Chapter 230: ...Hurt so much

‎At another place in the pocket realm, a young demon stared at the human woman in front of him who was his target.

‎But for some reason, he felt hesitant to tag her. That was because the woman had a charm ability, and was bewitching him, or so he thought.

‎The woman was extremely beautiful, so much that the young demon felt it was impossible for anyone to be objectively more beautiful than she was.

‎That was how he came to the conclusion that it was not just beauty. The more he looked at her, the more perfect she became, this kind of otherworldly beauty wasn’t possible. She must have been casting a bewitching spell on him.

‎While the young demon was unable to move, the woman smiled.

‎"Since you’re not going to make a move to tag me, I might as well leave." She began turning.

‎However, the young demon seemed to regain his senses at that time.

‎"Cease your actions, witch! Release me from whatever charm you’ve casted on me." He growled.

‎The woman’s smile grew brighter. "I can’t help but say, I’m flattered. But let me break it to you, my looks have nothing to do with my ability."

‎"Lying witch!" The demon growled, his hands transmitting into sharp blades. He launched towards the woman at full speed, appearing before her in an instant.

‎Unknown to him however, he was only moving that fast from his perspective. From the eye of an observer, the demon was simply moving too slow to put a threat to the woman’s life.

‎Anastasia’s range of using her initial ability had increased significantly with her ranking up. At the Eta+ rank, she could only cover two meters or so. But at the moment, her ability could cover a whooping thirty meters. Plus for someone who could see the future, the demon’s charge at her hadn’t been a surprise.

‎So, the demon never even began to pose a threat at her. If there was anything she felt, it was amusement. Amusement at the fact that he seemed to think she had placed a charm on him.

‎Anastasia sidestepped the slow demon with effortless ease, and gave him a precise chop to the neck.

‎"You can come out now, Namor." Anastasia turned to the side as the young demon fell to the ground, unconscious.

‎"Didn’t think the great Anastasia would be accused of casting a charm." Namor seemingly appeared from behind some bushes with a broad grin.

‎"You didn’t think I wouldn’t sense you, did you, Namor?" Anastasia tilted her head with a smile.

‎"I’d be foolish to think that, Sia." Namor shook his head.

‎"He’s your target I take it?" Anastasia asked.

‎"Sadly, yes." Namor nodded. "I wish it was you though, things would have been a lot more interesting."

‎"Be careful what you wish for, Namor. If I was your target, I can assure you, you’d be losing a life." Anastasia smiled.

‎"I guess we’ll only see if the time ever comes." Namor said as he moved towards the unconscious demon. With a simple tap on his shoulder, Namor had tagged his target.

‎The two then kept talking until half a minute later, when the round ended.

‎"THE FIRST ROUND IS OVER, AND TO MAKE THINGS FAIR, YOU ALL WILL BE TELEPORTED TO DIFFERENT PLACES AT RANDOM. IT WOULDN’T DO FOR EVERYONE TO KEEP ENCOUNTERING THE SAME TAGGER OR TARGET OVER AGAIN, NOW WILL IT?"

‎The moment the voice finished, a while light enveloped everyone transported to different places. Almost immediately, two projections appeared before their eyes once.

‎The same was the case for Damon. However, Damon’s case this time was a little complicated.

‎"Aiiiiish, you’ve got to be kidding me." He cursed out loud. Most spectators watching him thought it was because of the difficulty and strength of the target assigned to him, but they couldn’t be more wrong.

‎Instead, it was because the person was none other than the person Damon knew better than anyone in his world. His own sister and twin, Rose Darkfell.

‎’Which bastard made this match up?’ Damon cursed. ’I’ll be sure to flay them alive when I get my hands on them."

‎If there was anyone who could figure out he was Damon in disguise it was Rose. While he had risked approaching her during the banquet, it was to determine whether she could sense anything wrong.

‎And Damon in fact, knew that Rose did sense something wrong, even Sia had suspected something. The only reason Rose didn’t act on it was because she probably had absolute belief in his death, due to his life lantern going off.

‎If he were to approach her again, she might sense him out. And though Damon didn’t dare admit it, another reason he didn’t want to approach her was that he couldn’t go tag his sister, now could he?

‎What if he tagged her now, and she got paired with someone like Kaal next? And what would happen in the event that she fails to tag someone in the next round or the next after that?

‎Rose would be out of the competition, and that was something Damon didn’t want to see. And so, the unruly prince stayed his hand, and didn’t even try to find Rose, let alone move to tag her.

‎----------------

‎Meanwhile, a few kilometers away, the images of her target and her tagger were shown to her.

‎At first glance, she recognized her tagger. It was the same bastard who had the guts to ask her for a dance, then immediately shifted to Anastasia after Rose rejected him.

‎However, she noticed that the bastard wasn’t making any progress in finding her. Hell, he wasn’t even moving from his spot.

‎After a few moments of deliberation, Rose decided to head in his direction. Coincidentally, Rose’s target happened to be in that direction.

‎Rose moved immediately, the ground beneath her feet melting into lava. Flames cladded her form, especially her feet. The power of flames propelling her at speeds beyond reason.

‎Rose had grown considerably stronger since the competition began, and most especially since she broke through to the Zeta- rank earlier today.

‎She had gotten an ability that perfectly complemented her initial ability of she does say so herself. More than ever now, Rose felt she could go all out without worrying about the consequences.

‎----------------

‎This new ability that enabled her flames to heal herself and even others, was the source of her confidence.

‎A short cruise over the land later, Rose stopped before an elven woman.

‎"You." the elf said, scrutinizing Rose. "You must be my tagger."

‎"That is besides the point. You have my image, so you not?" Rose said as a statement rather than a question.

‎A bow that looked so regal one wouldn’t mistake it for a low end artifact appeared in the elf’s hand.

‎Alas, before the elf could even draw her bow, Rose answered with a compacted fire pillar to the elf’s face. The elf blurred backwards almost instantly.

‎But Rose’s figure tore through the flames, chasing after the desperate elf who ran across the terrain trying to find a single moment of respite to draw her bow, but was never given the chance by Rose.

‎As the elf stomped on the ground, the ground in a hundred meters radius softened, turning into a quagmire, trying to entrench Rose’s leg in their depths, but blast of concentrated flames later, the ground turned to obsidian.

‎But the elf did not just give up. Twndeild of earth,

‎A desperate pursuit later, Rose’s hand landed on the elf’s shoulder.

‎At that, the elf shuddered and quivered, looking as if she wanted to cry. The last stroke on her hand blinked and went dark, after which a bright white light enveloped her, transporting her outside the pocket realm.

‎Rose didn’t waste time after the elf disappeared. Instead, she took a glance at the map and shot towards the direction where the bastard was.

‎Quarter of a minute later, Rose arrived before at a clearing, and a few meters away was an odd sight.

‎Her supposed tagger, was longing perfectly on a couch, his legs swinging every which way.

‎"The Phoenix princess." The young man drawled. "So you’ve finally arrived."

‎"Finally arrived?" Rose raised a brow. "You talk like you know I was coming."

‎"Indeed, I was aware of your arrival, I had watched your fight with that elf after all, of even it could be called a fight." He shrugged.

‎"Don’t worry anyway, I have no intentions of trying to tag you." The young man said. "In this round, I accept my loss." He smiled looking at her, before suddenly disappearing along with his couch.

‎As he left, Rose stared, disbelief crawling into her eyes since a long while ago. She couldn’t believe that someone would just throw away even a little chance that they could increase their chances of qualifying for the next round.

‎"But..." Rose raised a hand to her left chest. "Why... does it..." she whispered. "Why does it hurt so much?" she muttered.
