The Evil God Summoned by the Saintess
Chapter 493 - 491: Encore Really Doesn’t Care, HonestlyA Tier Five Mage stepped in, and the commotion was quickly brought under control.
Once they learned the source of the riot and had ironclad evidence, the Dragon Rider Guards, while repairing the Array, no longer made things difficult for the mages in the volcano area; the things they carried out were restored to their previous prices.
Refusing to pay was no longer forcibly punished by confiscation, but they still weren’t allowed to leave; whether to hand things over or throw them back in was up to them.
These changes were all thanks to the Tier Four traitor and the Tower of Descent stronghold Hilia had mentioned, along with what they intended to do.
In previous years, the Dragon Rider Guards would never have been so easy to talk to.
But if their harsh attitude played right into the hands of the cult, they had no choice but to change themselves, unless they found a way to contain the cult.
At this time, Hilia and Encore were already temporarily staying in a castle on Dragon Island specifically used to entertain honored guests.
Hilia and Encore’s status and achievements, combined with what they had done in the volcano area, were enough for Dragon Island to treat them this way.
Since they weren’t sure whether Hilia had someone secretly protecting her, Dragon Island didn’t want to act against Hilia; better to treat her with high-level etiquette to avoid giving others something to talk about, and at the same time use it to watch the two of them so they couldn’t pull any more tricks.
Hilia didn’t care about this.
"Things have already gotten to this point; if Dragon Island still doesn’t take the Tower of Descent’s danger seriously, then all I can say is, they’ll deserve what they get."
Encore and Hilia were in the castle garden, enjoying Dragon Island’s specialty flower tea.
"Sigh, looks like our Dragon Island vacation is going to end early," Encore sighed.
Hilia asked curiously, "Speaking of which, Encore, you still haven’t said what you came to Dragon Island for?"
Encore said carelessly, "I came to collect materials from the Dragon Island Volcano, what else?"
"So did you finish collecting them?"
"No, I wanted Bathing Fire Essence." Encore shook her head. "But now it looks like I won’t get the chance."
Hilia nodded. "That’s true. I also wanted the Star of Ice, the companion Spiritual Object to Bathing Fire Essence. What a pity."
Encore said, "Since they’re treating us like this, there’s not much point staying here. I’m planning to go back. What about you?"
"I’m planning to stay a few more days and see how the Dragon Island Volcano situation develops. Even though I can’t directly take part in the scramble for high-grade materials and Spiritual Objects, just watching everyone snatch things back and forth should be pretty entertaining." Hilia paused, then said, "The Tower of Descent definitely won’t let this go. They’re bound to come back in force. I want to see what they do before I head back."
Encore pondered for a moment. "Then Encore will hang around a few more days and keep you company."
As she spoke, Encore pushed up her glasses. "The Tower of Descent has very strong mastery in potion-making. Sooner or later I’m going to deal with all the poisons their witches produce. Now that we’ve run into a major operation by the Tower of Descent, it really wouldn’t be right to leave early."
"Alright then."
Hilia didn’t mind.
They were currently very "safe."
Once Dragon Island verified their identities and decided to treat them with the etiquette of honored guests, they indirectly gained Dragon Island’s protection as well.
Though that protection was most likely just surveillance with benefits attached.
"Come on, let’s go take a look from the viewing platform outside the volcano." Hilia stood up and called.
It was the second day of the volcano’s eruption. The volcano was still very active, just not as intense as yesterday, though it was still spewing thick volcanic ash.
This volcanic ash was kept within a certain range by Dragon Island; they didn’t let it cover too wide an area.
All of this was valuable stuff, and Dragon Island naturally wouldn’t let it fall into the sea. In past years they directly collected it, and this year was no different.
Hilia and Encore once again came to the viewing platform outside the Dragon Island Volcano.
Along with them came the maids from the guest castle.
Calling them maids, in reality each one was a combat maid with Tier Two strength.
This was just the obvious escort; as for whether there were High-tier Mages watching from the shadows, Hilia didn’t know, unless she asked Rose for help.
With Encore right beside her, Hilia rarely interacted with Rose in the real world to avoid Encore noticing anything, even though Rose would occasionally come out, especially when she and Encore were brought to the castle.
The two of them looked at the still-erupting volcano from the viewing platform and chatted idly.
"After yesterday’s sudden incident, Dragon Island now knows about the Tower of Descent’s arrangements. With their guard up, there probably won’t be any more conflicts."
"The Array was repaired really fast; they already fixed it." Hilia looked toward the spot where the Array had cracked.
Encore instead looked up at the volcano, a pensive expression on her face. "In previous years, today would be the last active day for the volcano. Once its activity ends, the condensed high-grade Spiritual Objects appear. I wonder what will show up this year."
Hilia said, "Isn’t it supposed to be Bathing Fire Essence?"
Encore shook her head. "That’s just what’s most likely. Sometimes it’s wrong."
"The Tower of Descent’s target is the Fire Spirit. If Bathing Fire Essence doesn’t appear, then a Fire Spirit can’t be born... Their arrangements are most likely for the Fire Spirit, so it should be Bathing Fire Essence."
Encore let out a sigh. "Whatever. I don’t even have the chance to try my luck now. But Encore doesn’t mind; it’s just Bathing Fire Essence..."
Hilia glanced at her and clearly saw the unstoppable disappointment on her face.
She had been mentally prepared long ago, knowing she probably wouldn’t get the chance, but she’d still had that tiny sliver of hope; now even that was gone.
Hilia smiled slightly and said nothing.
After all, she was in the same boat.
Just as the two were chatting, chaos suddenly broke out at the city wall below where people were lined up to leave the volcano.
Hilia and Encore’s attention was immediately drawn over.
Both of them frowned.
They saw the originally orderly line suddenly descend into confusion.
Vague shouts and curses drifted up.
Not long after, the glow of Magic erupted.
Hilia and Encore exchanged a look and were about to head over when the voice of the maid escorting them sounded in their ears.
"Miss Xilia, Miss Anke. The master said you are not to enter the volcano area. Please don’t make things difficult for us."
Hilia stopped in her tracks.
"Alright."
Heading over had just been an instinctive reaction.
Soon the two of them remembered their circumstances and could only shake their heads after another glance at each other.
Hilia said, "We’d like to get a bit closer and watch from a nearby viewing platform. Is that alright?"
"Of course, but please don’t casually use Magic, you two."
"No problem. Unless someone attacks us, we won’t cast spells at will," Hilia said carelessly.
So the two of them left the viewing platform and came to the best spot to watch the scene. At this point, others had also arrived there.
As they came over, Hilia suddenly heard someone calling her.
"Hilia?"
Hilia looked up and saw a man and a woman watching her.
Oh? Another familiar face.
"Pamisha? Anthony? What are you two doing here?"
