The Zhou Family.
Outside the inner hall.
A tall figure stood in a corner of the courtyard, his entire being nearly melting into the night.
After observing from the shadows for a moment and seeing nothing out of the ordinary, Lu Bai silently approached the inner hall.
He had never been to the Zhou Family estate before and was unfamiliar with the layout.
But with his Eye of Illusion, he could clearly detect the place where Yin Qi gathered.
Following the direction of the converging Yin Qi, Lu Bai crept to the outside of the inner hall and pressed his ear against the wall to listen.
There was the distinct sound of breathing from within.
An oil lamp was lit inside. Moving closer, he could faintly make out a seated figure through the paper-paned window.
If he wasn’t mistaken, the person inside was Madam Zhou!
Lu Bai’s eyes glinted, killing intent surging within him!
Just as he was about to break down the door, a cold laugh came from inside.
"Someone actually dared to track me down here. How reckless!"
Before the words had faded, a gust of sinister wind rushed toward him.
Lu Bai immediately activated his Eye of Illusion and focused his gaze.
He saw three ghostly figures pass through the door and window, charging straight for him.
These three figures were dressed like servants of the Zhou Family, and each wore a savage expression.
Lu Bai remained calm. He waited until the three ghostly figures lunged at him, then suddenly circulated his Blood Qi to activate the Ancient Mirror.
The Ancient Mirror instantly burst forth with a dark light, enveloping the three ghostly figures.
All three ghostly figures revealed looks of terror.
In the next moment, Lu Bai’s chest seemed to transform into a massive, abyssal vortex, erupting with an extremely powerful suction that pulled the three ghostly figures into the Ancient Mirror.
Within a one-foot radius, these Ghost Souls and malevolent spirits had no chance of escape.
Three wisps of Soul Light acquired!
Lu Bai’s spirits soared. He stepped forward, pushed open the door, and scanned the room, his eyes immediately landing on Madam Zhou on the bed.
Madam Zhou, dressed in luxurious brocade, first showed a flash of surprise in her eyes when she saw Lu Bai barge in with a longsword in hand.
It seemed she hadn’t expected that the three Ghost Souls would fail to stop him.
"You... How did you..."
After the initial surprise, a trace of panic flickered in Madam Zhou’s eyes.
Without another word after bursting into the room, Lu Bai charged toward Madam Zhou by the bed like a hungry tiger pouncing on its prey.
The moment he set foot in the inner hall, he suddenly felt a chill. The Yin Qi was so dense that the hair on his body stood on end.
But it quickly returned to normal.
Lu Bai had no time to think.
’Madam Zhou is right there. I’ll kill her first and deal with the rest later!’
PSHHHT!
Lu Bai thrust his longsword forward, piercing through Madam Zhou’s throat in a single strike!
He pulled the sword out, and fresh blood spurted forth.
Madam Zhou fell backward, silent and still.
Despite having killed Madam Zhou, Lu Bai didn’t relax. Instead, he tightened his grip on his longsword, his expression grave, as his left hand reached for the Peach Wood Sword on his back, which was coated in Black Dog Blood.
’Everything... seems to have gone too smoothly.’
From the moment he entered the inner hall, he had felt something was off.
’What’s going on?’
Lu Bai remained on high alert, not daring to let his guard down.
"Heh heh... hehehehe..."
A sinister laugh suddenly echoed from the bed.
Under Lu Bai’s watchful gaze, Madam Zhou, whom he had just killed, actually sat up on the bed.
Her throat, which should have been pierced, showed not the slightest wound!
"You dare come to kill me with such paltry skills?"
A bizarre smile spread across Madam Zhou’s face.
’That last strike definitely hit Madam Zhou.’
’The feeling of the blade piercing flesh and bone was crystal clear.’
Lu Bai refused to believe that Madam Zhou possessed the means to resurrect herself, much less that such a grievous wound could heal in the blink of an eye!
"It’s an illusion!"
Lu Bai understood instantly.
’That’s the only possibility.’
He had felt something strange the moment he entered the inner hall.
’I must have fallen into some kind of Illusion Realm back then.’
’There are other Ghostly Creatures in the inner hall!’
A divine light flickered in Lu Bai’s eyes as he activated his Eye of Illusion once more.
There was no obvious change in the room.
But the bed was empty—there was no sign of Madam Zhou at all!
