The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered
Chapter 132 - 131: Shared GloryStanley Sutton took out a photo. "Everyone, take a look. Have you noticed any evergreen trees planted near our camp?"
"I think there are a few in front of the instructor’s building, but that’s probably it, right? I remember the ones by the training grounds are all bare."
Jasper Hayes leaned in to look at the photo. "But this isn’t right. The building in the photo is just a bare shell. We’ve never been inside the instructor’s building, but from the outside, we can at least see that all the windows have glass."
Ryan Ford’s eyes narrowed slightly, a thought suddenly occurring to him.
"Remember that time we went into the mountains for the flag hunt? Near the endpoint on the back mountain, there were several spruce trees. And hidden behind them was a fairly short, abandoned building. I’m not sure exactly how many stories it was."
He came from a reconnaissance background, so his memory was a bit better than most. He tended to recall unusual geographical locations more clearly.
"Now that you mention it, I remember too. I know that building. It’s three and a half stories tall, the most run-down abandoned building you can imagine."
Stanley Sutton gave him a suspicious look. "Old Man Farrow said it was hidden by trees. How do you know so much about it? Did you go inside?"
Jasper Hayes cleared his throat. "It was because of Miles. He couldn’t hold it when we got back there and asked me to come with him while he took a leak. I just glanced at the building then, but I didn’t go inside."
’Of course, I’ll never tell them I was the one who was desperate and dragged Miles Doyle along, hehe.’
Miles Doyle: Not hehe.
Sensing the strange, complicated looks from the others, Jasper Hayes got defensive. "What are you all looking at me like that for? We didn’t piss *inside* the building, just under a tree. Haven’t you ever heard of nature calling? Besides, it’s long since been absorbed into the ground. I refuse to believe none of you have ever had to relieve yourselves in the mountains!"
"Alright, that’s enough. Let’s get everyone assembled and geared up," Stanley Sutton said, watching the others return. "Our speed is definitely a factor in our assessment score. We’ll move out as soon as Old Man Payne and his group get down here."
"How about I take a few people and scout ahead? Once we find a good hiding spot nearby, we can work out a more detailed plan," Ryan Ford suggested.
Stanley Sutton considered this for a moment. "Let Harvey Lawson go. He’s fast. Then we can just have Old Man Payne take all of us to the area."
"Good idea. I almost forgot you guys have someone with a cheat code," Jasper Hayes said, though he was a bit worried. "But can Old Man Payne really take that many people?"
"Don’t worry, you shouldn’t underestimate him. Over a short distance like this, forty people is no problem at all." ’It might be a little taxing for him, but I’ll just give him my chicken drumstick at lunch.’
With that, Stanley Sutton turned to find Harvey Lawson.
Harvey Lawson had just left when Blake Paxton came down with Summer Quinn and her group.
Stanley Sutton explained the plan to Summer Quinn, who had no objections. ’Teleportation? How could that *not* be awesome? It’s beyond awesome!’
’So fun. I love it. I want to do it again.’
...
After waiting for about ten minutes, Harvey Lawson returned.
"It was pitch-black the whole way. Forget seeing any patrols, I didn’t even see a single fly. That abandoned building you mentioned, Chief, was completely dark. No lights on. I didn’t dare get too close, but I can confirm there’s no one outside."
"No one outside is good enough," Stanley Sutton said with an understanding nod. "Is there a good place to hide nearby?"
"Can Old Man Payne just teleport us straight to the roof of that abandoned building? We could just head down from there, right?" Jasper Hayes proposed.
Blake Paxton: ’Hey, buddy, how about I send you straight to heaven instead?’ [Cute face] [Grinning] [Motherf—]
Stanley Sutton shot him down immediately. "No way. The roof will definitely be guarded. On our last mission with the instructor, it was her idea to have Old Man Payne use the roof. I’m sure she’ll be expecting it this time."
Yvonne Lowell: ’Darling, you know a little too much, don’t you...’ [Through gritted teeth]
Summer Quinn recalled the terrain. "The closest place to the back mountain is the obstacle course, isn’t it? Why don’t we go there first to observe and then decide what to do?"
"Okay. Let’s move out, Old Man Payne," Stanley Sutton called out.
Blake Paxton understood. He stepped forward to perform his duty as the group’s teleportation robot.
Once everyone had arrived at the obstacle course, Blake Paxton turned his head and wiped a thin sheen of sweat from his forehead.
Ryan Ford spoke up. "Alright, let’s go over what we know. We have a three-and-a-half-story abandoned building, three hostages, an unknown number of hostiles, and unknown hostage locations. Our mission is to rescue the hostages and find ’Dugu Qiubai.’ Uh... I guess that’s everything. What a useless recap."
"We can also confirm that for this assessment, our four teams are working as one, not competing against each other," Stanley Sutton added. "We succeed as one, or we fail as one."
Jasper Hayes thought for a moment. "I remember their windows are low enough to climb through. How about one team joins ours to storm the main entrance and draw their fire, while the other two teams circle around to the sides?"
"Our team will go with you; we have more people," Summer Quinn agreed.
Stanley Sutton and Ryan Ford looked at each other and nodded.
With the plan set, the four squads departed.
Jasper Hayes and Summer Quinn led the way, with the Anomalous Abilities Unit and Gray Wolf following close behind.
Just as they got near the building, a powerful searchlight on the wall blazed to life.
In an instant, the night was vanquished, and the area around the building became as bright as day.
The exact position of every single person was exposed.
"Holy shit! That’s a dirty trick!"
"No wonder the path was clear. They were waiting for us right here!"
"Take cover!"
Paintballs began firing relentlessly from the windows. Everyone scrambled for cover behind the surrounding trees, while a few who were closer pressed themselves flat against the walls.
With a PFFT, the head of a Snow Phoenix team member under one of the trees was splattered with purple paint.
Everyone nearby instinctively looked up and saw a person crouching in the branches above.
Noticing their gazes, the person even gave them a polite wave. Then, taking advantage of their surprise, they shot several other people in the vicinity.
How considerate of them—the color on each person’s head was different.
"Anna Nash, eliminated!"
"Henry Flynn, eliminated!"
"Evelyn Shepherd, eliminated!"
"Nora Hughes, eliminated!"
"Kevin Shaw, eliminated!"
Hearing the electronic voice over the speakers, the group finally snapped back to reality.
"Son of a bitch! You...!"
The person raised an index finger to their lips. "Shh. Dead people can’t talk."
"Dead people" couldn’t fight back, so the nearest active team members started firing up into the tree. But the leaves were too dense, and not a single paintball found its mark.
"Tsk. Not a decent shot among you. Guess I’ll have to do it myself."
The person shot themself with their own paintball gun, then hopped down from the tree, saying cheerfully, "One for five. Not a bad trade for me."
The five eliminated players glared at the person. "Shut up! Dead people can’t talk!"
