Darian and Evangeline O'Rowane.
Darian was the eldest son born to Davey and Aeria, and Evangeline was born at the same time.
If one were to ask who the older one was, they'd probably fight like crazy for the title. Even so, Davey figured they would be the ones who understood each other best.
Sure, that would likely lead to them bickering the most, but it would also be the reason why they’d care for each other the most.
“Take care of Willow. I’ll go ahead in the meantime,” Darian declared.
“I'll catch up soon,” Evangeline said calmly, slowly helping Willow up.
“Evangeline? Is that you?” Willow asked with uncertainty, drawing close into her embrace.
“Yeah. It's really been a long time.”
Though Evangeline spoke calmly, her body was trembling.
Willow slowly began to understand what had happened. The place she confronted Doomsday in was different from Tionis. It was essentially a dimensional rift. While inside, the concept of time was a complete mess, and it was likely a gathering place for beings that shouldn't exist.
While theoretically possible, it was a practically impossible realm.
“How... did you...? Did you come from the future Abel came from?” Willow hesitantly guessed.
“You got it. I've been waiting for this day ever since Abel left,” Evangeline nonchalantly confirmed.
“They say pain goes away with time, right?”
Holding Willow, she softly answered, “Darian has it easier, but Dad, me, and the moms haven't forgotten you for a single moment—not even after twenty years.”
If Willow had sacrificed herself in Darian's inner world, things might not have turned out in such a way.
“So, don't ever do that again,” Evangeline solemnly commanded her. “I never want to go through that kind of regret again.”
“Does Abel... know?”
“He doesn't. We haven't told him anything, or at least never discussed it in front of him.”
Even so, there was no way he hadn't heard the story at least once over those twenty years. An offhand remark from someone in Heins would’ve been enough to tip him off.
“So you guys managed to hide it...”
“Abel has the authority of time and space. Our careful planning meant we couldn't let him find out and make a move on his own.”
That meant that, in the future where Willow died, everyone including Davey had kept the secret hidden for more than twenty years, all for the sake of this single chance.
“You little bitch,” Willow playfully insulted. “You're seriously out of your mind, aren't you?”
“Oh yeah? Then how about you, who sacrificed yourself alone to save Darian?”
Willow didn't have a response to that.
“I couldn't even play games properly after you died,” Evangeline tearfully lamented. “Every time I tried to play, I couldn’t help but remember when you would clumsily run around with a gun.”
Her voice was thick with emotion. Willow silently patted her back, then asked, “Will doing this change the future?”
Even if she lived in her current timeline, there’d likely be no change in theirs.
Evangeline slowly pulled away and said, “Ummm. I dunno...”
Willow sensed there was more to it, but chose not to press further.
Evangeline then drew her divine dragon sword Twilight, turned her back on Willow, and walked forward. “Darian and I are gonna tie that bastard up. When you get a chance, slam your power into its core.”
“W-wait! That's dangerous...!”
Before she could finish, a colossal wing ripped its way out through the space behind Evangeline.
Sling.
At the same time, a pure white current gathered at the tip of her sword. It was a flow of energy far beyond a simple Aura Blade.
Perhaps it was possible because she was the last ancient dragon, born between Eclipse and Hercules. Or perhaps it was the result of all the effort she had put in.
Boom!!!
A deafening explosion forcibly dragged Willow back to her senses. Startled, she stared blankly at Darian, who’d slammed the massive wolf into the ground with his bare fists.
“Huh?”
Darian, clad in a black robe, plunged forward like a flash, driving Doomsday back with a merciless force.
Only then did Willow realize that Doomsday hadn't shown its full power when it fought her.
“I guess it’s not called Doomsday for nothing...” She remarked before slowly standing up straight. With Darian and Evangeline's help, she felt stronger than ever.
Seeing Darian’s back looking so reliable, it reminded her of Davey.
Swoosh!!
Doomsday’s counterattack was fierce. When towering old trees ripped through the sky and wrapped around Darian in an attempt to absorb his power, a sphere containing enormous power formed in one of his hands.
As the vines coiling around Darian simultaneously shot in to pierce him, he didn't hesitate to toss the sphere in his hand.
The result was astounding.
The vines that touched the sphere disintegrated as if vaporized, and brilliant white streaks of light instantly consumed every vine from the ancient tree, wiping them all out.
“KRAAAH!!!”
Doomsday stumbled back, furious at the unexpectedly powerful counterattack. Darian gave it no opening and pressed on.
A sword made of black flames appeared in his hand. He then relentlessly sliced the monster.
The black flame disappeared, revealing a sword similar in color to Evangeline’s Twilight.
Willow mused, ‘Dad must've made it for him.’
The giant wooden wolf staggered as one of its massive forelegs was severed. Seeing it show an opening, Darian didn’t hesitate to lunge in and deliver the finishing blow.
However, Doomsday wasn't an easy opponent. Its abdomen shimmered and shot a mysterious flash of light at Darian.
Just as he was about to frantically unleash his magic in defense, Evangeline dropped from the sky like a missile and kicked the beam of light aside, growling out, “HEEEYAH!!”
