The Evil Bastard of Murim

Chapter 38 - 37: Arrival at Mount Hua (12)

Unlike the secret path of the Western Sichuan Alliance Branch, which had luminous orbs to light up the whole cave, the cave these bandits used had no such luxury. It was totally dark inside. Of course, it wasn’t unexpected. No matter how much wealth they earned by banditry, it shouldn’t have been enough to use those overly expensive orbs. So, the bandits used handmade torches to get to the base.

‘Wow, look at this!’

The cave was dark. However, since the bandits were using torches, there was enough light to see the path clearly. And what shocked Wolryung was that, the bandits who looked like they hadn’t washed in days, those disgusting bandits had kept this cave too clean just like the shabby hut they were inside a moment ago.

‘Can’t they keep themselves as clean as their home?’

Then again, it wasn’t like Wolryung didn’t understand the reason. If they cleaned themselves up and took care of their body, wouldn’t they start looking like some gentlemen? How would they do banditry, looking like that? To do banditry they needed to look like one in the first place.

‘But still... They can at least take a bath from time to time, right?’

After walking for a few minutes they finally arrived in front of an iron door.

Kiiii...

Cho Heon opened the door slowly, causing a mechanical sound. Anyway, that was that. But...

“...”

Wolryung had thought since the bandits made their base secure enough to go through a secret path then the door of that main base would also require some strange mechanics to open. However, except for the fact that the door was made of iron, it was just an ordinary door and nothing else.

‘Why make a secret path if the door is just that ordinary?’

While they used a strange item to cover the entrance of the secret path, it wouldn’t be that difficult to find if someone actually tried. Even if someone wandered around the hut, there was a high chance they might step on the entrance by luck and fall straight inside. Then, the main base was as good as revealed.

‘How foolish!’

Kiiiii...

As the door fully opened it revealed the inside of the bandits’ base.

“Oh...”

Wolryung and Jin Ho were astonished by the sight they just witnessed. Inside the door was a huge room with another 20 doors inside it. At the center was a huge table the size of a normal room, with 15 chairs arranged around it. A jar of fruit at each corner of the table. And as expected, this damned room was also too clean.

The bandit leader, Cho Heon, gave a polite smile as he looked at Wolryung then extended his hand toward the room respectfully.

“Please, come inside, young warrior.”

“...!”

Wolryung and Jin Ho, who were stunned by the sight for a moment, snapped out of it in an instant. Then Wolryung cleared his throat.

“Ahem... Ok.”

Giving a simple nod, Wolryung and Jin Ho went inside the room and sat on the chairs. Then Wolryung let his eyes sweep as he scanned the whole room.

“Hmm...”

Though the room looked extraordinary at a first glance, surprisingly enough it looked too ordinary on a second careful look. There was nothing special about it except for the fact that its size was large enough to fit a small playground and a huge table at the center of it. Unfortunately that was all about it. Nothing special. Oh, right, and those 20 other doors.

Thinking that it was just the first room, it wasn’t that bad.

Wolryung glanced at Cho Heon with a blank face.

“So... This is your main base?”

“Haha... Yes, young warrior.”

Cho Heon answered with an awkward smile.

“I see...” Then Wolryung looked toward the other doors. “And these doors...”

“Uh, they are the rooms we use, young warrior.”

“Hmm... Is that so?”

“Yes.”

“I see. Not bad.”

Wolryung leaned back in his chair as he let out a small breath.

“Whew... Go bring some food now.”

“Huh? Food?”

At the questioned face of the bandits, Wolryung gave a sharp look.

“You want me to starve to death or something?”

“Uh?!”

Startled, Cho Heon bowed deeply.

“I’m sorry. We will bring the food right now!”

Mount Hua Sect...

Ma Soo Ah, Baek Hwarin, Baek Dojin and 7 other second generation disciples were gathered at the training ground. While the Sect Leader Hyun Song and the Vice Sect Leader Hyun Mu stood at the front.

“You guys know that the exchange tournament with the Southern Edge Sect isn’t far, right?”

At the words of Hyun Song all the disciples shouted with serious faces.

“Yes, Sect Leader.”

These were the proud disciples of Mount Hua Sect. No matter how someone looked at it, it was clear that these 10 disciples had the greatest potential. However, because they couldn’t revive the martial arts of the Mount Hua Sect, these talented disciples’ futures were getting buried here. These disciples could do very well if they just left the Mount Hua Sect and joined any other sect. And yet, they didn’t even think about leaving the sect even after seeing the Sect losing one sidedly against another sect.

Seeing these foolish disciples making serious faces as if they would do their very best at the tournament, Hyun Song and Hyun Mu felt their heart ache. As the Leader and Elders of the Sect, it was their responsibility to do everything for the sect and protect its children. But they couldn’t do anything.

Hyun Song opened his mouth again, his face showing traces of sadness.

“We are thinking about canceling the tournament this year. What do you guys think?”

“Huh?”

All the disciples looked at him with surprised expressions as unexpected words came out from Hyun Song’s mouth.
