The Exiled Alpha's Human Male Mate.[BL]

Chapter 66: Small Punishment For Both Men.

For several seconds, Vincent simply stared at Rivers with a dangerous intensity, as though weighing exactly what he should do to him.

Bryce could tell from the expression on his face that whatever was running through his mind was far from harmless.

"Walker, how would you like everyone to know that you aren’t nearly as morally upright as you pretend to be?"

He pulled his phone from the front pocket of his suit jacket and played a video showing Vincent being obsessively protective of Bryce moments earlier, followed by the part where he declared that Bryce was already taken.

"How would you like people to know that you’re married to a woman while secretly having an affair with a man?"

Vincent’s expression hardened more, prominent veins appearing across his face as his anger escalated into something far more volatile.

"Smash that phone completely, throw it in the trash, and get the fuck out of here before I smash your head the same way."

His voice was low, but the fury beneath it made every word tremble.

Rivers didn’t even hesitate, he did exactly as he had been told. He slammed the phone against the floor with enough force to shatter it, then stepped on the broken pieces until nothing remained intact.

He crouched, gathered the fragments, walked over to the nearest trash can, and threw them inside before heading toward the exit.

His three men, still visibly stunned by what they had witnessed, hurried after him.

Vincent watched Rivers disappear through the doorway, his expression suggesting that he wasn’t entirely satisfied with how easily he had let the man go.

For a moment, Bryce could almost see him reconsidering his decision to let him leave, so he interrupted Vincent’s thoughts.

"It won’t take long before someone notices that something is wrong with Mr. Ashton," Bryce said cautiously. "Come on," he added more gently. "Go back and finish your conversation with him."

Vincent looked at Bryce.

The veins across his face gradually disappeared, the tension draining from his features as his body began to relax.

"I’ll make it quick, then we can go back. Wait for me."

"Don’t be ridiculous. I’m in no hurry to go back. Just talk to him until he’s satisfied and give him your attention. He gave you the opportunity to present your design, so you should at least show some gratitude for that." Bryce forced himself to sound casual. "I’ll go to the washroom and come back to wait for you."

His heart hammered as the lie left his mouth.

"You can’t go there alone," Vincent refused immediately.

Bryce stared at him.

"Oh my God, what is wrong with you? Just because it’s a men’s washroom you think some men are going to hit on me there?"

His irritation rose as Vincent’s protectiveness began to remind him far too much of Dave.

"Why are you acting exactly like him lately? Do you think I can’t take care of myself? Or do you think I’m like a piece of paper that’ll simply blow away with whoever happens to come along?"

"That’s not what I meant."

"Then just go release whatever spell you put on that man before someone notices something is wrong and finish the meeting with him."

Vincent looked as though he wanted to argue, but after a moment, he simply turned away and walked back toward Mr. Ashton.

Bryce watched him go, his pulse quickening.

This was his chance.

He slipped through the door and headed toward the elevator they had used earlier, but then stopped.

Rivers had left only moments before him, and Bryce suspected he was already in the elevator. If he took the same route, they could end up crossing paths downstairs, which was the last thing he needed.

He turned toward the stairs instead, hoping his speed would get him to the ground floor before him.

He focused, and the ability came naturally.

Within a second, he reached the ground floor, where countless people occupied the dining area, eating, talking.

Bryce headed straight for the exit and stepped outside, his heart pounding against his ribs.

For a moment, he couldn’t bring himself to leave.

Walking away from Vincent without saying anything felt strangely difficult, but he reminded himself why he was doing this.

He needed to get away from both men and prove to himself that he could have a life of his own instead of constantly being controlled by someone else.

And if the impossible possibility of the pregnancy was real, then he needed to think about the life growing inside him as well.

His reluctance to leave Dave made sense. Dave had been in danger, and despite everything that had happened between them, Bryce couldn’t deny that his feelings for him hadn’t completely disappeared.

But why should he feel guilty about leaving Vincent?

He wasn’t in love with Vincent too.

Was he?

He pushed the thought away.

Perhaps he had been far too forgiving toward both men after everything they had done to him. Maybe leaving without a goodbye was a small punishment they deserved for once.

Once he reached the busy streets of Alverton, his first priority was getting a new phone line. He found a nearby shop and approached the seller.

"Can you hurry up, please?"

The seller completed the registration, activated the new line, and handed it to him with the new number.

Bryce immediately transferred the money Vincent had sent him into the new account, then blocked the account through which Vincent had transferred it, cutting off another possible means of reaching him.

He was just about to remove the old line from his phone when a message appeared from Dave.

Bryce stared at the screen.

He had woken up.

A quiet sense of relief settled inside him before he could stop it.

He opened the message.

~What was the point of saving me if you were planning to run away and leave me behind?

You should have let them kill me without letting me find out that my brothers, the people I’ve looked up to all my life, were the ones who could betray me to this extent.

Now my heart has to bear two kinds of pain at once.

You’re driving me insane, Bryce. Call me a psychopath like you’ve done lately, but if you want me alive, then it will have to be with you.

Otherwise, end my life yourself, just as they wanted to, or let them kill me. Maybe then you’ll finally be free from me.

So, yes, I don’t care who’s trying to end my life right now. I’ll deal with that later. Finding you, telling you how sorry I am for everything I’ve done, and proving to you that I’m willing to change and let you do whatever you want if you agree to stay with me is my priority.

How many times do I have to tell you that I really can’t live without you? Or are you telling yourself that I’ll simply make someone else impersonate you so I can be with them and forget about you, eventually falling in love with them the way I did with you?

It’s all wrong.

I’ve already told you, and I’ll tell you again. What I feel for you doesn’t even compare to what I felt for Eli, and that’s what makes you impossible to replace.

You probably don’t believe me, and that’s completely okay. I... ~

Bryce forced himself to stop reading.

He was getting drawn into the message, losing sight of the fact that he was supposed to be running.

Reluctantly, he removed the old line from his phone and replaced it with the new one, making sure there was no obvious way for either Vincent or Dave to reach him through the number or track his movements through it.
