After that, there were three more teachers who came around without any success either, and then the final person who came was the headmaster himself. That had been the most shocking visit for Hildegard, and Hildegard had listened from her bedroom door as the Headmaster tried and failed to convince her mother about the importance of Hildegard returning to school. But just like all the other teachers, Hildegard’s mother had also turned the headmaster away, and she told him that she would not be changing her mind! That was the moment when Hildegard felt like it was truly hopeless, and she decided not to bother asking her mother to let her go back to school anymore.

....

Time passed as usual in the kingdom, and the academy students finally entered their examination period. During this time, many of the teachers actually decided to remove Hildegard from their minds, and the visits to Hildegard’s house stopped since they all wanted to focus more on the students in the academy.

The atmosphere at the academy suddenly became far more serious, and it was common to see students with their heads buried in textbooks as they tried to cram one thing or another before their exams.

Visits to the academy library also increased, and the library attendants all became far busier! Percy helped as many students as he possibly could, and when the news about the ’brilliant’ librarian spread across the school, there were a lot of students coming to ask Percy for help with a difficult magical theory or practical question.

Viva was still carrying out her investigation to try and find out who was actually responsible for the murder of the students in the library. Since Percy had helped her with a location to start from, Viva had immediately gathered a team of investigators, and they were scanning through the entire region around the mountain where the Cult was last seen! It hadn’t been difficult at all to find where the Cult’s headquarters were, and the main hall where they had carried out the Full Moon Ritual was still as eerie as ever! Viva and the investigators immediately began carrying out magical analysis on the room to try and track down the people that were in there, but they were not having much luck since most of the cultists had scattered a long time ago.

This was how things went for the next month at the Academy. The students put all of their focus towards their studies, and Percy was focused on helping the students while also doing his best to help Viva whenever she seemed like she had run into a dead end in her investigations. And it wasn’t long before the examination period finally came to a close, and the students all celebrated in excitement as they entered into their winter break!

....

[Verati Academy Library]

[Winter Break]

The Kingdom of Andura had turned from its regular Greenland paradise into a beautiful landscape of white snow! The entire kingdom was enjoying a period of constant snow that created a large blanket of snow across the grasslands and left rooftops covered in white dust! There were decorations scattered across multiple cities, and people could be seen walking around in large coats and colorful caps as they prepared for the winter festivals that would be happening soon!

At the Verati Academy, the students had already finished their exams, but they were all still in the Academy since they had not yet finished the semester. This semester was one of the more special ones for the students because they were all anticipating the announcement of the top students from each of the years and the potential opening of the Eternal Cave where Verati’s staff was located!

Within the library, Percy was talking to the three students under his care, and he could sense the excitement in them as they told him all about their winter plans!

"I’m going to the Jinae Valley with my dad. He’s promised to take me if my scores are good this year, and I know I did well!"

James bounced on his feet excitedly as he said this, and Percy hummed and said that was nice. Percy was currently sitting on a reclining chair beside a large window at the side, and he had a book that he was looking through on his lap. The three students were standing around him, and Harold reached out and ruffled James’s hair with a grin.

"Just make sure you don’t fall inside the Valley. I heard there are monsters in there."

"Hey, that’s not true."

James swatted Harold’s hand away with a small pout on his face, and Harold just laughed! Raya was standing behind Harold, and she smiled before speaking in a low voice.

"I think I’m going to my hometown for winter. There’s a lot of space there, so I can keep practicing magic."

Harold beamed as he told Raya that was great, and Raya’s cheeks reddened as she ducked her head slightly. Harold didn’t really have any plans for the holidays, and he was going to spend all of it inside the academy, so he was a little jealous that James and Raya would be leaving to such faraway places! But Harold didn’t let that get him down, and he turned to Percy and asked.

"How about you, Mr. Percival? Do you have any plans for the winter break?"

Percy hummed as he flipped the page of his book, and he thought for a moment before saying.

"No, I don’t think so. Rita wants to have dinner and visit the festival later, so that’s practically all I’m doing."

"Oh yeah, the Winter Festival! I hear it’s going to be the biggest one this year."

Harold spoke up with a smile as he realized that he had something to look forward to as well, and James joined in with a smile!

"Yeah, that’s when Mirio is going to enter the cave, right?"

Percy glanced up from his book for a moment before he turned back down and continued reading. Percy already knew what James was talking about. The tradition of granting the best students each year the privilege to enter the Eternal Cave and train with the staff of Verati was already common in this kingdom, and as it was done every other year, the school planned to open the cave during the festival so that the student could enter.

Usually, no one was supposed to know who the student would be until the very day of the festival when it was announced, but after everything that had happened recently in the school, it had become obvious that there was only one person who could win it! The competition had been between Hildegard and Mirio at first, but now that Hildegard had been pulled away from school by her mother, the only person who could be the best student was Mirio.

"I-I don’t think it was very fair this year."

Raya spoke up from behind as she frowned to the side, and Harold turned to her curiously and asked her why she thought like this. Raya just shrugged and said:

"Hildegard was cleared of the accusations, wasn’t she? Why didn’t they allow her to come back to school? It’s not fair."
