Bryce couldn’t bring himself to look at the monitor as the images of what he was carrying inside him gradually formed into something clearer.

Despite desperately wanting to see, his eyes closed involuntarily, leaving him lying there and waiting for the doctor to tell him what she had found.

All he could hear were the frantic voices in his head, repeating the same terrifying question.

What if she sees something she’s not supposed to see?

The thought had barely settled when the woman’s calm voice reached him.

"Any wolf baby usually needs its father’s pheromones at this early stage for it to develop without abnormalities and grow strong, especially alpha heirs."

Bryce’s eyes flew open so violently that for a moment he could only stare at her, convinced he had somehow misheard her.

His heart slammed against his ribs, and the blood seemed to drain from his face as he searched her expression for some indication that she had said something else.

"What?"

The word came out barely above a breath.

He pushed himself upright, but the woman immediately placed a hand against his shoulder and gently urged him back down.

"I’m afraid you’ll have to seek Alpha Vincent’s pheromones soon. Not only will the baby need them, but you’ll need them as well."

Bryce stared at her as though the woman had suddenly begun speaking a language he didn’t understand.

Vincent. Pheromones. Wolf baby. Alpha heir. How did she know all of that?

The words kept circling through Bryce’s mind, each one adding another layer to the confusion already threatening to overwhelm him.

The more he replayed what she had said, the harder it became to convince himself that he had misunderstood her.

She hadn’t guessed, and she hadn’t been speaking in vague terms; she had known exactly what she was talking about.

And slowly, with a growing sense of dread, Bryce realized that the woman knew him.

He jerked away from her hand and sat upright despite the dizziness that immediately washed over him.

His eyes darted toward the monitor, then back to the woman, as though he expected to find some explanation that would make all of this impossible.

"How do you know that?"

The woman didn’t answer immediately.

Bryce’s pulse raced harder.

His fingers tightened around the edge of the bed.

"Who are you?!"

"You’re really grown," the woman said instead of answering his question. "Who would have known you’d rise to become the Moon Goddess’s chosen after that woman discarded you?" she added.

There was suddenly nothing concealed in either her expression or her words, and Bryce’s anxiety intensified alongside his irritation as he realized that, once again, someone knew things about him that he didn’t even know about himself, someone whose identity he didn’t even know.

"I fucking asked who you are!" he snapped, his voice coming out harsher than he intended as he pushed himself farther back against the bed.

"I’m your healer. Your doctor," the woman answered.

"My doctor?" Bryce frowned, "What are you even talking about? How do you know me?"

The woman didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she slowly raised her hands and pulled the mask away from her face before removing the wig that had concealed her hair.

Bryce’s entire body went rigid.

His eyes widened, his breath catching so sharply that his chest hurt.

He instinctively dragged himself backward across the bed until his shoulders struck the wall, staring at the woman as though the face beneath the disguise couldn’t possibly belong to the same person who had been standing before him moments ago.

She was old, far older than he could have imagined.

The woman’s eyes suddenly flickered purple, the color bleeding into the same gold Bryce had seen in his vision moments earlier.

His breath stopped.

He stared at her eyes, unable to blink as the colors shifted deliberately beneath her control, as though she were summoning them simply to prove that what he had seen earlier had not been a hallucination.

His mouth parted, but no words came.

"Let’s get out of here. I’ll explain everything to you," the woman said as she replaced the mask over her face and secured the wig over her hair, concealing the old woman Bryce had just seen beneath the disguise.

Bryce didn’t move, still struggling to comprehend the succession of impossible things that had happened within the last few minutes, caught between his instinct to keep his distance from the woman and the inexplicable familiarity that made following her feel strangely difficult to resist.

"The baby is fine."

Bryce barely registered the words. The reassurance should have been the most important thing in the world to him now, but his thoughts had already become consumed by the woman standing before him.

He needed to know what she knew, why she knew it, and how she could possibly know him when he had no recollection of who she was, even though something deep within him seemed to recognize her.

"We need to leave from here. I don’t belong here," she insisted.

Bryce finally forced himself off the bed and followed her, still watching her with wary confusion. She moved with the effortless pace of someone who looked barely thirty, despite the fact that, without the disguise, she had appeared like an eighty-year-old.

With the lab coat still on and a second face mask concealing the one that had altered her appearance, she led Bryce through the hospital lobby, their footsteps carrying them past the reception desk and through the entrance until they finally stepped outside.

Once they were clear of the building, she removed the lab coat, though she kept the mask in place.

"How do you know me?" Bryce asked, unable to hold back any longer.

Ever since she had revealed herself, the questions had been gnawing at him with increasing urgency, each unanswered thought tightening the pressure in his chest until the need for an explanation became impossible to suppress.

Every step only sharpened it, leaving him with the unbearable sense that if she didn’t answer soon, he might lose his mind.

"Why don’t we go somewhere private and talk? Somewhere like your house."

"No." Bryce immediately shook his head. "I’m not inviting a stranger into my house, so we’ll talk here. There are plenty of benches along the street a few minutes away. We can sit there."

"The sun is setting," the woman said calmly. "You know what is supposed to happen. The moment the moon rises, it will start, and you won’t be able to hide it if it happens here in the streets."

Bryce groaned inwardly at the reminder but he chose to listen to her anyway.

_

Before going to the bank earlier, he had already secured an apartment in one of the flats around town, a place that contained almost nothing beyond the small bag holding his documents, the bag he had been carrying inside the suit Vincent had bought for him, and the clothes he had purchased and changed out of after buying the dress.

With no reason left to hesitate, he led the woman toward it. He had already risked far more dangerous things than following a stranger to an apartment, and he wasn’t about to let caution stop him now.

He pulled out his phone as they walked and checked the time.

6:31 p.m.

His heart skipped a beat before settling into its normal rhythm. Whatever was waiting for him tonight was only minutes away, and the thought sent a faint tension through his body as he quickened his pace.

They eventually reached the flats, and he pushed the gate open, allowing the woman to enter before following her inside.

The apartment was on the third floor, and with no elevator available, they had no choice but to take the stairs.

The woman climbed them with an ease that unsettled Bryce, never showing the slightest difficulty, while Bryce, young as he was, could already feel the strain building in his legs and lungs.

By the time they reached the third floor, Bryce was breathing more heavily, but the woman appeared completely unaffected.

He unlocked the apartment door and pushed it open, stepping inside with her close behind him. Once the door fell shut and they were finally alone, he turned to face her, the questions that had followed him all the way from the hospital pressing against the tip of his tongue.

"Well?" he muttered, his voice carrying the impatience of someone who couldn’t wait any longer.

"Should I keep this on, or..." the woman asked, gesturing toward her disguise.

"Remove it," Bryce answered without a second thought. He wanted to see the woman beneath the disguise and hear the truth from her without anything standing between them.

The woman pulled off the outer face mask first, then removed the mask concealing her real face, followed by the fake hair, leaving her white hair gathered back with a hairband.

"There’s a lot to explain, and honestly, I don’t even know where to begin. Why don’t you ask me whatever you want to know, and I’ll answer your questions?" she said, dropping the disguises onto the floor.
