Gavriel met her gaze. "I cannot say for certain. But as my wife, your standing rises above the nobles."

"That’s not what I meant." She pursed her lips, genuinely curious about what level of demon she might be based on her powers.

After a moment of thought, she asked, "So... do you think I’m a new soul, or... do I have a past life in which I was already one?"

Gavriel released another sigh. "That is another mystery I don’t have an answer to, Ana. The souls of demons and celestial beings are never known to be born in a realm other than their own. It is forbidden for a demonic or divine soul to be born into the human realm. When such an anomaly occurs, it is always for a far greater purpose."

Shock flickered in Aliana’s eyes as she murmured, "So... are you saying I was never supposed to be born in the human world?"

"That is how it has been for centuries," Gavriel admitted with a quiet nod.

Suddenly, another realisation struck her. Her father’s voice echoed in her mind, repeating his words about the Vanderbilt curse.

"A greater purpose..." Aliana gasped, her eyes widening. "That woman... she said something just like that!"

Gavriel frowned. "What woman?"

"Right... we haven’t had the chance to talk about what I learned from my father regarding Vanderbilt history."

Aliana quickly recounted everything her father had revealed about their bloodline, the family curse, and the mysterious woman who had made the prophecy.

"The mysterious woman said the daughter would be destined for something far greater than simply carrying on the family name," Aliana explained. "She said she would be the only one capable of breaking the curse that had bound our bloodline for generations, freeing them from the pact that demanded their blood."

Gavriel remained silent, carefully processing every word. The pieces of the puzzle were rapidly clicking into place in his mind.

Finally, he looked at her and asked softly, "So... is that why you offered your blood during the ritual that summoned me?"

Aliana gave him a slow nod.

"Who do you think she was?" Aliana asked softly. "The woman who revealed all of this to my ancestors?"

"It could have been any number of beings, Ana. A powerful witch, a dark seer, a demoness... someone... who knew about your soul," Gavriel replied, his brow furrowing in deep thought.

Aliana looked down at his chest and placed her hand against it as she asked, "Do you... know how to break the curse, then?"

Gavriel considered her question carefully before answering. "A bargain struck with the devil cannot be undone so easily, Ana. Every contract is bound to the laws of nature itself. If it were that simple, then every greedy mortal would claim whatever their heart’s desire without ever paying the ultimate price."

Aliana looked up at him, a flicker of deep disappointment in her eyes. "So what does that mean? Will I not be able to free my family?"

"I did not say that." His gaze softened. "The seer specifically stated that the curse would be lifted by you, the sole female heir. I can only deduce that the key lies in your unique powers... the rare ability to command and release souls."

Aliana blinked, taking in his words. "Oh... I see. What do I have to do?"

Without a word, Gavriel closed his eyes. Aliana felt a sudden surge of raw, ancient power radiate from his body. When his eyelids lifted, his irises were burning fiery red. He raised his hand, and dark crimson, wisp-like tendrils began to dance across his open palm, weaving together.

Aliana stared at the delicate, pulsing red threads intertwining over his open hand and whispered in awe, "What is this?"

"This is the physical manifestation of your family’s pact, held within my grasp," Gavriel revealed, holding her gaze. "Now... reach out with your power, and try to break it free from me."

Back inside Cillian’s mansion...

Neither Jade nor Cillian knew what possessed them the second their lips clashed.

The kiss was a wild, reckless collision of tongues and harsh breath that ignited such intense heat, it felt as though they were burning alive.

Jade tangled her fingers into his silky dark hair, pulling him down harder, while Cillian’s hands gripped her waist, his fingers digging into her skin as he tilted her head to devour her mouth deeply.

He then drove her backwards through the open doorway, their tangled bodies moving until the back of Jade’s knees hit the edge of the mattress. Before he could push her down, her hands slid from his hair to his chest, grabbing his dress shirt and yanking it apart with enough force to send buttons flying across the floor.

Cillian let out a low growl against her lips.

His hand reached for her dress zipper, dragging it down in one swift, ruthless pull. The black silk parted and pooled at her feet. Wrapping his arms around her thighs, he hoisted her up and threw her back onto the mattress and pinned her beneath his gaze.

He stood over her, his dark eyes taking in every inch of her lush, breathtaking curves as she lay flushed, her chest heaving, clad in nothing but sheer, lacy black lingerie.

Neither of them broke eye contact as Cillian shucked off his white suit jacket, then tore away his shirt completely, exposing his broad shoulders and rock-hard torso. The possessive hunger in his eyes sent a wave of heat pooling straight between her thighs.

Boldly, Jade lifted her leg, dragging the smooth curve of her foot up his rock-hard abs, letting her toes graze the line of the dip where his low-rise trousers met his hipbone.

"What are you waiting for?" she purred, her voice dripping with invitation.

Cillian’s hand shot out, capturing her ankle in a tight, bruising grip right before her toes could slide past the waistband of his white trousers. His thumb stroked the soft skin of her inner ankle as his voice dropped to a low command. "Strip for me, Red."

Jade raised a brow, completely unbothered by his command. "You first."

Yanking her leg free from his grip, she arched her back, propping herself up on her elbows with feline grace. She held his burning gaze and added seductively, "Earn it, demon."

A devious smile curled the corner of Cillian’s mouth at her bold taunt.

Without an ounce of hesitation, Cillian brought his hands to his belt. With a smooth, metallic click, he undid the buckle and let his trousers fall to the floor, leaving him clad only in his dark briefs.

Jade’s sultry green eyes slowly raked over his sculpted body until they dipped lower to pause at the long, prominent shape straining against his briefs, causing a sharp gasp to escape her lips.

Cillian took a deliberate step closer to the bed, hovering over her with a dangerous glint in his eyes. "Now it’s your turn," he said. "Unless you want me to make you regret taunting a demon."
