The silence followed them all the way back.

Eric was the first to break.

"Okay."

Everyone looked at him.

"What exactly does that mean?"

Damien continued walking.

"What?"

"You said Noah smells different."

Damien glanced at him.

"I did."

"And then you refused to explain."

"There isn’t much to explain."

Sophia crossed her arms.

"Then explain what you can."

Damien stopped.

The group stopped with him.

His gaze moved toward Noah.

Noah already knew he wasn’t going to like whatever came next.

"It isn’t a physical smell."

Eric blinked.

"Then why call it a smell?"

"Because that’s the closest description."

Sophia frowned.

Luna remained quiet.

Laura’s attention stayed fixed on Noah.

Damien continued.

"It’s like mana."

Noah’s expression changed.

"But different."

"What do you mean?" Luna asked.

Damien looked toward the distant streets of Hildgard.

"Everyone has a presence."

He raised one hand slightly.

"Mana. Intent. Aura."

Then his eyes returned to Noah.

"Yesterday, yours felt normal."

Noah didn’t like the word normal either.

"And now?"

Damien was silent.

Noah waited.

Finally, Damien answered.

"Now it feels like something is standing behind you."

Nobody laughed.

Not even Eric.

A cold sensation moved through Noah’s body.

Inside his head—

That’s an interesting way of describing me.

Noah’s jaw tightened.

Laura immediately noticed.

"Noah?"

"I’m fine."

Sophia closed her eyes.

"One day, I’m actually going to hit you every time you say that."

Eric nodded.

"I’ll help."

"Shut up."

That at least made Luna smile.

The tension loosened.

But Noah knew Damien was still watching him.

And that bothered him.

Because Damien hadn’t been wrong.

Later that afternoon, Noah found himself sitting alone near one of the quieter gardens inside the academy district.

Tall trees surrounded the stone pathways.

Small magical lights floated between the branches.

Students passed through occasionally, but nobody approached him.

For once, Noah was grateful.

He leaned back against a stone bench.

"Something standing behind me..."

The words wouldn’t leave his head.

A quiet laugh answered.

He has good instincts.

Noah opened his eyes.

"Stop doing that."

Doing what?

"Talking when I don’t want you to."

Then don’t listen.

Noah’s eye twitched.

"You make absolutely no sense."

Neither do you.

Noah went silent.

The voice continued.

You feel something changing inside you.

You see your rank changing.

You lose consciousness while standing in the middle of a street.

A pause.

Yet you still tell everyone that you’re fine.

Noah clenched his hands.

"Shut up."

There it is again.

Noah stood.

His shadow stretched behind him.

Longer than it should have.

He looked down.

It was normal.

For now.

"Talking to yourself?"

Noah turned.

Laura stood several meters away.

He sighed.

"Do people in this academy have a hobby of appearing behind me?"

Laura approached.

"Maybe you’re just easy to find."

"I was trying to be alone."

"I noticed."

Noah sat again.

Laura hesitated before sitting beside him.

For several seconds, neither spoke.

The garden was quiet.

Strangely peaceful.

Laura looked ahead.

"You don’t have to tell me."

Noah glanced toward her.

"What?"

"Whatever is happening."

Noah frowned.

Laura folded her hands together.

"I know you’re hiding something."

He looked away.

"But I’m not going to force you."

The words caught him off guard.

Noah expected questions.

Sophia would ask.

Eric would probably make jokes.

Damien would stare until Noah became uncomfortable.

But Laura simply sat there.

No pressure.

No demands.

Noah lowered his gaze.

"I don’t know how to explain it."

Laura looked toward him.

For the first time that day, Noah’s expression looked genuinely tired.

"I don’t even understand it myself."

Laura remained quiet.

Then she nodded.

"Then don’t explain it yet."

Noah looked at her.

Laura gave him a small smile.

"When you understand it..."

Her voice became softer.

"...you can tell me."

For a moment, Noah didn’t answer.

Something inside him became strangely quiet.

Then—

She trusts you too easily.

Noah’s expression hardened.

Laura noticed.

"What?"

"Nothing."

Laura stared at him.

Noah sighed.

"Seriously. Nothing."

She didn’t believe him.

But she didn’t push.

Across Hildgard, beneath the shadow of one of the ancient towers, another student stood alone.

Alcris.

His eyes remained fixed on the academy district in the distance.

He hadn’t returned to his academy since morning.

His perception was restless.

Every few minutes—

He felt it again.

That strange presence.

Noah Blackwood.

Alcris slowly closed his eyes.

The memory returned.

The tournament.

The strange power.

That sensation.

It didn’t feel like ordinary mana.

It felt older.

Colder.

And dangerous.

Alcris opened his eyes.

"Who are you?"

The question was no longer casual curiosity.

Something about Noah irritated him.

No.

That wasn’t right.

What irritated Alcris was the fact that he couldn’t understand him.

Alcris had spent years understanding power.

Measuring it.

Controlling it.

Surpassing it.

But Noah—

Noah made no sense.

An F-Rank student shouldn’t possess that kind of presence.

Shouldn’t survive certain situations.

Shouldn’t make Alcris’s perception react.

His gaze shifted toward the heart of Hildgard.

An ancient building stood far away.

Its towers reached toward the evening sky.

Milstrif Library.

Alcris narrowed his eyes.

If Hildgard had answers...

That was where he would find them.

He turned and began walking.

Night arrived.

Noah returned to his room.

For once, he felt exhausted enough to sleep.

He didn’t bother turning on the main lights.

He simply dropped onto his bed.

"Don’t talk to me."

A moment passed.

Then—

Sleep well, Noah.

Noah’s eyes snapped open.

The voice sounded almost amused.

"I said don’t talk."

You should have listened to yourself earlier.

Noah sat up.

"What does that mean?"

Silence.

His expression darkened.

"Hey."

Nothing.

Noah waited.

Still nothing.

Eventually, exhaustion won.

He lay back down.

His eyes slowly closed.

Darkness.

Noah opened his eyes.

He was standing.

Not in his room.

There was no room.

No ceiling.

No floor.

Only an endless black world.

Noah slowly turned.

"Seriously?"

His voice echoed into nothingness.

No answer.

Then—

THUMP.

Something moved.

Noah froze.

THUMP.

Closer.

A faint crimson line appeared in the distance.

Then another.

And another.

The darkness split apart.

Noah took a step back.

A figure emerged.

Tall.

Human-shaped.

But its face remained hidden.

Only two eyes were visible.

Deep.

Cold.

Violent.

Noah clenched his fists.

"Ragnarok Dead Zone."

The figure stopped.

For several seconds, neither moved.

Then the figure tilted its head.

So you’ve finally come looking.

Noah stared.

"I didn’t come here willingly."

The figure smiled.

That’s the difference between us.

Noah narrowed his eyes.

"What?"

The figure slowly stepped forward.

The darkness beneath its feet trembled.

You keep trying to escape me.

Another step.

While I’ve been waiting for you to enter.

Noah’s heartbeat slowed.

His fists tightened.

"Enter what?"

The crimson eyes brightened.

And the figure smiled wider.

The place where you stop pretending you’re in control.

The darkness beneath Noah’s feet suddenly collapsed.

CRACK—!

Noah fell.

The black world swallowed him whole.

And somewhere far above—

Ragnarok Dead Zone watched.
