Khan sighed. "You’re right, I can already hear that annoying noise." He nodded and put the meat away. "Isn’t the cargo illegal in any way?" he asked bluntly.

"It’s a shipment from the Church."

Khan frowned... "Why is it passing through here? There’s no route..." He was about to say there wasn’t one, but he fell silent...

Commander Carl and his friends looked over their shoulders toward the fortress walls. They sensed the movement of some beasts preparing to attack.

Powerful beasts. Minimum Rank C.

Most are Rank B.

Fortunately, there weren’t any Rank A beasts, but it wasn’t impossible for one to appear.

Among the beasts that appeared, one was brutally dangerous: a wyvern, a close relative of dragons. In this region, they aren’t that hard to spot. You’d occasionally see one soaring through the skies if you spent a day here. But they don’t tend to come out at night unless it’s strictly necessary.

And if one was wandering around there, others would be nearby. Wyverns are known as "Wolves of the Sky" for a reason—they always travel in packs. And not seeing the pack is worse than seeing it...

Seconds after these beasts appeared near the walled fortress, a deafening roar reached his ears. It was powerful and shook the nearby trees. It wasn’t yet in sight because of the thick fog, but that roar was enough to know it would arrive soon.

Khan drew his sword.

Carl drew his spear.

The other 11 hunters drew their weapons and activated their Talents before racing toward the top of the wall. Some jumped, others ran... But the unleashed power forced Zaid and Alice to step back.

"Watch closely, kids," Martin laughed. "This is the real danger of taking to the skies in this day and age. The beasts are so dangerous that it often takes dozens of hunters just to take one down from above. Today we’re lucky."

At the front, Carl made the first move. A powerful Rank A ability erupted in all directions...

"And that’s the Kingdom’s youngest Rank A, Carl Magnus," Martin introduced him.

"The youngest Rank A? If I’m not mistaken, he belongs to Celestial Lance..."

Martin confirmed it. "Actually, he’s my senior. But we don’t belong to the same faction, so we don’t get along very well."

Undoubtedly, he would reach Rank S in the future; he achieved this feat a full year before Zayn Zachary, Zaid’s older brother.

Carl Magnus’s spear transformed into a powerful fire dragon that struck the crown of one of the trees from a considerable distance. His body began to fall off the wall, but he used the wall’s momentum to leap toward that tree crown, where the fire dragon proceeded to explode.

A Rank C beast fell to the ground; the fire dragon continued on to the next tree, and right behind it, Carl swung from the treetop scorched by the fire dragon and leaped further toward the beasts.

His allies were not far behind. Most of them leaped into the forest, and their bodies were enveloped in a powerful energy that shook the very foundations of the trees.

Khan attacked from the wall, alongside two others. Khan’s attacks could be launched from a distance, even though he was a swordsman. Beams of light shot from his sword, striking distant beasts. Although he wasn’t a Rank A, his power was impressive.

The beasts plummeted to the ground, and those that had been hiding immediately came out to fight.

The bright moon above them and the light fog hovering over the walled fortress soon revealed a massive metallic monster.

It was the largest airplane Zaid had ever seen in his life. Colossal in size, it almost looked like a dragon. Its surface was armored with such high-grade armor that it was difficult for anything to penetrate it.

Smaller planes flew around it to protect it; all the pilots were powerful Awakened ones.

The monstrous plane was camouflaged, but the small planes flew flags of Holy Island, the seat of the Holy See of the Holy Loyalty Church. The distinctive white and gold colors, with a holy land in the center and a light descending from the sky, represented Holy Island.

These small planes joined the 13 hunters to slay dangerous beasts... That was when the Wyvern appeared.

Everyone had sensed it, but no one had seen it. It flew over the treetops, flapping its wings and spreading them wide as it reached the top.

That majestic figure, larger than small planes, let out a deadly roar that shook the surrounding area.

It was the howl summoning his clan.

"Tsk, that bastard did it too fast," Khan grumbled. He knew he couldn’t linger any longer on the wall. "Protect the city—I’m on a mission, and I have to protect my people."

