Chapter 176: 176: Royal envoy.
The night passed peacefully, and by the time the sun rose above Azure Willow City, Lin Xuan was already awake.
He stared at the system screen before him, a faint look of satisfaction appearing on his face.
[ The King’s Trial. ]
[ First Trial: Host the Whale People within the Lin Family estate. ]
[ Trial Requirement: Provide the Whale People with food and entertainment for three days. ]
[ Completion: 1/3 days ]
One day had passed without any trouble.
Now, all he needed to do was survive another two days, and this part of the King’s Trial would be completed.
As for what exactly the system was testing, Lin Xuan had a vague idea. However, he was far from certain about his conclusion.
Today should be a good opportunity to probe about it, he thought.
Just as he was about to rise, his brows suddenly lifted.
His divine sense had detected the sudden appearance of at least twenty people and three enormous caravans.
As a Nascent Soul cultivator, the range of his divine sense was extraordinarily vast.
He could clearly sense that the group had arrived with the help of a long-distance group teleportation talisman.
Lin Xuan’s eyes narrowed.
Teleportation talismans were already expensive, but a talisman capable of transporting an entire group over such a vast distance was considerably more valuable.
Ordinary cultivators could never afford such a thing, and even wealthy cultivation families would hesitate to use one casually.
There were only a few groups Lin Xuan could think of that possessed both the wealth and authority to use such a treasure without hesitation.
The royal family.
Or perhaps one of the major clans or sects of the Tianhe Empire.
Lin Xuan rose from his seat, and in the next instant, his figure vanished from the courtyard, heading toward the location where the three caravans had appeared.
Meanwhile, several kilometers away, the newly arrived caravan team was in considerably less dignified condition.
Several people were bent over with their hands on their knees, vomiting profusely.
One of the older men wiped his mouth and took several deep breaths.
"I really cannot get used to using that talisman."
The man beside him, Elder Mo Jian, straightened his robes with remarkable composure despite his pale complexion.
"Tsk, Elder Wei Rong, it is not every day that we get to use a mass teleportation talisman. We should consider ourselves fortunate that we were even given the opportunity to experience one."
Wei Rong looked at him with disbelief.
"Fortunate?"
Before Mo Jian could answer, another elderly man who had already recovered stepped forward with a hearty laugh.
"Elder Mo is right. How many people in this kingdom can casually sit inside a teleportation formation capable of transporting three caravans at once?"
The third elder was called Elder Qian Deyu, and unlike the other two, he seemed genuinely delighted by the experience.
He patted one of the caravans affectionately.
"Using an item that could practically buy an entire city is always a thrill."
As for the surrounding cultivators, most of them had already recovered from the unpleasant effects of the teleportation and were busy preparing the caravans.
Just then, Lin Xuan arrived above the location.
He swept his divine sense swept across the entire group once more before his gaze settled upon the three enormous caravans.
The cultivators surrounding them were dressed in uniform robes, and upon their chests was an unmistakable golden insignia bearing the emblem of the Loushi Kingdom’s royal family.
So it really is the royal family.
Lin Xuan’s eyes narrowed slightly.
The moment he appeared, the three elders noticed his arrival as well.
Qian Deyu happened to look up, and the instant he saw Lin Xuan, his eyes widened in surprise.
"Boy! You’re here already? How are you so fast?"
Lin Xuan’s brows immediately furrowed.
Boy?
He stared at the old man for a moment.
Are we really that familiar? You just met me and you are already calling me names.
Still, the royal insignia embroidered upon the man’s robes was enough to tell Lin Xuan that these people were no ordinary visitors.
Suppressing his doubts, he descended to the ground and cupped his fists.
"Greetings, seniors. I am Lin Xuan, Patriarch of the Lin Family."
Qian Deyu immediately burst into laughter.
"Hahaha! There is no need to be so formal. We have heard quite a bit about you."
Lin Xuan maintained a calm expression, but his suspicion only deepened.
Why is this old man so informal? Do we know each other?
Before Lin Xuan could ask, Qian Deyu turned toward the other two elders.
"Come, let me introduce everyone."
Qian Deyu first pointed toward the pale-faced elder who had been complaining about the effects of the teleportation.
"This is Elder Wei Rong, one of the royal family’s External Affairs Elders."
Wei Rong immediately cupped his fists toward Lin Xuan.
"Greetings, Patriarch Lin."
Lin Xuan returned the gesture.
"Greetings, Elder Wei."
Qian Deyu then pointed toward the man standing beside him.
"And this is Elder Mo Jian, an elder of the royal family’s Treasury Department."
Mo Jian smiled and nodded.
"Patriarch Lin."
"Elder Mo."
After Qian Deyu finished introducing the others, Lin Xuan stared at him waiting for his self introduction.
There was also something strange about this old man.
The way he spoke and act, it was as if this old man was actually familiar with the former Lin Xuan. Or perhaps he was really that confident in himself.
Lin Xuan’s eyes narrowed slightly.
But if they knew each other, what exactly was their relationship?
Qian Deyu noticed Lin Xuan staring at him and quickly realised what he had done.
He suddenly slapped his forehead.
"Ah, I forgot to introduce myself. My apologies."
He placed a hand against his chest and smiled.
"As for me, I am Qian Deyu. I oversee several matters concerning the royal family’s external relations."
Lin Xuan’s eyes flickered.
So this old man held considerable authority within the royal family.
Ugh what exactly was his connection with the former Lin Xuan? How the heck does the former Lin Xuan even know this guy...
Unfortunately, Qian Deyu did not seem interested in explaining it.
Instead, he turned and gestured toward the cultivators standing behind them.
"These are the royal guards and attendants accompanying us. The others are responsible for looking after the three caravans."
The surrounding cultivators immediately cupped their fists.
"Greetings, Patriarch Lin!"
Lin Xuan nodded politely, deciding to keep his doubts for later, "Welcome to Azure Willow City."
