The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered
Chapter 124 - 123: Separate TrainingThe members of the Anomalous Abilities Unit, who had been dead tired from the 100 push-ups they just did, instantly felt revived.
They couldn’t help but break out in a collective cheer, earning them a host of envious, jealous, and hateful stares.
If looks could kill, they probably would have been flayed alive eight hundred times over in that single moment.
Everyone’s minds were racing, all trying to think of a request that would make their instructor seriously regret her offer.
Stanley Sutton was the first to regain his composure. "Instructor, I think our team needs to discuss this first. Can we have a rain check on that request?"
Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "You can. The offer is valid until the end of the training program."
’Well, fine. What can I do? It was my own cousin who asked.’
’If it had been anyone else, heh, I would’ve smacked them down.’
’Take it or leave it. The offer’s not going to wait for you. Who do you think you are?’
"Woohoo! Thank you, Instructor!! Long live the Instructor!!!"
Yvonne Lowell raised a hand, gesturing for them to quiet down. "Keep it down. Your joy is disturbing them."
The Anomalous Abilities Unit obediently shut their mouths, but they couldn’t hide the smug looks in their eyes.
Gray Wolf, Dragon’s Ascent, and Snow Phoenix: ’You really didn’t need to say that...’
...
「The next morning.」
After completing their basic physical training, the squad members stood at attention on the training field, silently awaiting the next round of fresh torture (not really).
Yvonne Lowell and Zachary Jacobs exchanged a glance before she addressed the group. "Starting today, after the morning physical training session, the Anomalous Abilities Unit will assemble at the training field on the opposite side. You will be training separately from the other three squads."
Everyone was stunned. ’What’s happening? Why the sudden change in the script? This part wasn’t in the original story.’
Stanley Sutton asked, "Instructor, what about you? Which group will you be leading?"
"I’ll be taking your unit. Instructor Ford and Instructor Hughes will handle the other three squads. Let’s not waste any more time. Follow me."
With that, she turned and started walking toward the training field on the other side.
The members of the Anomalous Abilities Unit froze for a second before quickly hurrying to catch up.
Before he left, Theodore Zane couldn’t resist trash-talking the other three squads.
"So long, everyone! Your little bro is off to bigger and better things! After all, the~ in~struc~tor~ doesn’t~ want~ you~ any~more~"
The three remaining squads were left staring at each other. ’Have we been orphaned? Did the instructor just abandon us like that? Was all our passion and dedication for nothing?’
Seeing the utterly dejected expressions on their faces, Zachary Jacobs chuckled and chided them.
"Would you look at yourselves! When she was training you, you all avoided her like the plague. Now you’re suddenly sad to see her go?"
Jasper Hayes gave him a reproachful look. "Instructor, how can you say that? Those are two completely different things!"
"All right, it’s not like you’ll never see her again. What’s with the long faces? Besides, the training plan was set in advance. And aren’t Instructor Ford and I easier to deal with than she is?"
But before they could answer, Zachary Jacobs’s laid-back demeanor vanished. In an instant, he was like a completely different person.
He blew the whistle hanging around his neck and barked in a stern voice, "Back to training! Push-up position, now!"
Dragon’s Ascent: ’...Uh, really? Is he *really* easier to deal with than her?’
Gray Wolf: ’I don’t know... I guess, maybe, probably, perhaps... he is...?’
Snow Phoenix: ’Haha, we’re so screwed. We just escaped the dragon’s den to fall into the tiger’s pit.’
Zachary Jacobs: ’Heh, you little brats. If this doesn’t break you, then I took that beating last night for nothing.’
...
「Meanwhile, with the Anomalous Abilities Unit.」
Yvonne Lowell stood with her hands clasped behind her back, observing the ten people standing at attention before her. She began to speak in a level voice.
"Superpower users are rare. You possess abilities that others can only dream of. But everything has two sides. The greater your power, the heavier the burden you must carry."
"This means the missions you’re sent on are often the most perilous."
"Aside from your last mission to Country X, you haven’t had any other full-unit deployments, have you?"
They all nodded.
"Correct. Even on the most difficult missions, no more than three superpower users are ever deployed at once. Do you know why?"
Seeing their silence, Yvonne Lowell wasn’t fazed and simply continued.
"The reason is quite simple. First, deploying more is often seen as overkill. Second, it’s about holding assets in reserve. Even if a mission fails, at least we can preserve some ’seeds’ and avoid a total wipeout."
"I know my words are harsh, but it’s the unvarnished, naked truth."
"Normally, you’re treated like a panacea, shuffled between different teams to provide support and backup."
"Perhaps you feel a bit smug when you see the envious or admiring looks from your comrades-in-arms. And in private, you’re all close, like brothers and sisters, joking and messing around."
"But has anyone ever told you this? Before any other squad deploys on a mission with one of you, their instructors drill one thing into their heads: if the mission goes south, they are to protect the superpower user’s life at all costs, even if it means sacrificing their entire team."
"That’s because your existence represents the nation’s highest level of combat strength. It shows just how precious you are. It isn’t easy to become a superpower user, but it’s even harder for the country to cultivate a powerful one."
Seeing the complex emotions on their faces—shame, regret, guilt—Yvonne Lowell chuckled softly.
"You are their strength, but are they not also yours? So, keep working hard to get stronger... my dear national treasures."
She didn’t give them much time to wallow in sentimentality. Yvonne Lowell clapped her hands.
"Alright, that concludes Instructor One’s little pep talk session. Time for training. Pair up and spar using your superpowers for thirty minutes. Don’t go overboard."
They were stunned for a moment, then looked at her with reproachful eyes.
’You call that a pep talk? Are you sure that wasn’t a public shaming?!’
’Who does that?! Getting us all depressed and then immediately starting training...’
Yvonne Lowell seemed not to notice their resentful glares and simply raised an eyebrow.
"What are you spacing out for? Do you want to go and bow your heads in thanks to your former partners? You can do that after training. After all, you’ve got a lot of people to thank, it’ll take a while."
"They won’t mind if you’re a little late with your apologies. But if you’re a second late to start training, I’ll be the one getting physical."
Everyone was already used to her shocking statements.
After finding their partners, they all took a deep breath and began to focus their spiritual power.
In the next moment, the training field devolved into utter chaos.
Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, Speed, Space, Thunder Element, Wind Element—you name it, they had it. It was a chaotic medley of superpowers.
Yvonne Lowell silently took a few steps back, worried about getting hit by non-existent flying feathers.
She stood to the side, carefully observing their movements to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
As soon as the thirty minutes were up, Yvonne Lowell called a stop right on cue.
