The second day of Individual Combat continued beneath Hildgard’s strange afternoon sky.

Noah had barely left the arena floor before another match was announced.

One academy after another sent their strongest contestants forward.

Some fights lasted seconds.

Others left cracks across the battlefield.

The tournament was beginning to reveal its true nature.

Talent alone wasn’t enough.

Experience mattered.

Control mattered.

And sometimes...

The ability to stay standing mattered most.

Noah sat in the Valhalla section while a medic examined his shoulder.

"Hold still."

"I’m holding still."

"You’re moving."

"I’m breathing."

"Then breathe less."

Noah stared at the medic.

Eric burst out laughing.

Laura covered her mouth.

Even Luna smiled faintly.

Damien shook his head.

"Your recovery time is surprisingly short."

Noah looked at him.

"Is that good?"

"Normally."

Damien glanced toward the battlefield.

"But your energy output is another matter."

Noah’s expression became serious.

He knew what Damien meant.

Ragnarok.

He still didn’t understand what had happened during his fight with Jordan.

The voice had appeared again.

For only a moment.

But it had been clearer.

Let me out.

Noah didn’t like hearing it.

Not at all.

The announcer’s voice suddenly echoed through the arena.

"The next match will feature Valhalla Academy!"

The Valhalla section erupted.

Noah looked toward the battlefield.

Then the name appeared above the arena.

LAURA ESTERIA

Eric immediately stood.

"Let’s go, Laura!"

Laura looked back at them.

Eric cupped his hands around his mouth.

"DESTROY THEM!"

Laura laughed.

"I’ll try."

She stepped onto the battlefield.

Her opponent entered from the opposite side.

A young woman from Skadi Academy.

Her name was Astrid Veyr.

Long pale hair.

Sharp blue eyes.

A pair of short frost blades rested at her sides.

The crowd reacted immediately.

Skadi was known for producing fighters specializing in cold-based techniques.

Astrid raised one blade.

"Good luck."

Laura drew her weapon.

"You too."

The referee stepped between them.

"Begin."

Astrid moved first.

Ice spread beneath her feet.

She accelerated.

Laura blocked the first strike.

CLANG!

The second came immediately.

Then the third.

Laura stepped backward.

Astrid’s movements were fast.

Precise.

Every step left a thin layer of frost behind.

Laura twisted aside.

A blade passed inches from her face.

She countered.

CLANG!

Astrid blocked.

The two separated.

The crowd cheered.

Laura’s violet eyes narrowed.

Astrid smiled.

"You’re good."

Laura raised her weapon.

"So are you."

Astrid slammed her foot into the ground.

A wave of ice rushed forward.

Laura jumped.

The ice rose behind her like a wall.

Astrid appeared above it.

She swung downward.

Laura crossed her weapon against the strike.

BOOM!

The impact sent Laura crashing toward the ground.

She landed on one knee.

A thin cut appeared across her cheek.

Noah stood.

"Laura."

She looked toward him.

For a second, their eyes met.

Then Laura smiled.

"I’m fine."

Noah sat back down.

But his hands remained clenched.

Astrid attacked again.

Laura waited.

One second.

Two.

Then...

She moved.

Her body slipped past Astrid’s strike.

Laura turned.

Her weapon struck the flat of Astrid’s blade.

The frost weapon flew from her hand.

Astrid’s eyes widened.

Laura’s blade stopped beside her neck.

Silence.

The referee raised his hand.

"Winner: Laura Esteria of Valhalla Academy!"

The Valhalla section erupted.

Eric jumped.

"YES!"

Sophia smiled.

Luna quietly clapped.

Noah smiled.

Laura lowered her weapon.

Then she looked toward the Elementro section.

Daniela was watching.

Again.

Laura’s smile disappeared.

After the match, Laura returned to the corridor beneath the arena.

She expected Noah to be waiting.

Instead...

Daniela stood there.

The two girls stopped.

Neither spoke.

Daniela eventually smiled.

"Congratulations."

"Thank you."

Laura continued walking.

Then stopped.

She turned.

"Can I ask you something?"

Daniela nodded.

"Sure."

Laura’s eyes sharpened.

"You keep watching me."

Daniela didn’t deny it.

"I do."

"Why?"

Daniela considered the question.

"Because there’s something unusual about you."

Laura’s expression hardened.

"And Noah?"

Daniela’s eyes shifted slightly.

"Especially Noah."

Laura stepped closer.

"What exactly are you looking for?"

Daniela smiled faintly.

"I don’t know yet."

That answer irritated Laura.

"You keep saying that."

"Because it’s true."

Daniela looked directly into her violet eyes.

"I can see how people’s power develops."

She paused.

"But with Noah..."

Her expression became thoughtful.

"I can’t see where it ends."

Laura remained silent.

Daniela continued.

"And with you..."

She tilted her head.

"There’s something else."

Laura’s fingers tightened around her weapon.

"What?"

Daniela smiled.

"That’s what I’d like to find out."

For several seconds, neither moved.

Then Laura quietly said:

"Stay away from Noah."

Daniela’s smile disappeared.

"Why?"

"Because I don’t know what you’re planning."

Daniela looked at her.

"I’m not planning anything."

"Then stop looking at him."

Daniela’s eyes narrowed.

"That’s something I can’t promise."

The corridor suddenly felt colder.

