The Great Bodhisattva, on the verge of nirvana, had summoned him, his disciple.
"I am about to pass into silence, and it may be a thousand years before I return. But if one day my Reincarnation Dharma Body comes back, know that it is I who calls for you. When that time comes, you shall once again follow me and resume your cultivation of the Miaofa."
At the time, Hai Xin had been beside himself with grief. The Great Bodhisattva had passed into nirvana, and Hai Shu and the other Bodhisattvas immediately rebelled, shattering the Seal the Great Bodhisattva had laid down. Though they were a step too late to claim the Great Bodhisattva’s physical body, they learned that his Reincarnation Dharma Body would one day return.
Afterward, hopelessly outnumbered, Hai Xin was thrown into the Eternal Prison, where he languished for untold ages.
Now, the Great Bodhisattva’s Dharma Body had finally returned, and he had successfully waited for this moment. At this thought, even Hai Xin, who was now overflowing with demonic energy, felt two streams of hot tears fall from his eyes.
"Hai Shu! Hand over the Great Bodhisattva’s Dharma Body!"
He let out a sudden, furious roar. Countless streams of demonic energy erupted from the ground, thrusting the Lotus Platform that held the Piglet high into the air.
He swore he would snatch the Great Bodhisattva’s Dharma Body back from Hai Shu, leave this place with it, and await the return of Forbidden Calamity to retake control of Great Virtue Temple.
"The Great Bodhisattva’s Dharma Body belongs to Great Virtue Temple. You have long since fallen to demonism and are no longer a Bodhisattva of our temple. Do not dare defile the Dharma Body."
Though Hai Shu remained seated silently on the Lotus Platform, making no move, a mass of twisted matter surged from it, instantly anchoring it in place.
How could he possibly hand the Great Bodhisattva’s Dharma Body over to Hai Xin? This Reincarnation Dharma Body was filled with the Buddha’s Charm of Forbidden Calamity—and not just from a single lifetime, but the accumulation of all that Forbidden Calamity had gathered through endless cycles of rebirth.
Hai Shu had already sacrificed too much to reach the Immortal Platform. Now, only two opportunities remained.
One was that boy, Yang An. His soul was absolutely unlike an ordinary person’s, and he possessed transcendent gifts. He was, in all likelihood, the reincarnation of Buddha himself. If Hai Shu could obtain his soul and glimpse the origin of Buddha, he might have a chance at achieving the Immortal Platform.
Unfortunately, the Insect Paradox was currently besieging Life Crane on the Dragon-locking Plateau, so he couldn’t break away. Meanwhile, the boy was still in the Golden Thread Pavilion.
The second opportunity, however, was Forbidden Calamity’s Reincarnation Dharma Body. The Buddha’s Charm within it could likewise give him a chance to glimpse the origin required to achieve the Immortal Platform.
If he could obtain the Forbidden Calamity Dharma Body, then destroy the Golden Thread Pavilion and capture the boy Yang An, his chances of reaching the Immortal Platform would be greater still.
This was the best, most opportune moment. There was no room for error.
"Get away!"
Seeing Hai Shu seize the Lotus Platform, Hai Xin grew frantic. His figure vanished, kicking up a violent storm of demonic energy, and reappeared in front of the platform, his hand shooting out to grab it.
At the same time, the countless Black Pupils in his eyes began to tremble rapidly. An invisible aura of the Power of Rules erupted. The twisted matter coiling around the Lotus Platform shattered inch by inch as the force shot straight toward Hai Shu.
"You dare!"
Seeing Hai Xin about to take the Lotus Platform again, Hai Shu’s body suddenly swelled. His form expanded rapidly like scalding sludge, instantly filling the entire Ten Thousand Buddha Hall and even crushing the Golden Buddha Statues behind him to dust.
In the face of Hai Xin’s Power of Rules, human faces emerged one by one upon Hai Shu’s twisted form, all of them glaring with fury.
But just then, cracks suddenly spiderwebbed across the surface of Hai Shu’s body. It seemed to have expanded too much, his very flesh splitting apart.
Copious amounts of black blood gushed from the fissures. Even the faces on his body began to bleed from all their orifices.
The invisible Power of Rules struck Hai Shu. At that same moment, it seemed Hai Shu suffered some kind of internal mishap; more than half of his body abruptly disintegrated into dust, and his remaining torso was thrown back, smashing a massive hole in the wall of the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall.
Hai Xin seized the opportunity to grab the Lotus Platform. He shattered it with a single palm strike, seized the Piglet with both hands, and prepared to fly out of the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall.
Yang An, who had already retreated to the entrance of the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall, watched the scene unfold in silence. The two combatants had completely ignored him. In the blink of an eye, Hai Xin had gained the upper hand and actually managed to beat back Hai Shu, which genuinely surprised Yang An.
’If Hai Xin can get away on his own without me having to expose my identity, that would be for the best,’ he thought. ’But given that this Hai Shu fellow is every bit as insidious as Life Crane, and considering his current bizarre state, I’m afraid it might be a trap. I’d better keep watching. I need to see more from Hai Shu, to be sure of things before I make a move.’
BOOM!
Just as Hai Xin was leaving the collapsing Ten Thousand Buddha Hall, he casually threw a palm strike at Yang An. Apparently, the man wanted to kill anyone he saw who belonged to Great Virtue Temple.
In a moment no one was watching, Yang An dodged it quietly and with ease, exiting the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall himself.
Hai Xin, carrying the Piglet, was about to fly away, but at that moment, the entire Great Virtue Temple shuddered. The ground let out a muffled tremor, and Hai Xin’s figure froze in mid-air.
Countless chains formed of Buddhist Mantras had appeared on his body. The chains were ethereal, binding his entire form and stretching all the way back to the ground deep beneath the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall.
The chains’ appearance prevented Hai Xin from flying any farther. ’I didn’t expect this trick.’
Though he had escaped the Eternal Prison, the Seal was still upon him.
A figure shot in from the distance like a sharp arrow.
It was the battered and exhausted Hai Si. Wreathed in a massive black shadow, he shot toward Hai Xin like a sharp spike.
