A frog in a well saw nothing but the patch of sky above its head.
For Vesta, the goddess of the newly born dimension, the world was narrow and limited.
If one were to ask if that was solely her fault, that was rather a tough call to make. The determination would be complicated, because she wasn’t a normal goddess in the first place.
Unlike the refined and elegant gods of imagination, she caused trouble without restraint, acting with complete recklessness. She was a goddess who should never have existed, yet the dimension had nonetheless imbued her with life and power. Since then, she had been carelessly unleashing her power without the slightest regard for the dimension's lifespan.
Of course, the consequences were relatively minor while she remained within her own dimension. Unfortunately, once that dimension became connected to Tionis, it was an entirely different matter of consumption.
She didn't realize that disregarding proper rules and recklessly manifesting power would only instantly hasten the consumption of herself as well as the dimension that had created her.
The sky shimmered, and the space tore open before her. Then, countless knights and soldiers began to emerge, clad in the white armor of the Temple Corps.
“Ummm...”
The apostles, who had stubbornly tried to follow after her, all dropped to one knee and lowered their heads.
“Goddess, we await your command!”
“U-Uh... Right.”
Things weren't going according to her original plan.
The moment she crossed over to this dimension, she had intended to twist everything and brand the beings who dared to oppose her, the One True God, with their sin.
Yet, the moment she crossed over after connecting the dimensions, or perhaps right after she cut down that blue-haired girl, an unfamiliar exhaustion and overwhelming fatigue began to travel through her entire body and linger in her very bones.
‘How could my physical body possibly have issues? I am the One True God!’
The mere fact that there were other worlds she didn't create should've made her abandon the premise of being the one and only god. Instead, she chose to believe there weren't any other deities with absolute power like her.
The perfect example was how the blue-haired Apostle who had tried to stop her disappeared without even managing to put up a fight.
A throbbing headache struck her, and she grabbed her head for a moment. Then she looked at those who were waiting for her.
They were mere creations; nothing more than pathetic creatures. Yet, they were also her faithful followers and worshipers.
“Open your ears and listen to me. I command you in the name of the One True God, Vesta.”
Suppressing the strange nausea rising in her throat, she spoke with solemn authority, announcing, “You are blessed.”
She closed her eyes for a moment, pondered, and then opened her mouth again.
“The land you stand on and live in is a world that shares your goddess’s the divine blessing. Though not yet complete, it is a place that will one day be reborn as a true paradise.”
It was true she showed tyrannical tendencies. She had misused her power to bring about immense development and reckless prosperity in her dimension. That was how she convinced and coerced them into following her.
Even though the creatures living there weren't all that important, Goddess Vesta found a world with nothing special or mysterious to be incredibly boring.
She faced her followers and continued, “But a dark cloud has settled over that paradise.”
At her words, the frenzy of war slowly began to seep into the soldiers and knights.
“They weren't satisfied with their own domain, and dared to defile the holy sanctuary of the one and only god! They trampled the paradise I bestowed upon you with dirty feet. They dared to kill this goddess's First Apostle.”
Her eyes flashed with anger. It was rage against an external entity that destroyed what was hers. “Tell me—do you want to protect your paradise? Will you work to preserve the heaven I have prepared for you?”
“We want to protect it!!!”
“Then take up arms! Show the invaders who invaded your paradise the rage of the sanctuary's masters. It is time you deliver divine retribution to those filthy invaders.”
She spread her arms. Her divine power hadn't been responding properly for a while by then, but she didn’t care.
The holiness permeated every one of her followers. Gaining massive strength, speed, and stamina, they cheered and shed hot tears at the divine miracle they’d witnessed right before their eyes.
Even though one of the apostles had secretly tried to create gu poison and an evil dragon, very few of the other apostles were aware of that fact.
[The goddess has bestowed such a magnificent blessing upon us, mere creatures who dwell within the Sanctuary.]
“I, your mother, will stop the insignificant apostles traipsing around on this land. Now, it’s time you go and show them what you are! Show them who has truly received the grace of the One True God!”
Fired up, one of her leading apostles shouted, “All forces!!! Form up and prepare to advance!!!”
They honestly didn't know how vast the land before them was. That was why even an apostle could recognize that advancing recklessly would be a stupid mistake.
