In another part of the pocket realm, Ivis raced through the terrain, before eventually stopping when he met his target.
"I’ll only say this once, human. Will you willingly let me tag you, or do you intend to die?" Ivis asked coldly. He was already extremely annoyed since he heard two participants were already at the Zeta rank. Not even his own breakthrough to said rank alleviated his annoyance because the two would have, no, had already broken through to the Zeta+ rank.
The foolish human actually took his words for granted and attempted to create some third grade illusion to confuse him, not knowing he could still sense her body of mass even though his eyes had been fooled.
"Death it is then." Ivis muttered and disappeared from his spot, the air and the earth detonating as a testament to his speed. Within a moment, his rapier reached for the girl, among to divide her in two.
However, Ivis was forced to abandon his attack and blur backwards as a maelstrom of golden weapons cut through the space he had been in not a moment earlier, in an attempt to protect the girl.
"Who?" Ivis raised his head asking, and came in contact with two pools of gold. It was a young human, his aura so bright it almost hurt to look at, and with his bright smile, he looked like benevolence given form.
Alistair Von Drake had arrived to the rescue.
"Are you alright, Elsa?" Alistair asked the white haired girl who was still shaken at having seen death in the eye a few moments ago.
"Yes, I am fine." She smiled wryly. "You rescued me once again, like always."
Elsa had only managed to survive the first phase due to a special artifact, but during the second phase, Alistair was the one who had helped her secure a sphere, and with it, she finally broke through to the Theta+ rank.
And in this third phase, Alistair had saved her once again.
"Are you done with your lovers moment, human?" Ivis asked, yet didn’t particularly wait for an answer. "If you’re done, you might as well hand her over."
Before the echoes of Ivis’ voice had even faded, Alistair suddenly felt his body double in mass. The gravity that was pulling him towards the ground heavier than ever, and his movement lagged behind his perception.
Alistair couldn’t even properly react to Ivis’ rapier which was inching closer and closer to him even though he had his initial ability active, boosting his variable stats one rank higher each.
But in the final moment, a golden construct flared and materialized around Alistair’s body in the shape of a sphere, making Ivis’ rapier hit it, before he blurred backwards.
Almost immediately, Alistair adjusted to the doubled mass. He had only been rendered powerless because he had been caught off guard by Ivis’ ability. Even though Alistair already knew his ability, having not experienced it before, it still caught him off guard.
The golden construct around Alistair dissolved as he summoned his spear, and the two locked eyes. The air screamed and detonated as the two launched at each other at subsonic speeds.
Rapier clashed against spear in a world ending clash. A earth shattering shockwave exploded outward, uprooting trees from their roots and simultaneously caving the ground beneath their feet for dozens of meters.
They thrusted and slashed at each other like maniacs, not caring what their battle did to their surroundings at all. Each attack flowed into the next like water. Both were geniuses hailed amongst their races, and this small battle showed why they were above others.
From the distance, Elsa had stopped seeing them both the moment they began moving. Hell she didn’t even see their afterimages, the only thing she saw was the aftereffects of their clash.
A tsunamis of golden construct weapons chased after Ivis relentlessly, but he moved through the gaps between the maelstrom with the grace of a dancer. Every weapon was slipped past, and those he couldn’t, his rapier took care of.
Ivis then counterattacked with blades of light sent from his rapier with uncanny efficiency, each one that Alistair dodged, utterly annihilating everything behind him.
Alistaie slowly started finding himself enjoying this as a smile appeared on his face. Maybe this was where he could truly go all out with all disregard for everything. He usually couldn’t do that during sparring. Ivis however, was having different thoughts entirely.
As they continued fighting, Ivis realized, to his frustration, that he couldn’t defeat Alistair fast enough to go get that little bitch before the ten minutes time frame was over, so he searched for an opening, an opening that would let him ditch Alistair and go tag the bitch.
And soon, he got it. As Alistair pierced his spear towards Ivis’ neck, the elven prince parried the spear with agile grace, and before Alistair could react, his already doubled mass doubled once again.
Alistair’s steps faltered, his spear almost falling to the ground, and Ivis used that. His leg snapped up, delivering a brutal uppercut to the young Drake, sending him flying in the other direction.
Ivis, without hesitation, decreased the mass of his body for lightness, and basically blipped towards Elsa. His hand was already on her shoulder before the shockwave left in his wake finally exploded like the sound of furious thunder.
Alistair also soon reappeared next to Elsa and Ivis, but the Ivis there was merely an afterimage.
Elsa meanwhile, was far from okay. Her entire shoulder which Ivis had tapped, was completely mangled. Blood flowed under the whimper of the white haired girl, and dyed her dress a brilliant red.
"I’m sorry." Alistair whispered in regret, his head hung low. If he hadn’t gotten carried away with battle lust, Ivis wouldn’t have gotten the chance to tag Elsa, let alone injure her this bad.
"It’s okay, I’ll be fine." Elsa tried to sound okay, but the whimper on her pale face said otherwise.
Not wasting another second, Alistair quickly took out a special healing potion, and fed it to Elsa. Within moments, Elsa’s mangled shoulder began to rapidly heal before the naked eye.
"Thank you." Elsa smiled, now feeling a lot better. "But it seems I wouldn’t be able to pass this round."
Alistair frowned slightly, knowing it was true. Unlike Alistair who hadn’t gotten tagged, and had in fact tagged his target before getting here, Elsa hadn’t tagged her target, but had instead gotten tagged.
And this was only the first round. It didn’t a genius to know that Elsa was not making it to the next round.
"Promise me." Elsa said. "Promise me you’d win the convergence."
Alistair stared at her for a moment, before a smile bloomed across his face. "I promise you." he vowed.
----------
Outside, the spectators watching were awed by what had transpired between Ivis, Alistair, and Elsa.
The human were emotional, especially about the heartfelt conversation that went on between Alistair and Elsa.
"Aww, they’re so good together, is she his girlfriend?"
"You don’t know? I’m in the same class with them. They’ve been together since day one of the Astral Mystic Institute."
"Huh? And since when did you know? Last I recalled, you never qualified for the Astral Mystic Institute."
While the humans were saying their heartfelt admiration, the other races were booing then down, especially the elves.
"Booo, the hell do they think this is, a drama?"
"They must think so, going all lovey dovey before the entire world."
"They should probably go get a career in acting rather than come here to represent their race."
"How shameless, if I were them, I wouldn’t be able to show my face again."
------------
While many opinions were going around, somewhere in the pocket realm, wings made of feathers as black as night flapped powerfully on Isolde’s back as she flew through the air.
Unlike before when she could only summon one beast at a time and use its ability, after breaking through to the Zeta- rank, Isolde had gotten a stronger ability that complemented her initial ability.
Now, Isolde could summon multiple beasts at once, all nine of she wanted. Not only that, she could also perform a partial summon, like she was doing currently. The wings of her raven were on her back.
Isolde was currently chasing after her target. Some stupid human with an annoying mouth. She couldn’t believe the bastard was trying to talk her into a date while she chased after him, trying to tag him.
"You know, I’m just saying. I’d rather both of us just leave this competition and go for a date somewhere, don’t you think?" The human called down from below while still running away from her.
"Shut the... up." Isolde quickly corrected herself before she could curse. It wouldn’t do well for her to curse before the entire world as a princess of the Demon Empire.
"Then we could choose a place to go, your place or mine, I don’t mind. I bet we’ll have a good time."
"I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU!"
