However, the Night Watcher didn’t understand his hint.
Or rather, he understood but misinterpreted the meaning.
The Night Watcher thought Sopea wanted him to do Adelf a favor. After all, Sean was a member of the Dawn Council and shouldn’t be disciplined by him. But unfortunately, if there was one thing he detested, it was playing politics.
Besides, this whole mess started because of Sean in the first place. If Sean hadn’t claimed the Holy Temple Ruins were buried near World’s End and that the Florist Family possessed the ingredients for the Kersu Magic Potion, who would have come all the way out here?
If he wasn’t going to teach Sean a lesson, was he supposed to teach himself one?
"Go on and reflect on what you’ve done."
"If I were you, I would voluntarily write a formal self-criticism report of no less than five thousand words to make sure I learned my lesson."
Sopea: "..."
Sean: "..."
’They even want a self-criticism report?’
’Just what you’d expect from the Hall of Truth.’
After the two of them left the Night Watcher’s room, Sopea couldn’t hold it in any longer and quickly explained to Sean, "Mr. Sean, please don’t blame the Chairman. That’s just his personality; he takes everything very seriously."
Sean smiled. "Don’t worry, I’m not that petty. His personality is actually quite good, but this self-criticism report is a bit of a headache..."
He couldn’t even remember the last time he’d had to write something like this.
Sopea immediately offered, "I’ll write it."
Sean shook his head. "No need. I’ll do it myself."
"When he finally learns who I am, I’ll hand him the report in person."
Sopea: "..."
’It’s hopeless.’
"Let’s go. To the New World," Sean said.
The two returned to the hotel suite.
Elvire and Kate were already prepared and waiting for them.
The young woman even asked, "The Night Watcher didn’t give you a hard time, did he?"
"Nope." Sean blinked. "I’m Miss Flame Crow’s man. He has to show me some respect, right?"
Elvire shot him a glare. "Stop being a smart-mouth."
Sopea, meanwhile, mourned for the Night Watcher in his heart.
He knew Sean had his own plans. Perhaps the day he became a Grand Mage once more would be the day Lord Carl Black was truly "resurrected." ’I just hope that when that day comes, the Chairman will still be as defiant as he was tonight...’
"Enough chit-chat. We’re on a schedule," Kate said to Sopea. "Come on, get in the room with me."
Elvire, however, didn’t let Sean into the room. She wanted to avoid any suspicion; otherwise, who knew what people might think they were doing in there.
The living room sofa was perfectly fine.
This time, Elvire didn’t even offer Sean her feet. She just sat next to him on the sofa, their shoulders touching. The TV in front of them, which Kate had turned on earlier, was still on. They looked like a young couple binge-watching a show at home.
"If things go south in a bit, you run first. Don’t worry about me," Sean said to Elvire.
There were four of them in total. Using three people as "human shields" to attract Robes’s attention might buy Elvire a slim chance of survival, a chance to escape the Florist Family.
Elvire huffed lightly. "Don’t worry, I never planned on worrying about you."
’Everything that happened before was Elise’s doing, not hers.’
Sean looked amusedly at Elvire’s small, rosy lips.
Elvire immediately grew wary. "What’s with that look?"
Sean said, "I was thinking, your lips look so soft. So why are you so hard-headed?"
Elvire: "?"
"You’re the one who’s hard-headed!"
"Focus! Concentrate on your Meditation!"
"As you wish, Miss Flame Crow."
After a few simple lines of banter, the air in the living room gradually fell quiet, leaving only the sound of a news broadcast from the moderately-volumed TV.
The two of them entered the state smoothly, once again arriving in the "New World."
As expected, they did indeed materialize in the reception hall of the Florist Family’s Ancient Castle.
What they didn’t expect, however, was that the Florist Family’s home had been transformed, no longer possessing the grandeur and solemnity an Ancient Castle should have.
Because it had been burned down.
A massive fire seemed to have occurred here—so large that even the roof beams had collapsed. Though Sean and Elvire were technically indoors, they could look up and see the clear blue sky. They were surrounded by walls charred black by the flames and a complete mess of ash and rubble covering the ground.
Sean stared, dumbfounded, at the scene before him. It felt absurd and unreal, and for a moment, he didn’t know whether to be relieved or alarmed.
"What happened here?"
"Why did it turn out like this?"
"I have no idea..."
Elvire was also a little dumbstruck.
She had already been prepared to make a run for it with Sean, but upon logging in, it seemed the Florist Family had "run off" even before them.
The fire had been thorough. The castle’s structure and walls were seventy to eighty percent collapsed. Even standing in the reception hall, their view was remarkably open, allowing them to see straight into the garden in the front courtyard. There wasn’t a single person in sight, only the lingering scorched smell in the air that kept creeping into their nostrils.
There was no sign of Kate and Sopea either.
A thought stirred in Sean’s mind. "Could it be that because they died before, their character saves failed? So when they re-entered the ’New World,’ they had to start a new, low-level character at a different starting point?"
"That doesn’t make sense," Elvire said.
Sean tilted his head. "I think it makes perfect sense?"
The rules of the "New World" really were a lot like a game.
Whether Robes was dead or had fled, he wasn’t at the Ancient Castle camping their "respawn point." This brought Sean a great sense of relief.
"I’m talking about what we’re seeing right now..." Elvire said, scanning their surroundings. "This fire doesn’t make sense."
It made even less sense for the Florist Family to flee because of a fire.
Robes was a Grand Mage, and who knew how many Wizards were within the Florist Family. No matter how fierce the blaze, could it really have been a challenge for them?