Not because of magic.

Because both girls had stopped pretending this was a casual conversation.

Daniela stepped forward.

Laura didn’t move.

Neither attacked.

Not yet.

But something had begun.

And both of them knew it.

The corridor remained silent after Daniela’s last words.

Laura stared at her.

Neither girl moved.

The distant roar of the arena barely reached them through the thick walls.

Finally, Laura lowered her weapon.

"You’re strange."

Daniela smiled.

"I’ve been told that."

"You don’t seem worried about what people think."

"I care."

Daniela turned toward the arena.

"I just don’t let other people’s opinions decide what I investigate."

Laura’s expression remained guarded.

"And Noah?"

Daniela looked at her.

"What about him?"

"You’ve been watching his fights."

"Yes."

"You analyzed his power."

"Yes."

"And now you’re analyzing me."

Daniela nodded.

"Also yes."

Laura sighed.

"At least you’re honest."

"I don’t see a reason to lie."

Daniela walked past her.

Then stopped.

"Besides..."

She glanced back.

"I don’t think you’re the one I need to worry about."

Laura’s eyes narrowed.

"What does that mean?"

Daniela smiled.

"I haven’t figured that out yet."

Then she left.

Laura remained in the corridor.

She didn’t like Daniela.

Not because Daniela was arrogant.

Not because she was hostile.

Because she was observant.

Too observant.

Laura looked toward the arena.

"Noah..."

Inside the Valhalla waiting area, Noah was talking with Eric.

"You saw that?"

Eric grinned.

"Of course I saw it."

Noah frowned.

"She was incredible."

"You’re talking about Laura, right?"

"Obviously."

Eric laughed.

"You should’ve seen your face."

"What about it?"

"You looked like you were more nervous than Laura."

Noah rolled his eyes.

"I was watching the fight."

"Sure."

Eric nudged him.

"Just admit you’re worried about her."

Noah sighed.

"She’s my teammate."

"That’s not what I asked."

Noah opened his mouth.

Then closed it.

Eric laughed.

"Exactly."

Noah shook his head.

"You’re annoying."

"That’s my specialty."

For a few seconds, they laughed.

Then Eric’s expression became serious.

"You really okay after your fight?"

Noah nodded.

"Yeah."

"No weird eye thing?"

"No."

"Good."

Eric smiled.

"Because I’ve seen enough weird things today."

Noah looked at him.

"Like what?"

Eric pointed toward the arena.

"That guy from Niflheim who turned into smoke."

Noah laughed.

"Fair."

Their conversation continued normally.

No hidden agenda.

No grand revelation.

Just two friends talking.

And Noah appreciated that more than he realized.

A bell suddenly rang throughout the arena.

The next match was being announced.

The giant projection changed.

MILGARD ACADEMY

KAEL MORDREN

vs.

VOLSTRA ACADEMY

REN VARIS

The crowd erupted.

Damien looked toward the battlefield.

"That’s going to be interesting."

Noah stood.

Kael Mordren walked into the arena carrying his massive black spear.

Across from him, Ren Varis entered quietly.

The referee raised her hand.

"Begin."

Kael disappeared.

BOOM!

His spear struck the ground where Ren had been standing.

Ren moved behind him.

Kael turned.

His spear swept sideways.

Ren ducked.

The battle became a blur of movement.

Noah watched carefully.

Kael wasn’t simply strong.

His movements were deliberate.

Every attack forced his opponent toward a specific position.

Damien noticed it too.

"He’s controlling the battlefield."

Noah nodded.

"He’s herding him."

Kael suddenly stopped.

Ren realized too late.

A spear strike launched him across the arena.

CRASH!

The crowd erupted.

Kael lowered his weapon.

"You’re predictable."

Ren struggled to stand.

Kael charged again.

This time...

Ren countered.

A burst of energy struck Kael in the chest.

Kael staggered.

The crowd gasped.

For the first time, the Milgard fighter looked surprised.

Then he smiled.

"Better."

He tightened his grip.

The spear began glowing.

Noah’s eyes narrowed.

"He’s getting serious."

The match continued for several minutes.

Eventually, Kael won.

But he didn’t celebrate.

He simply looked toward the other academies.

His eyes briefly landed on Noah.

Then he walked away.

Noah noticed.

Another strong fighter.

Another potential rival.

The tournament was filling with them.

Later that evening, Laura returned to the Valhalla residence.

Noah found her sitting beneath one of the divine trees.

He sat beside her.

"You’re quiet."

"So are you."

"Fair."

Laura looked at him.

"Daniela talked to me."

Noah’s expression changed.

"What did she say?"

"That she’s trying to understand your power."

Noah looked down.

"She doesn’t know."

"I know."

Laura paused.

"She also said there’s something unusual about me."

Noah looked at her.

"She noticed?"

Laura smiled faintly.

"Apparently."

Noah didn’t ask what she meant.

Instead, he looked up at the three moons.

"Maybe we should be careful."

Laura nodded.

"We should."

For a while, they sat together beneath the strange moonlight.

Neither knew that across Hildgard...

someone else was watching.

A figure stood on a distant rooftop.

A small black-orange glow flickered around his hand.

Joseph Yonder.

His eyes remained fixed on the Valhalla residence.

Then the glow disappeared.

He turned away.

The next event was approaching.

And his orders were becoming clearer.