BOOM!!!
Willow rubbed her eyes, unable to process the fact that Evangeline had physically deflected non-physical energy. Then again, Davey had once casually mentioned someone capable of pulling off something that ridiculous.
They had been the strongest in the Hall of Heroes. A being who was, for all intents and purposes, humanity’s supreme commander in its fight for survival.
It was the power of Hercules, the survival expert.
Evangeline's blow didn't just repel the energy, either. It warped the entire surrounding space. She then sprang back up and swung her sword, hammering down on the top of Doomsday’s head.
The sword, swung like an axe chopping wood, didn't actually touch Doomsday. It stopped mid-air above it, clearly having hit something else.
An unknown shockwave and pressure crushed Doomsday, and its physical form instantly crumpled and flattened like a piece of paper.
“That’s just like you, always losing your temper and ignoring your surroundings. Did you forget what Dad always told us?”
Evangeline, gigantic wings flapping as she grumbled, nodded silently.
“I figured you'd show up,” Darian said with a smirk.
Evangeline sighed and flicked her sword. “Haaah. If only you couldn't talk...”
Her attack style was so aggressive that, were it not made of Helixium, her sword would’ve shattered multiple times.
Willow stared blankly, stunned by the seamless efficiency of their teamwork. While they seemed to constantly bicker, they complemented each other as if they'd been working together for a long time.
When Evangeline's power warped the entire space and crushed the monster, Darian's attack exploited the opening, powerfully pressing it down.
It was an overwhelmingly dominant situation, but Willow slowly got to her feet. She let out a hollow laugh, then said, “It's a joke for the eldest one to just stand by watching from the side.”
No matter how different the circumstances, they were her younger siblings. She felt a sudden urge to cry happy tears, seeing how well they had grown up.
Her divine power was rapidly recovering.
Despite being in a space where the rules were so distorted that recovering divine power or mana was nearly impossible, and even breathing felt difficult, Willow was still a goddess.
As long as it wasn't something like Doomsday of the Red Void, her power was pretty much universally effective.
Just then, the old tree vines simultaneously lunged at the two, and Evangeline and Darian, without hesitation, dashed towards Doomsday’s main body.
Naturally, the slower vines collided and became entangled in the air. It was a failure of coordination.
Yet, Doomsday didn't give up or stop the attack there. The entangled vines pulsed and began to change shape, then lunged at the two from behind like buckshot.
[Suppression]
Thud!!
Willow's authority instantly halted the massive vines mid-air.
Understanding the situation, Evangeline immediately kicked off the ground and dashed in. Darian followed her at an incredible speed, providing cover.
“Those idiots!”
If they knew an ambush might be waiting for them, they should’ve known better than to charge in recklessly.
The vines kept moving even after being struck by Willow’s authority, advancing faster than she could stop the two.
It was the moment Willow was about to shout, watching the old tree vines charge at the more threatening Evangeline first.
Evangeline tossed her cherished sword, Twilight, to Darian who was covering her flank.
He leaped into the air, caught Twilight, and gripped a sword in each hand.
[Longsword]
[Masterpiece]
When an explosive amount of weight simultaneously emanated from him, Willow's eyes abruptly widened. She involuntarily shouted, “Noname King?!”
Crack! CRACKK!!!
His swordsmanship erupted into a massive wave of blade energy, instantly pulverizing the ancient vines flying toward Evangeline's back.
Without a moment's hesitation, she charged forward, trusting Darian to protect her.
Doomsday, enraged that its calculated attack had missed, rapidly regenerated its severed forelegs and swung them at Evangeline. “KRAAAHHH!!!!”
The aftershock alone was powerful enough to temporarily incapacitate even a goddess. Nonetheless, Evangeline refused to retreat even an inch and fixed her vertically slit pupils precisely on the monster.
“HEEEYAHHH!!”
BOOM!!!
She foolishly charged head-on, colliding with Doomsday.
Given the sheer difference in their size, it wouldn't have been strange if Evangeline was instantly crushed and turned into a meat jelly.
Yet, amazingly, Evangeline not only deflected its attack but also pulverized both forelegs that had attacked her.
Darian then lightly stepped on one of her wings, using it as a springboard to launch himself forward like a cannonball.
Willow once again recognized what move was used. “Demonic Spirit Sword?”
Slash!!
A black blade energy, soft unlike a longsword, flashed instantly.
In the blink of an eye, Darian was airborne, flying above the monster's back, and Doomsday’s head was severed with a black afterimage.
Considering its body was incredibly tough, unlike what one would expect from wood, the degree of destruction was astonishing.
Doomsday was instantly neutralized, missing both its forelegs and having its head severed.
A red orb, appearing to be its core, popped out from within its corpse.
“Willow!”
Following Evangeline's shout, Willow instinctively materialized a musket the size of her body and quickly took aim.
Normally, she would have used suppression. But this time was different.
[Rampage]
The authority of rampage settled on her bullet, creating a shockwave and tearing the space as it left the muzzle and flew in.
