The concussive croak vibrated straight through Azriel’s jaw, rattling his teeth within his skull.

The low-frequency sound wave tore across the water, sending churning sheets of bubbling acid splashing against the surrounding basalt pillars.

Azriel looked at the bloated, slime-dripping abomination and grimaced, a look of pure disgust washing over his face.

"Goddess... what an ugly fucker."

As if grasping the insult, the Caustic Mire-Toad flared in rabid outrage. It didn’t waste a single heartbeat.

Tensing its massive, rubbery hind legs, the eight-meter monstrosity launched itself into the air like a grotesque, blubbery meteor.

[Warning: Boss Skill Casting - Seismic Slam!]

A suffocating shadow engulfed the shoreline as nearly twenty tons of muscle, bone, and corrosive fat plummeted directly toward Azriel’s position.

BOOOOOOM!

The entire stone shelf fractured upon impact, collapsing into the boiling green lake in a violent spray of steam and pulverized rock.

Azriel wasn’t there.

Anticipating the descent through Warrior’s Instinct, he had already vaulted outward over the open boiling water.

Mid-air, Azriel flicked his right wrist, launching the crescent sickle toward a narrow basalt pillar ten paces away.

CLINK!

The curved steel hooked the stone edge with pinpoint accuracy.

Hauling back on the taut chain, Azriel swung gracefully through the air, carving a clean arc past the erupting shockwave before sticking a light, balanced landing atop the pillar.

Even as the stone trembled, a strange sensation washed over him.

Compared to the desperate, bone-breaking struggle against the Alpha Wolf earlier, his movements felt astonishingly fluid.

His body wasn’t lagging behind his instincts, his muscles responded with effortless precision, as if his body had already calibrated and adapted to high-tier boss encounters.

SSSSS—!

The Mire-Toad squatted in the smoking crater of the ruined shoreline, its Corrosive Slime Coat hissing violently as it melted the dense bedrock beneath its webbed feet into bubbling slag.

Azriel smirked down at the beast, effortlessly twirling the iron chain.

"Bro, I was just stating a fact, you really are ugly as fuck. And we literally just met, and you’re already dropping ultimate skills? Shouldn’t we start with some warm-ups first? Test the waters, trade a few basic hits?"

The toad responded with a guttural, furious croak.

Rotating its bulbous, milky-yellow eyes toward Azriel’s isolated pillar, the pustules across its hunched back flared with a blinding, toxic violet radiance.

[Warning: Boss Skill Casting - Acidic Cataclysm!]

SPLOOSH— SPLOOSH— SPLOOSH!

Six geysers of superheated acid erupted violently from the boiling depths around Azriel’s platform, hissing with venomous heat as they melted the stone column from the base up.

"Fuck... Man up, brother, be proud of yourself! Don’t get so easily angered!"

Azriel uncoiled the full twenty feet of heavy iron chain and snapped his left wrist into a blistering reverse figure-eight.

WHUUU-WHUUU-WHUUU!

The heavy iron fundo blurred into a humming, vertical vortex of pressurized air.

The sheer rotational kinetic force generated a localized barrier, deflecting the airborne spray and blasting the toxic mist safely outward into the lake.

Yet the sheer density of the acidic deluge overwhelmed the makeshift barrier.

A thick globule of concentrated, boiling bile slipped past the spinning chain, splashing straight across Azriel’s right shoulder and collarbone.

TCH— SSSSS!

The reinforced combat leather hissed and dissolved in seconds, the caustic fluid searing directly into his flesh.

A blinding, white-hot agony flared across his nerves as the skin blistered and charred black.

Gritting his teeth through the searing burn, Azriel’s boots slipped on the corroding platform.

Yet instead of recoiling, a sharp, mocking grin cut across his face.

"Is that all? My mother-in-law hits harder than you, you overgrown lump of rancid pudding!"

The toad didn’t let him breathe.

Enraged by the taunts, the beast whipped its thick, muscular tongue outward like a fleshy spear, the barbed tip aimed straight to impale his sternum and drag him into the lake.

SHHK— THWACK!

Azriel leaned back into a razor-thin limbo dodge.

The projectile tongue grazed his jaw by millimeters, smashing into the basalt pillar behind him and snapping the stone spire clean in half.

CLINK!

Instead of retreating, Azriel clamped his left hand down, stepping hard onto the overextended tongue to pin it against the shattered stone with all his weight.

"Look at you, offering your tongue on a silver platter! What, trying to get a kiss, ugly? You’re not my type!"

In the same breath, he whipped the crescent sickle downward in a reverse grip, driving the curved blade clean through the meaty muscle to anchor it to the rock.

SPLAT!

CROAAAAAAAAAAAAAK—!