"Don’t worry, Lord Khan," replied the two men accompanying him. "Do what you have to do."

Immediately, Khan ran through the treetops and approached the strike force, consisting of 12 hunters—not counting him—and 14 light aircraft carrying hunters.

"Well, if you don’t want to see blood, it would be a good idea for you to go to sleep," Martin said suddenly.

Zaid ignored him. "Do you think some of them will die?"

"Some always die."

Zaid frowned... Being a hunter was dangerous. At any moment, you had to put yourself in mortal danger.

Zaid smiled instinctively...

Why did that excite him? Maybe he was going crazy...

Although there was no sign of that madness in his eyes...

"Do you think we can get closer?" Zaid asked, strangely curious.

Martin turned to look at him in shock. "Get closer? Do you want to die, kid?"

"I don’t think I want to die," Zaid joked.

"Then don’t even think about getting closer!" Martin exclaimed. "Do you know how dangerous a Rank B beast is? It could kill you with a single scratch. And if there’s an A-Rank one, it would kill you with a single breath!"

"I know that very well," Zaid replied. "But I think approaching from below wouldn’t be a bad idea, right? Through the forest."

"That’s even worse!" Martin couldn’t believe what he was hearing...

If getting close to the wall could kill them as it was—in fact, just being out here watching the battle was already dangerous—how dangerous would it be to approach a forest full of those kinds of beasts?

This guy was losing his mind... Martin couldn’t help but wonder if the battle with the orcs had affected his sanity...

But Zaid had his reasons.

"About two Rank B beasts and around 15 Rank C beasts have died... If I do the math, I could get up to 25,000 ME from that..."

That was enough to buy a couple of Rank C Talents and even two Rank D ones.

It was too lucrative to pass up going there.

But he also understood just how dangerous it was.

’...’

He wondered if he should slip away, but after a few seconds, he dismissed the idea.

As a Rank F, any ability cast by a Rank C or B beast could wipe him off the face of the earth. It wasn’t feasible to go near that place.

It was tempting... but he’d get more ME by staying alive than by dying.

So he decided against it and just watched.

The battle was unfolding right in front of them.

Khan rushed to the front lines at the wyvern’s cry; several wyverns followed him. The gigantic wyvern couldn’t stop, but it wasn’t going too fast either.

The sound still deafened the walled fortress and its surroundings.

Even those who were asleep were awakened.

But the battle on the front lines was too intense. At the wyvern’s call, seven more wyverns shot out from different parts of the forest and closed in on the enormous plane.

To them, that monstrous plane was just some gigantic beast trying to invade their territory. They had to protect themselves.

If it had been a dragon, they would have backed off. But since it wasn’t, they attacked.

And faced with the colossal power of a pack of wyverns, the pilots of the small planes stepped forward to confront them.

Behind them, Carl, Khan, and the rest attacked with unyielding force.

Attacks flew back and forth. The wyverns’ powerful defenses were too difficult to overcome, but faced with attacks from so many powerful hunters, they began to fall.

Carl launched a powerful fire dragon into the air, which then plummeted toward a pair of wyverns that had stayed together from the start. At the same time, he created several serpents that moved in a straight line, trying to hold them back by grabbing their legs...

Khan had to get closer to fight more effectively...

In the sky, the battle that unfolded made Zaid blink more than once. He believed what he was seeing, but at the same time found it hard to believe.

The hunters weren’t flying, but they spent most of the battle in the sky, fighting beasts that could fly naturally.

It was an extraordinarily comprehensive lesson on how to fight in the air, managing to stay aloft through the sheer power of their skills alone.

Such a fierce battle came to an end when the eight Rank B wyverns were killed, but they still took two light aircraft pilots with them.

However, once they were dead, none of the beasts dared to attack the plane again. They would be safe for a wide radius, even though they weren’t far from reaching their destination.

Khan, Carl, and the others returned to the fortress shortly afterward... They were injured. But they didn’t come alone.

They brought a huge body with them!
