Flow wasted no time with words. With a point of his finger, a black shadow immediately enveloped and swallowed the man.
Without needing to be questioned, the man wrapped in shadow immediately recounted everything that had happened, down to the last detail.
No one could see the change in Thirty Flow’s expression, but after hearing the man’s account, the faces of everyone else present turned quite strange. Only Elder Zhuan Yu’s thoughts remained a mystery.
Once he had finished speaking, Thirty Flow gave a casual wave of his hand, and the black shadow whisked the man away.
Only then did the crowd turn to look at Yang An again.
It was true that if they had relied on Yang An’s account, there would have been no way to verify it. But now that Thirty Flow had specifically summoned an eyewitness for interrogation, there could be no doubt about the truth.
If ordering Yang An and his men to attack Dragonfly Bamboo Peak was already asking the impossible, then demanding they continue on to Great Virtue Temple’s Glazed Tower without rest was simply outrageous.
Anyone with eyes could see that Wen Zhao had been trying to send Yang An and his men to their deaths.
It wasn’t just aimed at Yang An; even the others on his battlefront were implicated, all turned into cannon fodder for Wen Zhao’s selfish desires.
If Yang An hadn’t successfully taken Dragonfly Bamboo Peak and even killed an Insect Dao Bodhisattva from Great Virtue Temple, that battlefront would have likely suffered devastating losses.
But even so, in their eyes, Wen Zhao’s crime did not warrant death.
As one of the Golden Thread Pavilion’s Internal Affairs Elders, Wen Zhao’s status was lofty and could not be compared to that of other cultivators.
With Wen Zhao’s death, their side had suffered a major loss. The combat strength of an Insect Dao master was not to be underestimated, and his absence would have a great impact on the situation.
The situation could have been salvaged. If only Yang An hadn’t killed Wen Zhao so quickly, the Pavilion Master could have mediated. Not only could Wen Zhao have been spared, but Yang An could have been placated with an apology and compensation.
That way, Wen Zhao would still be alive, and they would have discovered Yang An, another fighter with Insect Dao Level combat strength. It would have been a great boon for the Golden Thread Pavilion.
But due to a bizarre twist of fate, it was now irreversible.
"Now that the matter is clear, if the Pavilion Master has no other business, then I will take my leave."
Yang An didn’t want to waste any more time. He would rather return to Dragonfly Bamboo Peak and continue his research.
"Wait!"
But just as he turned to leave, Thirty Flow stopped him.
Yang An froze. He sighed internally. ’Looks like this matter won’t be resolved so easily after all.’
