The Evil God Summoned by the Saintess
Chapter 494 - 492: Could Dragon Island Possibly Sink? The ones greeting were naturally Pamisha and Anthony, and Hilia joined them, catching up while watching the battle below.
Hilia didn’t know the cause of the fight.
There were no signs of pollution being active.
At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but as the battle intensified, casualties started to appear.
All the mages were fighting with bloodshot eyes.
Encore just glanced at the scene and couldn’t help but shake his head.
"Clearly, we warned them yesterday that there are poisons from the Tower of Descent in the volcanic area, yet they simply refused to listen and insisted on entering?"
Hilia said flatly, "A warning once is enough. The second time, just let it be naturally. Don’t mind it; I’ve grown used to it."
Encore was silent for a moment and could only sigh lightly.
Thankfully, the sudden brawl didn’t last long and was brutally suppressed by the Dragon Rider Guards.
After the battle ended, just as the Dragon Rider Guards were preparing to clear the remains on the ground, those remains bizarrely absorbed into the earth and vanished.
This situation caught the Guard Captain’s attention, and he immediately reported it to Taros.
Taros, being a natural mage with a certain amount of control over the earth, began investigating, trying to find some arrays or such within.
Rose’s phantom appeared beside Hilia, chuckling lightly, "What this cult is using isn’t an array, but rather a more mysterious ritual, marking targets with poisons. Once the target dies, they can remotely sacrifice the target’s flesh and blood through the mark. Only mages above Tier Six might be able to trace the location of the remote altar from small clues, but it’s just a possibility."
Hilia’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly asked, "Is the conspiracy of the Tower of Descent still ongoing?"
Rose nodded, "Of course. The Fire Spirit will come out tomorrow; they definitely won’t let that go."
Hilia opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately said nothing.
Forget it, it’s no longer related to me.
Trust Dragon Island.
"Huh? Hilia, doesn’t that person look familiar to you?"
Encore’s voice came in her ear, and Hilia looked up to see a team following Taros in the investigation.
"Laine and his wingmen, who we defeated," Hilia said.
The team was indeed Laine and his four female teammates.
"They’re still all right; impressive," Encore marveled.
Hilia nodded, also impressed that Laine indeed had hidden depths, able to steady the situation.
At this moment, a maid behind her said, "Do you know Mr. Laine, Misses? Just now, the master sent a message saying Mr. Laine knows you’re on Dragon Island and wants to catch up with you tonight."
"Don’t know him," Hilia said without hesitation.
What a joke.
There’s nothing worth catching up about with someone like Laine, who’s skilled at flirting with girls.
If he’s not trying to win us over, then he’s definitely seeking revenge.
No matter which it is, Hilia wouldn’t meet him.
Encore also said, "If Mr. Laine isn’t worried about what happened during the league, I don’t mind meeting him."
Hilia was stunned and thought thoughtfully, "Encore is right; okay, we’re willing to catch up, provided he comes alone."
The maid nodded, "Alright, I will convey the message."
Hilia and Encore watched for a moment and then said goodbye to Pamisha as they left.
Meanwhile, Laine, who was with Taros in the investigation, received Hilia and Encore’s response.
"They want me to go alone? Are they trying to get me killed?"
Laine immediately found Taros to express his reluctance to meet Hilia and Encore. The last time Hilia drove a wedge, it troubled him greatly, but it wasn’t devastating because they had Dragon Language Magic as a bond between them.
But if he went alone to meet other girls and the wingmen found out, that would be truly hopeless.
"Really not meeting them?" Taros asked curiously, "Hilia and Encore are the new generation of geniuses from Ista; you and they did start off as adversaries, but chatting with them might reveal some information."
Laine firmly shook his head, "Not going, absolutely not!"
"Alright then." Taros didn’t insist, continuing his research underground.
He frowned, "This is too strange, completely disappearing; when did the Tower of Descent acquire such terrifying capabilities?"
Laine hesitated then said, "This situation reminds me of what happened in Kost City. Sir Taros, I think this should be reported to Lord Erina and let Lord Erina make the decision."
Taros waved his hand, "Such a minor thing as the Tower of Descent sinking an island? Just some Tier Three and below mage corpses, what can they do? This small matter doesn’t need to bother Professor Erina."
Laine insisted, "That’s what the Northern Alliance thought back then too, until the Abyss Gate opened and their high-tier mages had to intervene. Even then, it resulted in a town being frozen in tragedy. We can’t ignore their harm just because the cult seems to make minor moves."
Laine was present at the Letes City incident and knew that when these cultists stir trouble, it escalates step by step. Underestimating them could indeed lead to Dragon Island sinking.
Laine was the strongest talented mage of the current generation, and his team cast Dragon Language Magic, able to easily slay a Tier Four mage. If they were all Tier Four, even Taros might not be a match.
Taros valued the thoughts of geniuses.
He pondered for a moment and said, "Let’s investigate further. If by evening there’s still no clue, I’ll contact Professor Erina and let him make the decision. But let’s try not to disturb him."
A brawl among Tier Three and below mages, although with bizarrely disappearing flesh, isn’t something worthy of disturbing Erina. If Erina gets involved, it would only result in Taros being blamed once the matter is resolved.
Taros contemplated briefly and made a decision, "Let’s ask that person to come and check; maybe she knows something."
Investigating cults isn’t his specialty.
Such matters can’t be solved with brute force further investigation; a professional is needed.
Luckily, someone on Dragon Island is actually a "professional."
...
Deep within the volcano.
Looking down at her bracelet, Pera’s gaze sharpened as she guarded Shaline.
"A bunch of mage flesh mysteriously disappeared? Want to invite me to investigate?"
Pera looked up at Raphael, who was still present.
"Chairman..."
"Go," Raphael said calmly, "You’re working for Dragon Island now, no need to refuse."
"But you said the cult’s action is..."
"Don’t mind it; I never agreed with his methods. Just do your duty."
"Then what about Shaline..."
"I’ll watch over her."
"Alright, I’ll go and return soon."
Pera left, and Raphael opened his eyes, watching Shaline still trying her hardest to call upon the Gods, sighing with disappointment.
Indeed...
