The archive mouth opened around a page showing Kael beneath the gravity press they had broken. Its chamber looked older than the route around it. Shelves of black bone climbed the walls, packed with severance skins, witness nails, leech husks, silence thread, and jars of teeth clicking in pale fluid. At the far end, a mouth wider than a gate was carved into the wall, its lips made of paper flesh.
The teeth were bound record-organs. The tongue was a red carpet of names crossed out so often they had become texture. When the mouth breathed, old victories fluttered inside it like trapped birds.
Kael saw the Arrival Denial Body’s broken organ printed on one sheet. The page folded itself between the paper lips, and it came out blank. Vaela stopped beside him as the proof disappeared.
"I saw the broken organ before it swallowed the page," she said. "It is keeping the terror and removing everything we did to survive it."
The mouth smiled. Whispers filled the chamber while old victories changed shape in the air. The gravity press no longer looked broken beneath Kael’s hands, the Protocol Crown stood whole again, and the Arrival Denial Body closed around a wound the survivors remembered tearing open. Even Renn’s count cloth looked unfinished when he glanced down at it.
The workers flinched as memories tugged at them. Nothing vanished yet, but every memory blurred at the edges like scars seen through dirty water. Jaro clutched his own head. "I remember being terrified, and it should count for something." The archive mouth opened wider.
The mouth kept their fear and spat out the parts where they had survived. Kael walked toward it.
Kael needed Primordial Marrow Layer to keep the truth of his injuries inside his bones, while Metaphysical Resistance and Mind Soul Anchor held his memories against the mouth’s whispers. Cellular Acceleration would keep his damaged body moving while the chamber tried to make every old wound feel new.

The whispers reached into Kael’s memories, but Primordial Marrow Layer kept every healed fracture fixed inside his bones. Metaphysical Resistance pushed the false images away, Mind Soul Anchor held the order of what he had endured, and Cellular Acceleration heated his wounds as his body adjusted. The archive mouth snapped at the air when none of those truths came loose.
A sheet tore from Kael’s shadow. On it, Garron Voss still had a face. Kael stopped.
The mouth chewed. Garron’s skull fracture faded from the image. Kael’s eyes went flat.
He crossed the remaining distance while the shelves opened around him. Paper hands lunged from both sides, displaying pictures that turned dead workers into sleeping ones, roof eyes into harmless lamps, and the leeches that had eaten names into medicine. Kael grabbed the nearest shelf and ripped it from the wall.
CRASH!
Bone shelves collapsed, jars shattered, and loose teeth chattered across the floor.
Orrek stomped on them.
CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH!
"Let the mouth chew those," he growled as the last tooth broke under his heel.
Vaela cut along the left wall before folded skins could cover the survivors’ faces. One showed Renn silent, another showed Jaro dead, and a third showed Orrek kneeling. She cut the third one twice.
SLICE! SLICE!
Jaro found a page showing him brave and stared at it with suspicion. "If this expects anyone to believe I looked fearless, the mouth has started lying badly."
The archive mouth inhaled, and every loose page flew toward it. Renn’s count cloth lifted with them, its knots snapping toward the paper lips, so he wrapped it around his wrist and dug in his heels. The boy with the cracked bowl seized the other end before two workers caught the cloth behind him.
Twenty-one people held the cloth as the mouth sucked harder. Kael reached its tongue of crossed-out names and drove his foot into it.
CRACK!
Names split under his heel, and red blood welled from the tongue. When the mouth tried to bite him in half, Kael caught its upper lip with both hands despite the paper flesh cutting his fingers.
Every page in the chamber screamed at once.
SCREECH!
The scream came from paper, teeth, jars, shelves, and the mouth’s wet throat. Kael pulled down until the upper lip stretched and the paper flesh began to split.
The mouth bit his shoulder, and its bound teeth sank through cloth into flesh. The picture spreading across the nearest page showed the wound already present before the bite. Kael saw the lie, leaned deeper into the jaws, and raised his knee.
He drove his knee upward into the lower jaw.
BOOM!
Record-organ teeth cracked. He hit again.
CRACK!
Kael struck again.
CRUNCH!
The lower jaw broke open, and red fluid poured over Kael. The mouth tried to hide the rupture before anyone could see it, but Impact Witness Sovereignty flickered inside him and kept the damage visible.