The bullet, meeting no resistance, went straight for the core. Doomsday’s body quickly squirmed like a slime, trying to restore its head, but her bullet was faster.
Crack!!!
The sound of something breaking echoed as the bullet collided with the core. The recovering head instantly collapsed like a jelly or wacky waving inflatable-arm-flailing tube man that had lost its power source.
At the same time, Evangeline lunged at its remaining legs and her gigantic dragon forelegs ripped through the space on both sides, crushing its body.
Darian plummeted down, holding Twilight and his own sword, creating a vortex of blades. He used the Sword God Ares’s technique of the Sword God, but the blade was wrapped in the unique black blade energy of the Heavenly Destroyer’s Demonic Spirit Sword.
“You don't know how many years I've waited just to kill you.” His eyes flashed with a chilling, keen red light that looked like a comet's tail. “Seriously... We’ve waited so long, you bastard.”
Slash!!!
Darian sliced what remained of Doomsday’s body into several pieces and shook his sword with disgust.
The being’s entire energy slowly began to fall silent.
Willow stood there blankly.
‘Did we really finish it off before Dad came? Did we actually destroy Doomsday, not just another original sin?’
When Evangeline silently approached and hugged her, she slowly spoke up and asked, “It's... over, right?”
“Yeah, Willow. It's all over...” Evangeline said in a sad voice.
Willow turned to Darian, who was approaching her with an uncertain look, and asked, “Darian... are you hurt anywhere?”
“No...” He slowly approached and firmly pinched Evangeline's pointy ear.
“Ouch!! That hurts, you asshole!”
Then he roughly pushed her away and looked down at Willow. “Ummmm. Willow?”
“Ah. Ummmm...?”
“Can I hug you just once?”
Yet, he acted before he heard an answer. He pulled her into a hug and only managed to mutter, “Thank you for being alive...”
The regret in that single sentence was heart wrenching.
Standing atop a distant cliff, Davey quietly looked down at them as they embraced in silence, sharing in their relief, sorrow, and joy.
“Still a bit green,” he remarked with a smirk.
The masked figure standing next to him shook his head, countering, “How could a child easily beat their parents? Darian and Evangeline are ridiculously strong because their origins were no joke, but that's still too high a bar to set.”
“I get Evangeline,” Davey began. “Her strength makes sense. But Darian... how much did he have to go through before becoming so powerful?”
The figure smiled. “I had to do everything I could for him as a father, as much as he wanted.”
That gave Davey a hint. “Did you send him to the Hall of Heroes?”
“I stole a piece of his time-axis and rolled him through vast amounts of time, just like you and I were. He's still a bit green, but he's got the talent to reach an astonishing height someday. He's the most reliable and trustworthy eldest son,” the young man with a mask on said.
Davey let out a hollow laugh. “I don't know whether to be proud or sorry...”
“At least be proud.”
With that, both of them quietly used a bit of magic.
At the same time, the final, faint fragment of Doomsday—which the three hadn't noticed—crumbled and dispersed.
“You should go teach them a lesson about making sure their opponent’s dead,” Davey said with a smirk.
“Right. So? What do you think?”
“About what?”
“Your kids. Evangeline and Darian both turned out so well. How does it feel to see the people they've become?”
Davey smiled and answered, “Pretty proud, I guess.”
The young man smiled bitterly. He thought for a moment before saying, “And also, you should go comfort Kouna well.”
“...You know you did something awful to Abel, don't you? Let me say again, even if Perserque permits it this time, I won't. The affection Kouna has for me is a twisted form of familial love, much like Reina's obsession.”
“Even if that's true, as long as you try just a little, that deeply wounded kid can begin to smile a little faster. Abel did what I couldn't. If I had only done it a little sooner, Kouna could’ve shown a normal, lively side.”
“Why go that far?” Davey asked, puzzled.
“Because I'm her guardian. Well, I say that, but she's really no different from a biological daughter.”
His words were difficult to fully agree with, but Davey understood his point.
It was cruel, but he was nonetheless firm in his decision. It was a necessary process for Kouna.
“She’s only grown in age, not maturity. She's still a total kid.”
“She didn't receive proper family love and picked up a sword at a young age, so that's only to be expected.”
Davey burst out laughing. “Anyway. What's with that mask? It's so tacky.”
“What’s wrong with this mask? Super Ribbon made it for me while working on an old graduation project.”
“Oh... Well, looking at it again, I can see it’s an incredible mask. A very classic design, and the mana arrangement is perfect. I could tell right off the bat that it was something only someone as beautiful, smart, and talented as Super Ribbon could make. Yes. Indubitably.”
The figure let out a short laugh and started to remove his mask, but then paused. “But... is it really the end?”
Davey suddenly felt a strange sensation and looked around.
“Don't worry about the rest. I'll take care of it.”
Saying so, he lightly waved his hand. Then, something astonishing happened.
“Ah. Isn't this the one thing I've always wanted to say? And God said...” he began.
“Let there be light.”
“Let there be light.”
Davey chuckled, and the young man wearing the mask, the other Davey, unleashed a vast amount of light from his fingertips, enveloping the entire space.
