Chapter 155: 155.
Night had already fallen over Azure Willow City when Lin Xuan finally decided to call it a day.
He stretched his stiff shoulders and placed the papers aside.
He had spent most of the evening working on a proposal concerning the construction of ships.
After all, what was a dockyard without ships?
The harbor could not remain nothing more than an impressive stretch of coastline with newly constructed facilities. If the Lin Family truly intended to develop maritime trade, they would eventually need their own fleet.
But that was not the only matter occupying his mind.
He still needed to find time to contact the other cities and negotiate various agreements. The harbor and everything being constructed around it were, in essence, private assets of the Lin Family.
The Lin Family had not received any funding from the royal family for the project, after all.
If they were going to invest so heavily into its construction, Lin Xuan naturally wanted the Lin Family to reap the benefits.
After stretching once more, Lin Xuan finally left his office and made his way home.
However, the moment he entered the courtyard, he noticed a familiar figure practicing beneath the moonlight.
Lin Zhaoyue was holding a fan he had never seen before.
Her movements were graceful and precise as she repeatedly performed the fan martial technique he had obtained for her.
The fan opened and closed between her fingers, each movement flowing naturally into the next.
Lin Xuan stopped at the entrance and quietly watched his daughter practice.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
The Flowing Cloud Fan Art was something Lin Xuan had obtained from the system.
Or, to be more precise, from the Myth Grade artifact.
Considering how extraordinary the Cloud Chasing Movement Technique had been, Lin Xuan had no doubt that the Flowing Cloud Fan Art would be equally remarkable.
Watching his daughter practice beneath the moonlight brought a delightful smile to his face yet, for some reason, there was a faint sense of unease in his heart at the same time.
He frowned slightly.
"I think I’ve forgotten something."
His voice was barely audible.
In the meantime, Lin Zhaoyue had sensed his presence long ago.
After completing another set of movements, she finally stopped and looked toward the entrance.
The moment she saw her father standing there, her eyes immediately brightened as she happily approached him.
"Father! How long have you been there?"
Lin Xuan smiled.
"I just arrived."
His gaze fell upon the fan in her hand.
"How is the martial technique? Do you like it?"
Lin Zhaoyue’s eyes sparkled.
"Like it? Hehe, I love it! It’s the best gift!"
Lin Xuan’s gaze lingered on the fan in her hand for a moment before he slowly looked away.
"I’m glad you love it."
"Yes, I really do," Lin Zhaoyue replied happily.
She looked down at the fan and gently folded it before holding it at her side.
"The Flowing Cloud Fan Art is incredible. It feels as though every movement naturally connects to the next. Even though I’ve only practiced it for a short while, I can already tell how profound it is."
Lin Xuan smiled.
"Good, practice it properly. Don’t rush simply because you want to become stronger."
"I know, Father."
She smiled sweetly before falling into step beside him.
The two began walking back toward his courtyard together.
The moonlight illuminated the stone path beneath their feet, while the sounds of the night quietly surrounded them.
Lin Xuan glanced at his daughter from the corner of his eye. She seemed particularly happy tonight.
"Did you finish your cultivation for the day?"
"Not yet. I was planning to practice a little longer."
"Then why did you stop?"
"Because Father came."
She answered as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Lin Xuan chuckled.
"You don’t have to stop cultivating just because I arrive."
"I know."
She tilted her head slightly.
"But I wanted to walk back with you."
Lin Xuan’s smile became warmer.
"All right."
They continued walking and for a while, neither of them spoke.
Their footsteps echoed softly along the stone path as the distance between the courtyard and the residence gradually disappeared.
Lin Xuan’s thoughts, however, had already returned to the matter that had been bothering him.
His daughter’s Martial Spirit.
The First-Grade Mortal Rank Martial Spirit she had awakened during the ceremony was clearly not her true potential.
The same was now true for Lin Zhaofeng.
And after discovering that the ancient altar was actually a Myth Grade artifact capable of awakening Martial Spirits and dormant bloodlines, Lin Xuan could no longer simply dismiss the matter.
He glanced at Zhaoyue again.
After a moment of silence, he finally spoke.
"I have a few questions for you, if you don’t mind."
"Questions?"
Lin Zhaoyue looked up at him and then she smiled without hesitation.
"You can ask me anything, Father."
Lin Xuan continued walking for another few steps and then he came to a stop turning to look at her.
Lin Zhaoyue stopped as well and looked at him curiously.
While looking directly into her eyes, he asked.
"How did you improve your Martial Spirit?"
"How did I improve my Martial Spirit?"
Lin Zhaoyue blinked.
"I... I don’t know."
Her voice became noticeably quieter.
She avoided her father’s gaze, and her fingers unconsciously tightened around the folded fan in her hand. A trace of nervousness appeared in her eyes as she struggled to think of an answer.
Lin Xuan noticed her reaction but did not press her.
Instead, he smiled and gently patted her head.
"You’ll open up about it someday, then."
Lin Zhaoyue looked up at him.
Lin Xuan’s expression remained relaxed as he continued,"Can I assume that the improvement to Lin Zhaofeng’s Martial Spirit was also your doing?"
Lin Zhaoyue swallowed.
Her eyes shifted away for a moment before she slowly nodded.
"Yes."
Lin Xuan gave a small nod in return.
"That’s good, then. His Martial Spirit is rather abnormal, after all."
Lin Zhaoyue looked at him quietly, for a moment, she seemed hesitant.
Then she asked in a soft voice, "Father..."
"Hm?"
"Do you know how to read someone’s Martial Talent just by looking at their face?"
Lin Xuan stopped for a moment and thought about it.
Do I?
With the properties of the Myth Grade artifact, he could practically see the Martial Spirit of anyone he encountered.
Whether that counted as being able to read someone’s Martial Talent from their face was another matter entirely.
Still, there was no reason to explain all of that.
Lin Xuan calmly nodded.
"Yes."
Lin Zhaoyue’s expression stiffened and she gulped audibly.