At that moment, Madam Zhou was standing by the window on the west side of the bed, clutching a white bone-china jar. Her gaze was vicious as she stared coldly at Lu Bai.
At the same time, Lu Bai caught sight of a small, thin ghostly figure rapidly approaching him from his side and rear!
Lu Bai pretended not to notice. He stood perfectly still, looking around in confusion.
His eyes, the only feature visible, showed a look of panic and fear.
A sneer formed on Madam Zhou’s lips.
Lu Bai watched as the small, thin ghostly figure drew near, reaching out its hands to grab him.
He spun around abruptly, his eyes flaring. He circulated his Blood Qi and activated the Ancient Mirror.
"I’ve been waiting for you!"
The Ancient Mirror instantly burst forth with a dark light that enveloped the small ghostly figure. At the same time, it manifested a pitch-black, endless abyssal vortex, trying to suck the figure into the mirror.
The small ghostly figure sensed the Ancient Mirror’s aura and was clearly terrified. A ball of green flame erupted from its body, and it instantly broke free from the mirror’s restraint, fleeing into the distance!
"Hmm?"
Lu Bai was startled.
He had waited until this small ghostly figure was right upon him before suddenly activating the Ancient Mirror.
’I didn’t expect it to escape even after being enveloped by the Ancient Mirror’s light!’
’This ghostly figure is clearly different from the other malevolent Ghost Souls I’ve encountered!’
Lu Bai reacted with extreme speed, instantly drawing the Peach Wood Sword coated in Black Dog Blood from his back and slashing at the ghostly figure before him.
The Peach Wood Sword struck the small ghostly figure’s body.
The small ghostly figure seemed completely unaffected, quickly escaping the range of the Ancient Mirror’s dark light.
’The Peach Wood Sword is useless?’
Lu Bai frowned to himself.
The small ghostly figure scurried into the shadows of the ceiling beams, peeking down with only half its head exposed.
It was clearly terrified of Lu Bai and didn’t dare to approach.
When Lu Bai gave chase, the small ghostly figure fled again, giving him no opportunity to get close.
"Ah Hao, what are you hiding from!"
Madam Zhou shouted sharply from the side, patting the bone-china jar.
"Ah Hao?"
Lu Bai suddenly recalled that Madam Zhou’s young son, who had died prematurely, was named Zhou Hao.
’What a vicious demoness!’
’To practice Ghost Cultivation on her own son!’
Lu Bai’s gaze snapped sideways, instantly locking onto Madam Zhou by the window. His body seethed with killing intent, his eyes as sharp as blades!
"Ah!"
Madam Zhou hadn’t expected Lu Bai to be unaffected by the Illusion Realm and to find her position instantly. Her face paled in shock.
"Ah Hao, quickly, save your mother!"
Madam Zhou shouted for help as she ran for the door.
"Still trying to escape?"
Lu Bai closed the distance in a few quick strides and swung his sword horizontally, aiming to slice off Madam Zhou’s head!
That Madam Zhou had an extremely poor Martial Dao foundation, but with her life on the line, she reacted with unexpected speed, instinctively ducking her head.
The next moment, she felt a cool sensation on the top of her head.
Lu Bai’s sword had grazed her scalp as it passed.
It had missed taking off half her head by a hair’s breadth!
Before she could react, she felt a sharp pain in her back.
PSHHHT!
A blood-soaked sword tip emerged from her chest.
With another strike, Lu Bai had run Madam Zhou straight through!
He put force into his arm and pulled the longsword out.
THUD.
Madam Zhou collapsed to the ground, blood pouring endlessly from her wound.
Coughing up blood, her hair disheveled and her expression pained, she still tried to struggle and crawl toward the door.
Lu Bai stepped forward and stomped heavily on her back, nearly crushing her internal organs!
Lu Bai grabbed a handful of her long hair, yanked her head up, raised his sword, and chopped down hard on the back of her neck!
PSHHHT!
The sword flashed, and a head hit the floor!
In reality, the sword thrust that had pierced her heart had already sealed her fate.
But Lu Bai, worried this demoness might have other strange tricks up her sleeve, had delivered another blow to make absolutely sure she was dead.
Seeing Madam Zhou decapitated, motionless, and as dead as one could be, Lu Bai finally let out a soft sigh of relief.
