The F-Ranks, who had been startled awake by the thunderous sound of the plane, took several steps back as the enormous body fell in front of them.

The wings were enormous, larger than its body. They were bony and glowed with a beautiful sapphire blue hue, which adorned the bones and made them fluorescent. One of the wings had been severed halfway through by an attack, but it was still in very good condition because the attack that killed it was a spear thrust to the head that shattered its skull.

Its tail was enormous and tapered to a point; even though it was dead, just seeing its hideous face sent a chill down your spine.

Even the D and C Ranks swallowed hard... it was the first time they’d seen such a huge beast up close.

Martin was the first to speak. "Will you sell it to me?" he asked, then ran quickly over to the wyvern to get a closer look. He touched it carefully, without a hint of fear... especially the fluorescent bones in its wings. They were treasures.

"Do the Lawrences have that much money these days?" Carl asked, landing gracefully beside the wyvern.

"What’s the matter? Do you think only the Magnuses have money these days?" Martin laughed and patted the wyvern a few times. "Just name your price. I’ll need better armor when I reach Rank B, so I’m on the lookout for some good gear."

"Tsk, kid, you’re still a long way from Rank B and you’re already thinking about the armor you’ll wear." Carl shook his head. "It’s not for sale. We Magnuses have younger generations who need these things, too."

Martin grimaced. "Shouldn’t you ask your friends that? You didn’t kill it alone."

"I just need to give them their share, right? Don’t push it—I’m not selling it to you. Why don’t you go find the others? There are seven of them out there."

"You bastard! And take on the Scavengers? You’re crazy!"

"Hahahaha, then look for it somewhere else." Carl raised his eyebrows slightly when he saw that someone else, besides Martin, was checking out the wyvern.

A young man of Rank F was moving around the wyvern, carefully observing everything. He tried to lift the wings to look underneath, but... he couldn’t. It was too heavy.

Carl frowned as he strained to get a closer look at the beast.

"Kid, aren’t you afraid that thing will get up and kill you?" Carl asked, puzzled.

Zaid looked up. "It’s dead, isn’t it? It won’t get up."

Martin noticed Gio at that moment, as did Khan and the rest.

"G-Gio? I didn’t think you were that brave," Martin said in surprise.

Zaid just laughed...

Brave might not have been the right word; he was simply greedy and knew it was dead.

As soon as he saw that magnificent corpse arrive, he couldn’t help but think of the fortune he’d make if he’d just go over and touch it... And he went over and touched it.

And he made a fortune!

Now he was just curiously staring at this enormous beast.

And everyone looked at him, since he was the only one from the lower ranks—except for Martin—who had approached it. Without any fear and without even bothering to ask first.

However, as he did so...

[The Scavenger is hungry...]

[The Scavenger is hungry...]

[The Scavenger is hungry...]

Wherever he ran his hand over the Wyvern’s body, that system message kept repeating. He frowned.

’What is this?’

He had never seen it before.

As discreetly as possible, he tapped the system message that kept repeating.

[The Scavenger is hungry...]

[The Scavenger has found prey to eat.]

[Do you wish to feed the ’Scavenger’ with the Rank-B Wyvern?]

[Yes.] [No.]

Zaid quickly pulled his hand back...

"Be careful. Wyvern scales can cut, and sometimes their cuts are poisonous," Martin said from the side.

At some point, that guy had approached him without Zaid noticing—probably while he was looking at those system messages.

"Are you interested?" Martin asked with a smile, ignoring Zaid’s reaction.

Zaid was too preoccupied to respond.

Could he feed his Rank C Talent?

What effects would that have?

Would it rise in rank? Would it become stronger? What changes would it bring? Why hadn’t it appeared before?

’It’s because of the beast’s level...’ he realized.

Suddenly, there were too many questions swirling in his mind, and the unanswered ones were nagging at him. He was tempted to click the "Yes" button, but in the end, he pulled his hand back.

This beast didn’t belong to him... he hadn’t even killed it. It belonged to a powerful man, an A-Rank. And to Carl Magnus, one of the top A-Ranks.

He couldn’t risk stealing his beast.

Gulp! He swallowed hard and looked at Martin, who was also curious.