The Mire-Toad shrieked in outrage as its tongue was pinned.

In a blind frenzy, it thrashed its massive skull backward to wrench itself free, dragging Azriel along the rock face.

Azriel didn’t fight the pull.

"Thanks for the free ride, fat ass!"

He used the beast’s own retracting recoil like a slingshot, ripping the sickle free and launching himself airborne directly toward the monster’s front flank.

BOOM!

Mid-flight, the toad’s massive, webbed foreleg swiped horizontally like a falling log.

Azriel brought the iron chain up in a tight double-wrap around his gauntlets, absorbing the blunt force mid-air.

The concussive impact rattled his ribs, sending him skidding violently across the central island’s slick bedrock for ten meters before he dug his sickle into the stone to halt his momentum.

Yet even as he skidded, he noted how quickly he re-centered his balance.

Against the wolf, a blow like that had fractured bone, heightened reflex threshold absorbed the shock with barely a pause.

FWOOOOOOOOO—

The cavern’s humid air rushed violently inward.

Realizing physical strikes were failing, the Mire-Toad planted its splayed feet into the bedrock.

Its warty throat began to expand at an alarming rate, ballooning to three times its original volume as it siphoned hundreds of gallons of boiling acid and raw ambient aether into its gullet.

[Warning: Boss Passive Active - Caustic Inhalation!]

That’s the opening.

Standard slashes against its rubbery outer hide were reduced by 40%, but the overstretched membrane of that glowing emerald sac was paper-thin.

Still, the beast wasn’t an easy mark. Its massive flank muscles coiled, locking down its stance to prevent any frontal approach while the acid within its chest reached critical boiling point.

"Look at that bloated throat! What are you trying to do, inflate yourself so someone finally mistakes you for a balloon?!" Azriel yelled over the howling vortex of air.

"Don’t choke on your own hot air, buddy!"

Azriel didn’t hesitate.

Deep within his core, the fire of his bloodline violently answered the call.

[Active Bloodline Skill Activated: Shadow-Strike Ardor (Lv. 2)]

The blistering burn on his shoulder went completely numb as translucent crimson blood-flames wrapped around his limbs, intertwining with the pitch-black, flickering shadows of the abyssal strike.

WHIRRRRR—!

Instead of rushing the front of the expanding throat, Azriel spun the fundo weight and launched the dense iron sphere clean over the monster’s left shoulder, aiming into the cavern roof behind it.

CLANG!

The iron links whipped three tight coils around a massive, hanging obsidian stalactite directly above the beast’s blind angle.

With a brutal yank on the iron chain, Azriel harnessed the speed boost from Shadow-Strike Ardor.

He launched himself like a shadow-clad bullet, riding the kinetic arc clean over the charging wave of caustic heat.

Mid-flight, he released the chain tension and kicked off the taut links, performing a tight aerial corkscrew that dropped him right behind the toad’s massive, unarmored nape.

"Let me help you swallow that!"

As the Mire-Toad reached maximum inhalation, tilting its colossal skull back to unleash an apocalyptic flood of acid across the entire area, Azriel dropped like a falling executioner.

Reversing his grip on the crescent sickle, he channeled the full back-strike multiplier and the raw torque of Ardor’s Ignition into his downward strike.

SHRRRRK— CRACK!

The flame-shrouded crescent blade plunged straight down into the taut, glowing skin of the swollen vocal sac, slicing through the pressurized membrane like hot steel through silk.

"CROOOO— GLUB?!"

The hundreds of gallons of pressurized acid and volatile aether trapped inside the sac ruptured violently inward.

BOOOOOOOOOOM!

Unable to vent the breath attack, the Acidic Cataclysm detonated directly inside the toad’s own chest cavity.

A blinding shockwave of emerald and abyssal black fire blew outward, violently tearing the monster’s lower jaw, lungs, and spinal column apart from the inside.

Azriel rode the concussive recoil of the detonation, flipping backward through the billowing black smoke and landing firmly on the central basalt shelf with a controlled slide.

Behind him, the twenty-ton carcass collapsed lifelessly into the boiling lake with a massive, steaming SPLAT, sending ripples of inert grey sludge washing against the jagged rock.

He lowered his kusarigama with a crisp metallic rattle.

The shadowy abyssal flames slowly receded from the steel, but his violet eyes blazed with electric vigor, he was riding a euphoric, post-battle high, genuinely surprised by how much smoother and easier this fight had felt compared to his previous near-death duel with the wolf.

A silver blur tore through the settling mist, and Vesperia materialized directly before him, hands on her hips as she raised an amused, critical brow.

"What on earth was that?" she asked, a smoky lilt in her voice.

"What was what?"
