The first real problems didn’t come from inside the dungeon, but from outside, where the visitors were trying to arrange groups to start their runs.
To the Elders, especially the ones from the Blackwoods Pack, that was not a surprise at all. They knew perfectly well that most of these people couldn’t stand each other, or viewed each other as competition within their own Clans.
So, trying to get them to work together when they had overlapping interests was never going to be a clean and easy situation.
However, most of them had not expected that it would come to open combat in the city.
Not a prolonged combat. The security Golems stepped in after the first skill. But tensions were high, and if there hadn’t been a Supreme-Ranked wrath demon construct in a security outfit, they would have been repairing buildings.
"Alright, cut it out. We’re going to set up an arena ground for you all to sort out your differences," Karl shouted over the commotion.
Then, he conjured a small stone etched with runes and handed it to Leon.
"It’s a Pet Space, but I modified it for basic arena functions. Let them fight in there, but you’ll have to be the one to activate it, so everyone can use it."
Leon examined the stone, then handed it to Father Oak.
The old dragon smiled, and activated the space, creating a shining green portal at the side of the street.
Then he slipped the stone into his inventory, with absolutely zero intentions of giving it back.
Not that Karl would have asked, it was just a crude bit of stone with the [Pet Space] spell on it, and some runes describing an arena and a barrier. But in the hands of a Legendary green dragon, it would be so much more.
The Pet Space was designed to support the creature in it. So, when you made an arena, it came with snacks and liquor.
Guests could go and sit in the stands to watch the fight, but it was not a permanent facility like Karl knew they were going to have to make soon. But getting Oak’s dad to help them activate a proper arena facility in the city shouldn’t be too hard when the dragon was so clearly happy to have one for himself.
Come to think of it, while Runecrafting was common enough in the Darklight Host, the Pet Space spell was not.
It was highly specialized, so while Karl could duplicate the effect on a stone with a thought, trying to make the same thing without the spell would take a hundred times as many runes, and hours of hard work.
Even the Villa Stones that they sold at the store took significantly more work than this arena stone did, though that was mostly to set them up for training as well as safety.
The arena version would offer no such luxuries. There would be no enhanced mana regeneration, no bonus healing, nothing but the most essential parts of the Pet Space spell.
Sleeping and eating, plus a combat arena.
And even the "sleeping" function was just long stone benches in the bleachers that you could stretch out on if there wasn’t a crowd. Yet, in the hands of a Legendary Dragon, this was still an invulnerable fortress that the combatants would never manage to break.
The amount of damage reduction that Immortals would suffer against Legendary barriers was simply too much.
"Challengers inside the new Arena space. Fight out your differences, and then come back out when you can behave," Father Oak insisted.
None of them were going to argue with the Legendary Dragon, and those not involved in the fight were all interested to see what sort of fighting space he had made. None of them connected the stone that Karl had handed him to the space, they all assumed it was payment for his services.
"You can go in and watch, if you’d like. The space differentiates between fighters and spectators," the old dragon offered.
That brought a bunch of Elders rushing inside to see the fight.
The two who were fighting didn’t care. They were both convinced that they were going to win this battle, and neither was willing to give up so easily.
Duels were usually fought in front of witnesses, or there would be no point in calling them duels, after all.
Not as many as Karl expected went to watch the fight. More of them wanted to form groups to go in and try the dungeon. Many Clans had brought enough Elders for at least a five person run through the dungeon.
The issue was, as always, healers.
"I swear, none of these Clans ever considered that it might be good to have a healing skill in their repertoire. Alchemy is great, but healing potions don’t fully replace a healer." Karl muttered to himself as he watched the chaos.
"Should we call some over from the new Home? We’ve got a couple healing class Elders in the Pack, but that’s not going to go far." Elder Blackwoods suggested.
"Yeah, inform the Clan Leader, or the Pack Leader, as he’s likely with her.
It’s a great chance for the healers of the New Home to get some more experience and some rewards. They know that they have to be cautious and not come across too greedy in a group, or they’ll end up in the same chaos as these others. But passing up a high end dungeon is a lot to ask, and the New Home’s Elders have more healers than they need for ten person runs."
"Alright, I’ve messaged the Pack Leader. They’ll send people over right away. He says they are staying home, because Clan Leader Nerissa has, and I quote, {No intentions of dealing with this bullshit today.}
Karl laughed. "Understandable. I’m sure she already knows, she is close enough to clearly sense what happened.
Now, let’s go find Min to warn her before the warehouse gets crazy."
