BUZZ.
The moment Sean accepted the mission, the Blood Red Crystal erupted with a flash of light and then vanished.
This meant the required number of people for the mission to assassinate the Saintess had been filled. Six in total, and Sean was the last.
The two people beside Sean were stunned for a moment, clearly not expecting him to accept the mission just like that.
’If we’re not mistaken, this guy’s Magic Power is only Tier Three. He dares to assassinate the Saintess at just Tier Three? By the time he reaches Tier Five or Tier Six, won’t he be off to assassinate the Pope?’
"You’re bold."
"It’s nothing special."
Sean said nonchalantly, "I just like to do thrilling things."
’Thrilling?’
It was certainly thrilling.
Never mind assassinating the Saintess; just infiltrating Hesinra Palace was enough to make one’s heart pound wildly.
But one shouldn’t forget that thrills often came with danger. The bigger the thrill, the higher the chance of having tea with God.
"Be careful you don’t throw your own life away," the man warned pointedly.
"It’s fine. I’m okay with throwing it away." It was easy for Sean to talk big; his life wasn’t valuable anyway. The worst-case scenario was just starting over. He deliberately flashed a slightly twisted smile and licked the corner of his mouth. "I’ve heard that every Church Saintess is breathtakingly beautiful, with unparalleled looks. To die at the hands of such a gorgeous woman... this life would have been worth it."
The two men: "..."
’That... kind of makes sense?’
’Bullshit!’
"You’re a lunatic," the man retorted.
He had only come over to talk some sense into Sean because he was a newcomer. But not only did Sean refuse to listen, he actually seemed to have his "interest" piqued. In all his time in Blake City, he’d seen plenty of people with a death wish, but never one this extreme. And from the sound of it, this guy wanted to assassinate the Saintess simply because she was beautiful...
’That’s kind of twisted.’
"If you want to get yourself killed, then go ahead. No one’s stopping you." He huffed and turned to leave.
Sean actually understood where the man was coming from and rather appreciated his cautious personality.
Some risks shouldn’t be taken lightly. One must always consider the consequences before acting, or it will be too late for regret.
If this were the Real World, Sean wouldn’t be so reckless.
But it wasn’t.
He had many "lives."
Sean considered it a worthy trade: to spend one of those lives to go check out the Holy City of the Church Court, infiltrate Hesinra Palace to gather intelligence, and, while he was at it, see if the current Saintess was as beautiful as the First Saintess.
On the other hand, he had his own considerations.
Accepting the mission didn’t mean he had to carry it out immediately.
His primary goal was to leave Blake City.
First, he would find a chance to go home for a look, then he would search for "Alola Town."
Both New Elderidge in the Real World and Old Elderidge in the "New World" were located at the continent’s center. In Sean’s eyes, this served as a relative coordinate to help him locate Alola Town. If Alola Town existed in the "New World," he could find it by following the route from the Real World.
If he couldn’t find it...
Then the Hall of Truth might truly not exist in the Real World, having been swallowed by the river of history.
Sean hoped he would be able to find Alola Town.
Otherwise, their arduous journey in the real world—crossing mountains and oceans to reach the World’s End—would lose all meaning.
And it would also make him look very stupid.
If no one knew his true identity, looking stupid wouldn’t matter. After all, he was just a Tier Three newbie, so it was reasonable for him to make a mistake now and then. But Sopea already knew he was Carl Black, which gave Sean a bit of an "idol’s burden." ’How could Lord Blake possibly be wrong?’
So, Sean wasn’t just searching for the truth of the "New World"; he was also protecting his own legendary image.
And aside from matters concerning the Holy Sanctuary, Sean himself wanted to find the Church Saintess and ask her if her conscience didn’t bother her for slandering him. The first time he’d heard from Klintor that he had supposedly "forcibly humiliated" the Saintess, he had wanted to find the person who wrote the history books and have a nice long "chat about life" with them. This was the perfect opportunity.
After accepting the mission to assassinate the Saintess, the tag on Sean’s wrist quickly received a message from the "Ministry of Foreign Affairs," telling him to assemble at the base of the city wall.
’They’re pretty efficient.’
Sean mused to himself. He’d figured they wouldn’t set out for another couple of days, not expecting the mission to be "immediate."
’Maybe it’s because I was the last one?’
...
「Half an hour later.」
Sean arrived at the rendezvous point.
The other five brave souls who dared to assassinate the Saintess also arrived on time.
To be honest, Sean was quite curious to see who these people were—who had as much nerve as he did, a man with many lives to spare.
Then Sean saw him: the man from the church who had just been telling him not to get himself killed.
He stared, dumbfounded. "?"
"What are you doing here?"
The man snorted. "What, if a Tier Three like you can come, why can’t I?"
He was a Tier Six—and a veteran one at that. Compared to Sean, he was far more qualified to assassinate the Saintess.
But this "qualification" was merely what they considered to be a qualification.
In reality, who knew if the Saintess was Tier Seven, Eight, Nine, or even Ten? Even a veteran Tier Six would most likely get one-shotted.
The strangest thing was that Sean had been the last person to accept the mission. This meant the man had decided to go to Hesinra Palace to "get himself killed" before Sean did. Yet this guy hadn’t mentioned a word about it; instead, he’d kept trying to persuade Sean not to go...
Sean couldn’t help but ask suspiciously, "Don’t tell me you also want to kill the Saintess just because she’s pretty, do you?"
The man gave him a disgusted look. "Don’t lump me in with you."
’What was that nonsense about dying at the hands of a beautiful woman making it all worthwhile?’
’He wasn’t that vulgar.’