What they needed was intelligence and calculated intent.
The apostles immediately began advancing toward the closest estate of considerable size. Naturally, the people of the territory they'd arrived in were bewildered by the sudden appearance of countless troops of unknown affiliation.
A commotion broke out as countless soldiers climbed the defensive ramparts, their faces tight with tension.
If those troops were enemies, the locals were in the midst of an enormous crisis. It didn't matter who specifically was behind the soldiers, or what their identity was. Countless people would die once a war broke out.
That was especially true for the residents of the estate, their defending soldiers already having been worn out from the recent civil war.
An army big enough to participate in full-blown wars approached, accompanied by beings who appeared to possess tremendous power.
There was no way the locals wouldn't be afraid.
While Davey had overwhelmed the other dimension's natives with ease, the dimension ruled by Vesta clearly didn't operate under the usual rules. As a result, they acquired Masters at a right far beyond typical worlds. Their influence and capabilities were bound to be truly enormous.
A gate opened toward the slowly advancing Temple Corps, and one of the estate’s knights frantically rode out.
“S-stop!!!” The man rode his horse at full speed to catch up with the corps and shouted at the mounted unit as it advanced at a steady pace, “State your affiliation!! If you approach any further, we'll have no choice but to engage in battle!!!”
Regardless of his brave actions, the veteran general who’d approached instinctively knew he was about to die. It was the intuition of someone who had spent a lifetime on the battlefield. He could instinctively feel why those clad in white armor were approaching.
Following the knight general's shout, one of the apostles slowly rode his horse forward.
Ferocity gleamed in the soldiers' eyes behind him. An overwhelming pressure filled the air, so intense that it felt as though its mere presence could crush the general flat to the ground.
“Kneel, old general! How dare you hold your head so high?”
The general was incensed by their arrogance, shouting, “Who are you to commit such an act?! Are you working for Count Paeltris? Or the Marquis Venna?! This is Count Partus's estate! To swarm us with this kind of force unannounced constitutes a surprise attack, not something we agreed on beforehand!!! There are rules to disputes among nobles!”
Following his shout, one of the apostles slowly stepped forward and swung their blade.
Thud!!!
“Neighhhhh!!!”
Once the impact landed, the man’s horse was startled and threw him off before neighing loudly and running away.
The apostle walked up to the old knight on the ground, who had sustained severe injuries from the blow, and looked down at him with arrogant disdain.
“Bow your head. You're before the One True God, Goddess Vesta.”
The old general could hardly believe what he was hearing, unfamiliar with what the man was saying. “W-what are you even talking about...”
“By the name of the One True God, I will purify all evil on this land! That fortress you emerged from will just be the start. We won't stop until we've punished everyone on this land who dared to trespass upon the sanctuary.”
“You're... not citizens of the Rowane Kingdom! Who are you?! Y-you're c-crazy! Why else would someone attack Rowane, if they weren't insane?!!”
Their actions, manner of speech, and everything else were completely unlike those of ordinary citizens of the Rowane Kingdom.
The old knight felt despair at the incomprehensible situation.
He looked up at the beautiful woman floating in the sky that seemed to be blessing the knights. He wasn’t sure if she was a young girl or an adult woman. Though she had a youthful look, just seeing her made a creeping sense of terror crawl over his entire body.
‘That is one seriously dangerous woman. What she emits is something much deeper and more terrifying than the killing aura a Master-level fighter gives off.’
The old knight couldn't help but think of his home territory that would soon be consumed by flames. He looked up with sorrow.
The estate had no available power to stop such a number of troops, certainly not when led by such overwhelmingly powerful beings.
Since the attack was so sudden, they hadn't even had time to notify the royal family and ask for reinforcements. Not that there would be an immediate response that arrived in time, though.
It’d be different if they were attacking Heins Territory, but this place was different.
“Aaah. Goddess Freyja...” the old knight muttered to himself.
“How dare you call out for some lowly false god when the One True God, Goddess Vesta, is here?!”
“Heretic!!!”
“Heretic!!!”
Shouting in unison, the soldiers all struck the ground with the shafts of their halberds.
“Execution for the heretics!”
“Death to the heretics!”
“Punishment to the invaders!”
