If a Dao Lord swore on one of their pathways, they would lose that pathway if they broke the oath. Not only would the Supreme Metac of that pathway collapse within them, but they would never be able to recover that pathway because every Supreme Metac of the same type will never work with them.

So to swear on a pathway and break that oath is to be alienated from that pathway forever. The same will happen if the Dao Lord swears on all of their pathways and breaks the oath.

This is why swearing on their Dao is greater than swearing on a single Dao or pathway. A Dao Lord that breaks an oath that they swore on their Dao will lose all of their pathways and will never be able to become a Dao Lord.

But at the top of it all is swearing on one’s Dao Heart. If one were to break this kind of oath, they would lose their minds and become a shell of themselves.