Renn pointed at the hanging bone. "The jaw is broken, and it cannot hide the split!"
The mouth gagged on his words. Kael shoved both arms into the broken jaw and grabbed the tongue of crossed-out names. He pulled.
RIP!
The tongue tore free in a long red sheet, spilling the names of dead workers, enemies, and people erased so long ago that their letters resembled wounds. Pale shelves returned along the walls while teeth slid toward the jaw and black thread stitched the torn lip. Vaela raised her blade.
"It kept copies of itself," Vaela said as black thread pulled the torn lip together. "Break whatever returns before it becomes solid."
Jaro backed away from a shelf growing through his sleeve. "I preferred it broken." Kael stepped on the severed tongue before the shelf could harden.
CRACK!
Renn knelt and picked up a page with shaking hands. It showed Kael beneath the gravity press, crushed and bleeding but still refusing to die.
"This page kept the blood and the broken press," Renn said. "It shows what actually happened."
The archive mouth lunged for it. Orrek put his body between the page and the mouth. The upper jaw slammed into his back.
THUD!
Orrek’s knees hit the floor, and his ruined shoulder gave a wet crack, but he held until Kael pulled the upper jaw away from his spine.
CRACK!
The jaw split wider. Teeth-record-organs fell around Orrek like broken tablets. Some still clicked, trying to revise the impact into a voluntary kneel. Orrek grabbed one and crushed it against the floor.
"You had the shoulder once," Orrek said, grinding the tooth beneath his palm. "I am keeping what remains of it."
Renn passed the true page to the boy, who gave it to the burned woman before it passed through twenty-one hands. The pale shelves blurred as each survivor saw what had happened. Vaela pointed to the other pages. "Pass every page through the line. The mouth cannot change a wound all of us have seen." Proof of the Protocol Crown rupture, Arrival Break, Witness Hunger mouth, Record leech queen, and Uncounting record organ travelled through the line while Kael and Orrek held the jaws apart.
The archive tried to bite down on their arms. Kael allowed the teeth to touch his forearm before he flexed against them.
CRUNCH!
Teeth broke against Kael’s forearm and Orrek’s braced shoulder while the true pages kept moving.
When the last page returned to Renn, the pale shelves collapsed. Kael released the jaw, and the chamber folded inward around a throat clogged with stolen pages.
Pages fluttered toward the dead mouth. Renn stepped on one before it reached the teeth and found his count cloth drawn as something stolen from the route. He tore the page in half.
RIP!
Vaela kept cutting while Orrek crushed a page showing his shoulder beneath the old hooks. Jaro found a picture of the chamber with every survivor present except him.
"It forgot me," he said. "I have been loud enough to deserve better."
He fed it to the broken mouth and kicked the jaw shut on it.
The archive mouth convulsed and coughed.
COUGH!
Pages flew from its throat carrying the gravity press, the Protocol Crown, the Arrival Denial Body, Renn’s count, the bowl, the blood, and the broken doors. Kael dropped the tongue at his feet.
The mouth tried to close around one final page. He punched through its palate.
SPLIT!
The archive mouth died open. Kael left the torn tongue on the floor so every survivor could walk past the crossed-out names and see what had been beneath their feet.
Renn counted the living beside the dead names.
"All twenty-one are still here," Renn said.
The number sounded hard, but every living person answered by looking toward Renn.
Fresh blood now ran through the chamber’s ancient dust. Kael could see which teeth had struck Orrek and which pages had lied about the survivors. Vaela nudged a shelf fragment with her boot. "It remembered every wound and forgot the people who survived them."
Renn held the true page against his chest. "I will carry this until everyone can remember the press without its help." Jaro gathered the pages that still showed living faces. Kael walked through the paper flesh without stepping around it.
Behind them, the open mouth sagged around pages it had failed to swallow. Kael left the proof caught between its teeth where anyone entering the chamber could see who had killed it.
A few pages still crawled toward the dead mouth. The boy stepped on one while pressing the bowl beneath his arm, and the paper stopped moving under his bare heel.
The workers stepped over paper flesh and broken teeth while Renn kept the true page visible. The proof had passed through twenty-one hands, and they carried it out with them.
