The Exiled Alpha's Human Male Mate.[BL]

Chapter 77: "I’m Also In Love With A Man."

Bryce was trying to concentrate on what he was feeling, particularly the strange pain that had suddenly seized his chest, while also wondering whether the hospital plan would work without forcing him to expose his gender, but the men’s voices reached him from behind, repeatedly distracting him from his thoughts.

"I can’t actually believe boss is gay. How is he going to handle the scandal that’s all over the world?" the first man said, confirming that they were, in fact, Vincent’s men.

"What’s there not to believe about him being gay? What difference does it make? He’s still him." the second asked.

"I didn’t say he’s any different. I just said it’s unexpected, since you know... he had a wife."

"He could be bisexual and simply fell out of love with his wife. I’m honestly glad that happened because I couldn’t stand that woman. We’ll end the scandal she left behind as long as she’s not around anymore."

"You’re right. Jesus, she’s a pain in the ass."

The first man’s voice carried the same unmistakable hatred.

"The people at the company are saying the same thing. Earlier, I opened the company group chat, and almost all they were talking about was how they’d gladly accept the fact that Vincent is gay if it meant that woman was leaving for good. They can’t actually believe he’s gay either. They kept saying the video might be fake..."

He paused briefly before chuckling.

"I watched that thing an uncountable number of times. That kiss... it was intense. It almost felt like Vincent couldn’t get enough of him. Are you sure he’s bisexual? I think he’s overly gay? Or perhaps he’s bisexual and just intensely in love with Bryce? He’s going crazy not knowing where he is. I wonder what will happen if we don’t find him."

"Why don’t we stop talking about him and talk about us instead?" the second man suggested calmly.

Bryce heard the man’s heartbeat suddenly accelerate, the rhythm becoming noticeably quicker, which made him wonder why.

"What about us?" the first man asked, sounding genuinely confused.

The second man did not answer immediately. When he finally spoke, his heartbeat raced even faster.

"I like someone too. I mean... I’m also in love with a gu, but I can’t figure out whether he’s gay or not, or whether he’s ever going to return what I feel for him. What about you? Is there someone you like?"

The first man did not answer the question about himself. Instead, he asked, "Why don’t you just ask the guy if he’s gay or perhaps bisexual, and whether he might like you back? Dude, this is the twenty-first century. People don’t care who you like anymore.

I mean, not everyone is accepting, but people are changing. Ask him directly. And if he isn’t interested, I bet there’s someone else out there for you. After all, you’ve got everything anyone could want in a boyfriend- handsome, smart, financially stable, protective, strong, and so on."

The second man’s heartbeat accelerated at those words, growing so rapid that Bryce began to wonder whether it might actually burst through his chest.

Why was his heart beating that fast?

Was it because he had just admitted to his colleague that he was attracted to men, or was it because...

"Are you gay? Or perhaps... bisexual?" the second man asked.

Bryce’s thoughts stopped.

Suddenly, everything fell into place.

That explained the strange sense of fear he had heard in the man’s heartbeat when he confessed that he liked someone. The man he was in love with was the one sitting right beside him.

Bryce found the realization so entertaining that he nearly forgot he was supposed to be pretending to be in pain.

The first man did not answer immediately. His heartbeat accelerated as well, climbing rapidly until it reached a frantic peak. Rather than answer, he chuckled, almost nervously.

"Why are you asking me? Or are you simply practicing how you’re going to ask the person?"

Bryce almost laughed.

Even as the man spoke, Bryce could tell that he was pretending not to understand that he was the person being confessed to.

The attempt at ignorance was almost absurdly transparent.

He could tell from the frantic rhythm of the man’s heartbeat, but the question itself was even more revealing.

He knew exactly what his colleague was asking and exactly whom the confession was directed toward, he simply refused to acknowledge it.

Bryce listened in fascination, his attention completely diverted from his own predicament as the strange exchange unfolded behind him.

For the first time in a long time, he found himself genuinely entertained.

"Kyle," the second man called, his voice suddenly tender.

Kyle’s heartbeat went wild, and even Bryce found himself dreading the words that were about to follow.

"I’m so in love with you."

Oh my God.

Bryce screamed internally.

He had actually said it outright.

A smile spread across his face before he could stop it, and he immediately forced his expression into a frown when he realized what he was doing.

He glanced toward the driver to check if the man had noticed. Fortunately, the driver seemed entirely focused on the traffic ahead. Bryce could see the hospital just up the road, already close enough to make out clearly.

He felt a pang of disappointment.

He wanted the hospital to be farther away so he could keep listening to the two men’s love story unfolding right behind him.

The men’s car suddenly veered out of the road and came to an abrupt stop.

Both men’s heartbeats accelerated simultaneously, overlapping until Bryce could no longer distinguish one from the other.

The sounds were so intense that they seemed almost synchronized, and to Bryce, those heartbeats communicated far more than either man was saying aloud.

It sounded as though Kyle, who was apparently the one driving, had either just had his suspicions confirmed or had been caught so completely off guard by the confession that he had been forced to stop the car.

His colleague, meanwhile, was left waiting in dreadful uncertainty, his heartbeat telling how desperately he was anticipating a response that still had not come.

"I’ve been trying to hide it because I didn’t know what you thought about something like that. I kept hesitating because I didn’t know if I could ever get over the rejection if that was what you would have given me after telling you how I feel about you. But I can’t hide it anymore. I like you, and I’m not trying to pressure you about anything. I just want you to know what I feel, so that if one day you..."

His words stopped abruptly.

Bryce immediately looked back, trying to see what had happened, but his view was obstructed. Their car had stopped, and several other vehicles had pulled into the spaces around them, blocking his line of sight and preventing him from seeing what was happening inside.

Frustration surged through Bryce.

He almost couldn’t contain it.

What happened?

He wanted to know what Kyle had done. He wanted to hear his response, to know whether the confession had been accepted or rejected.