"Martin, how much do you think a Wyvern goes for on the market right now?"

"Dead?"

Zaid nodded.

"Hmm. I don’t think the problem is the money, but rather getting one and its rank," Martin replied. "A Rank C one might cost about 10 million dollars, maybe more. They’re actually not that expensive at that rank."

"And a Rank B?"

Martin smiled. "That’s where things change. At least 50 million. I’ve seen corpses that can sell for as much as 200 million."

’50 million... I’m way off.’

Even though he’d stolen 6 million dollars and had 2 million left after spending 4 million on various important things, he was still way off.

In the mercenary guild, Rank F missions barely pay a few hundred or a few thousand dollars. A Rank E mercenary easily earns thousands of dollars per mission, but not many can take on missions back-to-back.

So often, a Rank E mercenary doesn’t earn much.

The closest he could get to that amount of money was to reach Rank C: missions at that level pay a lot—for example, this mission for Martin must be paying him several million dollars. Or he could sign a contract with a guild.

’Even so, there aren’t many guilds that would want an F-Rank. Should I show off my talents?’

He dismissed that thought almost immediately. He knew he wasn’t like other Awakened ones.

First, he had a family that could wipe him off the face of the earth in a matter of seconds if he revealed that he could become strong. The fact that they hadn’t moved to find out yet was strange enough to him, but it didn’t mean they wouldn’t act eventually.

In emergency situations, the Zacharys are dangerous.

On the other hand, he has the potential for extraordinary growth. Most people rely on a single Talent to grow, but if he’s patient, he’ll soon be able to develop three different Talents—and those could be Rank C, Rank B if he’s very patient, or even higher!

Furthermore, he had the advantage of being able to switch between Talents, which meant he didn’t have a permanent Talent; he simply chose Talents as needed.

He had many advantages he could take advantage of while he grew and became strong enough that the Zacharys wouldn’t be able to do anything to him. And that would take a long time, because his father must be close to reaching SS Rank... By then, he’ll be such a deadly colossus that he’d wipe out A-Rankers with one hand.

He was tied up.

’Should I take this opportunity to hop on a plane and leave the country?’

’Maybe abroad I can join a guild and make millions. I heard that in the big countries, those with C-Rank talents can earn tens of millions a month.’

Anything to get my hands on some B-Rank beasts...

’I have the money to do it, but I don’t know how the Academy will react. Its rules don’t allow for exchanges between countries.’

That opened up a new possibility for him: trying to finish the Academy as soon as possible.

’I know there’s a way, and it’s by completing the difficult missions assigned by the academy to prove that I’m qualified to be a Hunter. I think I can take them on. If I’m not mistaken, these guys are on their first mission related to that, and they’re doing terribly.’ Zaid looked at the F-Ranks who had come from the academy.

It seemed he’d found a method. Well, the other one was right next to him.

Martin—hadn’t he invited him to join his guild?

’I’ll see how the missions go first, and then I’ll decide,’ he decided.

"Speaking of which..." He spoke up again. "What would be the cheapest Rank B beast?"

"There’s no single answer to that. But you can get Rank B corpses for a few hundred thousand. It depends on the degree of decomposition in that case. If you’re talking about fresh corpses, it would be about 1 million."

"Wow, they’re pretty expensive," Zaid exclaimed to hide his disappointment.

The cheapest ones gave him hope, but when he heard "degree of decomposition," he knew they were referring to old beasts... those were no use to him.

After all, the rule was clear: only corpses that had been dead for an hour or less were useful for his talent.

For now, he was content with his more than 7,000 ME and withdrew his hand from the Wyvern before retiring to sleep.

That night, he couldn’t sleep.

He had more than 7,000 ME in his Shop, ready to grant him more than 70 stat points or several Rank D Talents.

He needs less than 3,000 ME to buy a Rank C Talent; if he were to get one from the Soul, he’d level up twice as fast!

He earned 10 PE for each beast thanks to his Rank C Soul Talent, but he can have up to three of those, each processing the same amount of PE from the same corpse.

’I have to do something soon.’

He remembered that some dead beasts had fallen near the wall... Should he go check it out?
