The Exiled Alpha's Human Male Mate.[BL]

Chapter 92: Sounds Like A Great Plan.

Unexpectedly, Dave moved.

He silently gathered his crutches and struggled to put weight on his injured foot before making his way out of the room.

Neither Vincent nor Bryce stopped him. They simply watched in silence as he left, both of them understanding what had most likely prompted his sudden departure.

Bryce’s declaration that he was carrying Vincent’s baby must have affected Dave, even if he still had not fully believed it. Saying he was pregnant with Vincent’s child inevitably implied that he had slept with Vincent, and that alone was probably enough to explain the change in Dave’s demeanor.

Under ordinary circumstances, Dave would have argued, become possessive, or allowed his temper to turn violent.

Bryce was surprised.

It was unlike Dave.

A lot had actually changed overnight.

Bryce did not know what to make of Dave’s reaction, and he forced himself not to dwell on it or dissect the meaning behind it.

If hearing that Bryce was pregnant with someone else’s child hurt him, then perhaps Dave should be allowed to experience some of the pain he had once inflicted on Bryce.

Even so, an uneasy feeling settled inside him.

"So you’re just going to trust him with the secret?" Bryce asked once Dave was gone. "I thought you said he couldn’t be trusted, that he would only sell me to the scientists and abandon me. And now you’re telling him about us so plainly?"

"I don’t think he’s going to tell anyone if we ask him not to."

Vincent’s answer caught Bryce off guard.

He stared at him before a faint scoff escaped him. "Wow. This trust has really grown so fast."

The words slipped out before he could decide whether he actually wanted to say them.

Vincent did not seem offended. Instead, he considered the matter for a moment before speaking.

"I don’t know. I think I just realized that he isn’t actually what he pretends to be. I can feel it even with my abilities. Last night, he was crying the whole night like a baby, and he wouldn’t stop. He pretended he didn’t care about what was happening. He acted as though he didn’t care that his father was dead, claiming that his father had lied to him and killed his mother, and that the only family he’d ever known, the people he’d considered close to him, weren’t actually his family at all.

They wanted to take everything from him and imprison him just so he could suffer. He was crying about you leaving him, and... I don’t know, someone else he lost."

Bryce’s heart seemed to stop.

Something painful pressed into his chest at the last words.

So Dave was still crying about Eli?

After all those years, he was still crying over him?

The realization intensified the ache already forming inside him.

Clearly, Eli would always be the person Dave had truly loved, while Bryce himself would always be a replacement in Dave’s heart or mind.

No matter how many years passed, there would always be someone who had occupied that place before him.

Bryce could not believe he was still affected so deeply by it.

How much had he actually loved Dave?

Or was this simply the desperate need to know that all those years had not been meaningless, that Dave’s feelings had been directed toward him rather than toward someone else he had been trying to replace? Just like BJJ had said.

He forced the thought aside before it could unravel him.

There were other things Vincent had said that had left him momentarily breathless.

"Dave’s father is dead?" he asked.

He had not heard about that.

And even though he knew little about what had happened, one thing seemed certain: the twins had something to do with it.

"Yes," Vincent answered simply.

"What do you mean he lied to Dave and killed his mother?" the disbelief in Bryce’s voice mingled with something close to sympathy. "Dave’s mother is dead too?"

"The woman he’d been living with all that time wasn’t Dave’s real mother. Apparently, his father had an affair even though he already had three children with his wife.

He got the other woman pregnant, and his wife demanded that he kill her so their family could return to normal. Sinclair killed her and brought Dave home, demanding that he be treated well or he would make all of them leave the residence.

That angered the mother and her three children for years. They were forced to pretend to love Dave, and they never told him that the woman he believed was his mother wasn’t actually his mother.

Eventually, they killed the old man they had wanted to kill all along, and then they went after the wealth Sinclair had placed under Dave’s name. They wanted to imprison him in some dungeon instead of simply killing him, so he could suffer."

Vincent’s voice remained steady as he explained.

"That was where I found him. He’s angry even at his dead father, and he doesn’t know what to feel about him. That was what he said."

Bryce’s fingers curled slowly into tight fists.

He could not have explained exactly why his adrenaline was rising, but something about everything Vincent had told him had stirred a reaction he could not suppress.

Vincent’s eyes narrowed, then widened slightly.

"Your eyes are glowing purple."

Bryce immediately closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, the glow was gone.

Vincent studied him for another moment before asking, "I can already tell that you’re very different from a normal wolf. Are you really pregnant, Bryce?"

The disbelief was still etched across his face.

"Yes, but we can talk about that later. If I’m going to stay here, then I won’t be dealing with ambushes from those human beings I can’t stand anymore. We need to do something about them now."

"You’re actually pregnant?"

Vincent sounded as though that was the only part of Bryce’s entire statement that had registered.

His gaze dropped toward Bryce’s stomach, and for a moment, it seemed as though he wanted to reach out and feel it for himself. He did not move, however, his hand remaining at his side.

"Did you hear anything else I said?" Bryce asked, narrowing his eyes at him.

"My mind is all over the place. I..." Vincent began.

"I said we need to do something about those people."

Bryce’s voice came out firmly enough to pull Vincent’s attention back to the matter at hand.

"What do you want us to do? Kill them?" Vincent asked. "I was about to when you asked me to stop."

"Not necessarily kill them. That wouldn’t even give them the punishment they deserve."

Bryce considered the possibilities, his mind moving through different ways they could deal them.

"Perhaps..." He paused as an idea took shape. "We could make them lose their memories. Make them forget about Dave completely. Make them forget that they ever lived in that residence. They would only remember that they had always been homeless. Then we could make them wander off, walking the roads until they’re far away from this country, and make sure they never return."

Bryce could not think of anything better.

The solution seemed to satisfy Vincent as well.

"But before they wander off, we should make sure they sign everything back," Dave added. "I’m sure the old man left something for them as well. And if they have a lawyer handling those properties, we’ll just have to erase his/her memory about that as well. After that, things should calm down."

"Sounds like a great plan," Vincent said after considering it. "And I think we should tell him first."

"Yeah," Bryce said, already moving toward the door when Vincent followed behind him.
