The blow tore away half of the corpse’s face, exposing disgusting white rotting flesh, with worms writhing inside.

"Urgh..."

The thought of sharing the same lake with monsters nearly made Phield throw up.

"Don’t get distracted!" Rosalia immediately warned him in his ear.

"Don’t worry."

Phield might have been gagging, but his movements were still fast. He grabbed the aquatic corpse and pulled it toward him, driving his rapier straight through its skull.

More aquatic corpses surged toward him, and Phield cut down seven or eight in rapid succession.

Even more aquatic corpses closed in from all sides. Phield simply could not deal with them all. He immediately switched the rapier to his left hand and thrust forward with all his strength.

"Gurgle~"

Two bubbles escaped as the rapier pierced straight through the corpse’s eye socket.

The aquatic corpse was mindless. Its ghastly white hands clamped around Phield’s neck with terrifying strength, powerful enough to split mountains and shatter stone.

Fortunately, Rosalia’s divine power protected him, preventing the corpse from tearing him apart. Phield drove his elbow repeatedly into its arms, knocking them away, then followed up with a vicious kick that sent the aquatic corpse flying.

Phield drew his greatsword with his right hand and cleaved the aquatic corpse in two, but the tremendous force nearly sent him flying through the water himself.

"That was close! Fighting underwater is completely different from fighting on land."

Even dealing with a few aquatic corpses had left Phield struggling to adapt.

"If I use Endless Severance underwater, I’ll probably be the first one swept away by the current. I’ll have to find a Divine Chosen suited for naval warfare in the future."

He turned around and saw Aikalia gritting her teeth without making a sound. She silently endured the attacks of two aquatic corpses, gripping their legs tightly to keep them from attacking Phield.

"If you’re in danger, call for help. There’s no need to force yourself to endure it."

"I’m fine."

Phield quickly swam over and dealt with the corpses before the two of them continued toward the black dragon.

This time, they were lucky. Before long, they pushed through the murky waters and finally saw the true appearance of the underwater mass grave.

Corpses.

Nothing but corpses.

There were human bodies, as well as the corpses of magical beasts and fish.

Countless bodies had become tangled, twisted, and fused together, forming a gigantic, irregular mass that stretched endlessly across the lake and completely blocked its entire width.

Phield had once read in a history book that when corpses blocked a river channel, the flow of the river would be cut off. He had thought it was an exaggeration.

Now, he realized it had been a literal description.

"Grrr..."

The people who had become corrupted corpses all reached toward Phield at once. It was impossible to tell whether they were begging for help or trying to drag the living down into the abyss with them. The sight was enough to make anyone’s sanity plummet.

Fortunately, they were tangled together, making it difficult for them to break free.

"Good thing we didn’t attack recklessly." Phield’s scalp tingled. "If we broke them apart and let them escape, it would immediately trigger a corpse tide."

"How many stupid things did the previous Empress do?" Rosalia was stunned.

"Why would humans do this to their own kind?" Aikalia’s eyes trembled with shock. She had always thought humans were only cruel toward other races.

"Now isn’t the time to talk about that. Find the black dragon."

Phield knew better than to let his mind wander.

Reflecting on human atrocities, human nature, and all that nonsense was pointless.

Even the people who committed those atrocities had never reflected on their actions, so why should some uninvolved bystander waste time doing it for them?

The group continued searching through the mass of corpses. After more than ten minutes, with Phield surfacing several times for air, he finally spotted half of the black dragon’s rotting face hidden away in a remote corner.

The mighty corrupted black dragon had been crushed deep into the mud of the riverbed by countless corpses.

"It has the strength of an early sixth-tier creature, but the water is constantly corroding it. Right now, its strength is roughly at the peak of the third tier of divine power. It’s currently dormant." Rosalia sensed it carefully for a long while before finally speaking.

"Once we’re ready, aim for its head and give it a good surprise."

Phield chuckled and yanked hard on the chain in his hand.

"Let’s go."

Boom!

On the shore, the corrupted dragon raised its grotesque arm and pulled everyone out of the water.

"Well? Did you come up with a solution?" Violet asked curiously. Deep down, she still doubted whether Phield could actually deal with the black dragon.

"Of course." Phield waved his hand. "Get up here. Don’t let the current sweep you away later."

Once everything was ready, Phield compared the minimap with the physical map and marked the exact location of the corrupted black dragon for everyone.

"Hit the spot where I throw the marker! Give it everything you’ve got!" Phield shouted.

"Got it! Corrupted Dragon Guard, charge!"

Rosalia’s corrupted dragon suddenly spread its wings. Its enormous wings, powerful enough to suppress heaven and earth, glowed with dazzling runes as they began frantically gathering divine power and gray mist.

The surrounding gray mist swirled like a vortex before being compressed into the dragon’s wings. Gray-white light began glowing inside its chest, surging toward its neck and jaws as its terrifying breath attack continued to condense and accumulate power.

"Although my dragon can’t fly, the trade-off is overwhelming destructive power." Rosalia also began charging Lotus Endless Severance.

"Hmph. I won’t let myself be underestimated either."

Firomina unleashed her tremendous divine power.

"This aura is..." Violet’s pupils trembled violently.

The world suddenly plunged into darkness.

Firomina raised one finger and pointed.

"Second-Order Divine Skill, Primordial Extinction!"

A black beam shot straight through the heavens and pierced the filthy lake water.

It struck the corrupted black dragon beneath the surface with pinpoint accuracy.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

Caught completely off guard, the corrupted black dragon didn’t even have time to gather its energy for defense before its skull was blasted to pieces. The surrounding corpses were still submerged in the water, yet they were instantly burned to ash.

"ROAR!"

The sound was like a train blasting its horn while passing through a tunnel.

The tremendous roar shook the entire lake, and the stagnant, motionless water finally began to flow.

A colossal creature had been awakened.

It let out a miserable roar as it surged up from the depths. Water cascaded from its body like a waterfall, with countless corrupted corpses hanging from the black dragon’s body.

Even without a head, the black dragon continued to move under the power of corruption. Losing its head was merely a fatal injury.

"Hehe. I’ve been waiting for you."

Rosalia, who had been holding herself back until she was practically bursting, swung her sword with all her strength.

"Third-Order Divine Skill, Lotus Endless Severance!"

At the same time, the corrupted dragon unleashed its devastating breath.

A massive torrent of gray-white energy, as thick as an entire building, erupted forward with overwhelming force.

It had accumulated so much energy that the blast tore apart its own mouth and throat in the process.

Even more terrifyingly, the corrupted dragon swung its claw and unleashed another Lotus Endless Severance.

Three peak-level attacks struck the corrupted black dragon simultaneously.

The poor creature hadn’t even had time to gather its strength for defense.

Violet’s vision suddenly turned completely white.

The explosion was so deafening that she couldn’t hear anything at all. All that remained was the constant ringing in her ears.

"Bzzzz..."

When she opened her eyes again, Violet saw a towering hillside in the distance struck by the lingering shockwave of the sword energy.

The mountain collapsed instantly, and every tree was shattered.

The corrupted black dragon, reduced to barely half its original body, hadn’t even managed to stand before it was blasted into pieces and collapsed to the ground.

"What kind of terrifying power is that? That was a corrupted black dragon! Impossible. This is impossible!"

Violet no longer knew how to describe the sheer shock overwhelming her.

"Don’t get too excited. This is only the beginning. We still have a whole pile of lesser corrupted corpses to deal with."

"Follow the course of the river, Firomina. Bombard everything!" Phield issued his orders rapidly. "We’re a little short on firepower, so hurry it up."
