Chapter 156: 156.
After several moments of silence, Lin Zhaoyue finally gathered the courage to ask,"Then, Father... what was Master’s Martial Spirit?"
Lin Xuan stared at her and thought for a moment before replying,"Qin Xishu? I didn’t check."
"Check?" Lin Zhaoyue giggled, "You are funny, Father. You were joking, huh? I already believed you when you said you can read martial spirit by their face huhu."
Lin Xuan gave her a completely deadpan look.
"Earth Rank, First Grade."
The smile vanished from Lin Zhaoyue’s face as she stared at him in stunned silence.
Her eyes gradually reddened and then she burst into tears.
"Wahhh! Papa, why are you so bad?!"
Before Lin Xuan could react, she rushed over and hugged his leg tightly.
"Papa, trust me, please! I have never used blood techniques in my life!"
She sniffled.
"Not in this life or the previous one!"
Lin Xuan froze and for a moment, he was genuinely taken aback before suddenly bursting into laughter.
"Hahaha!"
So that was what she had been worried about.
At their current stage of cultivation, there were essentially only two methods the world knew of that could dramatically improve a person’s Martial Spirit.
One was to obtain extremely rare spirit herbs or other heaven-defying treasures.
The other was achievable through blood cultivation with the help of sacrifices.
Zhaoyue had probably assumed that he suspected her of having used some forbidden blood cultivation technique.
The thought alone was enough to amuse him.
What a sight.
His daughter was supposed to be a regressor who had experienced an entire lifetime.
Yet right now, she looked exactly like a child who had been caught doing something wrong.
Lin Xuan finally stopped laughing and looked down at her.
"All right, all right. Let’s say you used spirit herbs."
Lin Zhaoyue cautiously lifted her tearful face.
Lin Xuan continued, "Then why is your Martial Spirit only First Grade while Zhaofeng’s is Grade two?"
"Both of us used a Spirit Nurturing Flower."
Lin Zhaoyue immediately answered, apparently relieved that she finally had an explanation.
"I happened to find two of them. I used one and gave the other to Zhaofeng."
Lin Xuan’s expression shifted slightly.
"Since I started with a First-Grade Mortal Rank Martial Spirit, it was only elevated to First Grade Earth Rank. And since Zhaofeng started with a Second-Grade Mortal Rank Martial Spirit, his was elevated to Second Grade Earth Rank."
"Spirit Nurturing Flower?"
Lin Xuan stared at her.
Wasn’t that supposed to be an extremely rare Level Four spiritual herb?
And she had somehow managed to find two of them?
His expression became complicated. Not because she found the spirit nurturing flower, but the fact that Zhaoyue had willingly given one away.
A Spirit Nurturing Flower was an incredibly valuable treasure. Even cultivators in the nascent soul would likely fought desperately to obtain one.
Yet she had simply given half of what she possessed to another clan member.
Lin Xuan looked at his daughter for a long moment.
Is Zhaofeng another hidden talent in the future? But did she also found this same flower in her past life and that she had to later share it with him?
Cause if not, then won’t her sharing it with him perhaps derail him off the original path if he was a big shot in the future argh forget it. I don’t know what I’m talking about anymore.
He thought back to the boy’s recent breakthrough.
Lin Zhaofeng had successfully reached the Golden Core Realm at only twelve years old.
Perhaps the improvement Zhaoyue had given him had indeed been worthwhile.
At the very least, he could not deny the result.
Whatever his original potential had been, Zhaofeng had now proven that the investment had not gone to waste.
Lin Xuan looked at his daughter for a moment before reaching out and gently ruffling her hair.
"All right, then."
He had no reason to doubt her explanation.
There was nothing particularly suspicious about what she had told him. More importantly, Lin Xuan could not sense the slightest trace of the sinister aura associated with blood cultivators from her.
And truthfully, he had never considered Lin Zhaoyue the type of person who would willingly walk down such a path.
Seeing that she was still looking at him somewhat nervously, he smiled.
"Don’t worry about it. I wasn’t accusing you of anything."
Lin Zhaoyue’s tense expression finally relaxed.
"Really?"
"Really."
She let out a small sigh of relief before smiling again.
"Then that’s good."
Lin Xuan chuckled.
"Now go back and rest. You’ve been practicing for quite some time."
"All right, Father."
She nodded obediently.
The two continued walking together for a short while before eventually reaching the point where they had to part ways.
"Good night, Father."
"Good night, Yue’er."
Lin Zhaoyue gave him one last smile before turning toward her residence.
Lin Xuan watched her leave for a moment before turning in the opposite direction.
He soon arrived at his private courtyard.
After washing up, Lin Xuan climbed into bed and closed his eyes.
Before long, sleep quietly claimed him.
Meanwhile, the moment Lin Zhaoyue stepped into her courtyard, she was greeted by an unmistakably angry Nanny Liu.
"Young Miss, what have you been doing all this time? You’ve already missed your bedtime!"
"Uh..."
Lin Zhaoyue froze.
"Nanny Liu, please. I was cultivating and you know that cultivators don’t really need as much sleep."
Nanny Liu narrowed her eyes, she clearly was not convinced.
"Young Miss, you can lie all you want to everyone else, but don’t think you can fool me."
Before Lin Zhaoyue could react, Nanny Liu reached out and scooped her up.
"After all, I raised your father, and he followed my routine perfectly when he was young."
"Nanny Liu!"
Lin Zhaoyue’s feet dangled helplessly in the air.
"Now, come with me."
"But I really wasn’t lying!"
Nanny Liu ignored her protests and carried her toward the room.
"Whether you were cultivating or sneaking around, bedtime is bedtime."
Lin Zhaoyue could only pout helplessly as she was carried away.
