Chapter 218: Chapter 218 Total Disaster

_Rowena’s POV_

I sat on the bench outside the VIP medical ward, resting my elbows on my knees as I stared down at the floor.

Was I angry? Absolutely. Being publicly accused of theft by a bitter old woman and a fraudulent doctor wasn’t exactly my idea of a pleasant morning.

Part of me had wanted to expose Brielle right then and there in front of the entire medical board. But Aunt Kristy’s stubborn arrogance and blind hatred had pushed my patience past its limit.

If she wanted so badly to trust a liar, then I was more than happy to step back and let her experience the full consequences of her own choices.

A little bit of suffering was going to be a very effective lesson.

Footsteps echoed down the hallway, I raised my head to see Alaric walking toward me, his jacket unbuttoned and a look of deep, overwhelming exhaustion written across his face. He motioned for his guards to stay back as he stepped up to my bench, sinking down onto the seat beside me.

"Rowena," Alaric spoke softly, his voice laced with genuine regret. "I am so sorry for how my aunt spoke to you in there. She was out of line."

"I don’t care about her words," I replied instead, keeping my face completely composed.

Alaric rubbed his temples, turning his head to look at me with a confused gaze. "I need to ask you something, Rowena... and I need you to be honest with me. Why did your prototype look almost identical to Brielle’s? When I was in your laboratory two days ago, the diagrams on your screen looked completely different."

I offered him a small, faint smile, though my eyes remained cold. "You will find out very soon, Alaric."

He pulled his brows together, clearly bewildered by my answer. "Rowena, what does that mean? If there is something going on, you can tell me—"

"Just sit back and watch the show," I cut him off gently, resting my head against his shoulder instead. "I am not going to spoil the surprise."

Alaric let out a sigh, realizing I wasn’t going to offer another word of explanation. He simply sat beside me in silence, resting his warm hand over mine.

Ten minutes later, the surgical team arrived to transfer Brielle’s prototype into the primary operating theater. Aunt Kristy was wheeled past us on a gurney, giving me one last hateful glare before the double doors swung shut.

The entire group gathered in the private waiting lounge outside the surgical wing. Brielle stood near the window with her mother, who had arrived a few minutes after the surgery began, sipping tea and chatting happily with several high ranking pack elders who had also come to witness the procedure.

Ezekiel stood near the opposite wall, leaning against a pillar while staring dead at Brielle. The sheer hatred and disgust burning in his eyes was so obvious that even the passing nurses gave him a wide berth.

An hour and a half passed in anticipation.

Finally, the bright light above the operating theater doors clicked off. The double doors swung open, and the lead surgeon stepped out, wearing a wide, triumphant smile as he pulled off his surgical mask.

"The procedure was an absolute, flawless success!" the doctor announced loudly to the waiting room. "The neural bridges took immediately, and the limb is fully operational!"

A wave of applause broke out among the pack elders. A moment later, Aunt Kristy was pushed out of the ward in a wheelchair. She now had two full legs, the prosthetic attached seamlessly to her right thigh.

A massive radiant smile covered her pale face as she moved her new toes, looking happier than she had before.

"Brielle, my darling!" Kristy called out, completely ignoring the rest of us as she gestured for Brielle to come closer. "Come here, sweet girl! Look at this! It feels so natural! You are an absolute miracle worker!"

Brielle stepped forward, bowing her head modestly while beaming under the praise. "I am just so happy I could bring your mobility back, Aunt Kristy. It was my absolute duty."

Aunt Kristy patted Brielle’s hand affectionately, turning her eyes toward Alaric, who was standing beside my bench.

"Alaric," Kristy spoke up, her voice loud enough for every elder in the lounge to hear clearly. "Look at what a real, capable woman can do for our family. You need to open your eyes and consider getting back together with Brielle. She has the brain, the grace, and the prestige to be the perfect Luna Queen for this pack."

Brielle’s cheeks flushed a delicate shade of pink, though a smug, victorious spark flashed in her eyes. She quickly put on a modest, timid expression, looking toward me with a fake hesitation.

"Oh, Aunt Kristy, please stop," Brielle said softly, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness designed to put me in a tight corner. "We shouldn’t talk about such things right now. Alaric and Rowena love each other very much, even if... even if things didn’t go quite right today. I don’t want to cause any trouble between them."

Kristy scoffed loudly, sneering straight in my direction. "Love? Don’t be ridiculous, Brielle! Rowena may be a beautiful woman, but she is a shameless thief with no honor. She is completely unfit to ever hold the position of Luna Queen in this territory!"

I didn’t yell, I didn’t defend myself, I didn’t even stand up.

Instead, a slow smirk spread across my lips. I raised my arm, glanced down at the wrist watch on my left arm, and tapped the glass face.

Then, I calmly started counting down out loud for everyone in the room to hear.

"Ten," I spoke clearly, my voice slicing through the lounge.

Everyone froze, the elders stopped talking, Brielle’s smile faltered, and Kristy frowned in deep confusion.

"Nine... eight..." I continued, my tone completely relaxed.

"Rowena?" Alaric asked, his brows furrowed in total bewilderment as he looked down at me. "What are you doing?"

"Seven... six... five..."

Brielle’s mother stepped forward, her face full of disgust. "What is wrong with this girl? Has she finally lost her mind from the embarrassment?"

Over by the pillar, Ezekiel’s smirk widened into a full, wicked grin. He crossed his arms, leaning back to enjoy the view, already knowing the exact disaster that was about to unfold.

"Four... three... two... one."

The very second the word left my mouth, Kristy’s confident expression completely shattered.

A loud violent gasp erupted from her throat, her face twisted into a mask of pure, unimaginable agony as she suddenly grabbed her right thigh, her body convulsing in the wheelchair.

"AAAAAAHHGH!"

An ear piercing, blood curdling scream echoed through the entire hospital wing, making the surrounding elders jump back in absolute terror.

"MY LEG!" Kristy shrieked, tears instantly bursting from her eyes as she clawed wildly at her pants leg. "IT’S BURNING! GODDESS, IT FEELS LIKE LIQUID FIRE INSIDE MY BONE!"

Right in front of everyone’s horrified eyes, the silver casing of the prosthetic leg began to glow a deep angry shade of bright red. The artificial tissue around her upper thigh began to swell in a terrifying manner.

The entire waiting lounge erupted into total, chaotic panic.

Doctors and nurses rushed forward screaming for ice, while Brielle backed away in absolute, horrifying shock, her face turning as white as a sheet of paper.

I calmly brought my hand down, examined my fingernails for a second, and smiled softly.

"And that’s it."
