The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 203 - 116: Leaving the City

Sean was finally starting to understand.

This young woman had accepted the mission to assassinate the Saintess with absolutely no intention of coming back alive.

Tony was in it for the hefty reward, but that probably wasn’t the case for Eleanor.

The very fact that she had gone out of her way to buy an Invisibility Cloak to "lend" him showed that money wasn’t particularly important to her. Someone who could so generously spend money on a person she had just met shouldn’t be the type to risk her life for cash.

So she must have had other reasons for accepting this mission.

"Do you have a grudge against the Saintess?" Sean guessed.

Eleanor said, "Everyone here has a grudge against the Saintess."

Or rather, a grudge against the Church Court.

If it weren’t for the Church Court, why would they be hiding in Blake City, holing up underground every day, afraid to even show their faces outside?

"And besides that?" Sean asked. "I mean on a personal level."

In truth, that was impossible to set aside.

You had to understand, aside from Wizards like Sean who had joined later, the vast majority of people living in Blake City had countless ties to the Hall of Truth. If you thought of the Holy Sanctuary as a family, they were the orphans left to wander after its fall. Almost all of their ancestors had once been students of the Holy Sanctuary, and they had died at the hands of the Church Court.

This hatred was, one could say, irreconcilable. How could it possibly be set aside?

Otherwise, wouldn’t it just be a classic case of ignoring the facts?

And the Saintess represented the Church Court. Since they had a grudge against the Church Court, they naturally had a grudge against the Saintess too.

But that being said, Eleanor understood what Sean meant. "Personal level" referred to a private score to settle between her and the Saintess. So she answered, "Yes."

She did indeed have a grudge against the Saintess.

Eleanor admitted it readily.

"Because the Saintess killed my sister."

In the stack of photos Miss Lais had given them earlier, one of the girls had been her sister.

Her sister was one of the Wizards who took the mission to assassinate the Saintess in the last round. More than half a year had passed, and she still hadn’t returned.

An image of a girl’s face surfaced in Sean’s mind. Hearing Eleanor say this, he realized the girl’s pretty features did bear some resemblance to Eleanor. But it was hard for him to judge the situation objectively. ’After all, her sister took the mission herself. Looks like she did it secretly, without telling Eleanor. To put it bluntly, she was just asking to die.’

’Just like us now.’

’We know Hesinra Palace is full of dangers, yet we’re still going to assassinate the Saintess. If we get caught and killed, we’ll only have ourselves to blame.’

But that wasn’t something he could say out loud.

Fortunately, Eleanor didn’t need Sean to say anything.

She knew her sister had brought this end upon herself, but as the older sister, she had her own position. No matter what, this debt had to be placed at the Saintess’s feet. It might sound unreasonable, but she was one of the "Holy Temple Remnants." Between them and the Church Court, reason had never been part of the equation.

From the moment the Pope ignored all morality and attacked the Hall of Truth while Mr. Blake was away, the two sides had been locked in a struggle to the death. In any case, this hatred could never be resolved, so adding one more layer to it didn’t matter.

Eleanor didn’t dwell on the topic. She didn’t want to recall those painful, cruel memories. She gave Sean a smile and said, "Let’s not talk about these old stories. Go on, try the cloak on and see if it fits."

Sean smiled back. "Alright."

It was bound to fit. The cloak was huge, enough to cover a 200-pound man. For an adult of his normal, well-proportioned build, it could probably hide two people. The important thing was how well it worked.

The Invisibility Cloak could be used directly, but its effect was even better when combined with the spell "Vanish into Oblivion."

"Vanish into Oblivion" was essentially the "Invisibility Spell" with "Silent" integrated into it, making it an advanced version of the Invisibility Spell. Sean knew both spells, so naturally, it wasn’t a challenge for him.

Sean remembered that Yisha had a cloak just like this.

But the "New World" was from the Era of Polymath, so the materials used should be more "advanced" than Yisha’s.

Sean draped the cloak over his shoulders, uttered a spell, and his form almost completely disappeared. He became a transparent man that not even a Tier Six Wizard could detect.

He wore the cloak and followed Eleanor back to the street to meet up with Tony and the others. Then, he suddenly revealed his head, giving Tony a fright.

"Fuck!"

The Headless Knight is one thing, but this motherfucker is a head with no body!

A lone head "floating" in mid-air... who wouldn’t curse out loud at a sight like that?

Tony retorted irritably, "Are you a child or something?"

Is an Invisibility Cloak something you use to scare people?

"None of your business," Sean snorted, covering his head again.

He was doing it on purpose to get back at Tony. It was payback for how Tony had messed with him earlier.

Eleanor covered her mouth to stifle a giggle. ’Huh. So he’s the proud, pouty type.’

Tony shot an angry glare at the "air" and couldn’t be bothered to argue with Sean. He hadn’t finished his shopping yet.

Just as Eleanor had said, this was likely their last mission. Dying with money left unspent would be even more miserable than simply dying. So, everyone was on a shopping spree, buying whatever caught their eye without haggling. Saving money? That was out of the question.

"Oh, right. Do you have a Magic Wand?"

Eleanor asked Sean.

Even though she couldn’t detect any trace of Sean after he put on the Invisibility Cloak, a girl’s intuition told her that he was right beside her.

"No."

Before Eleanor could respond, Sean added, "I don’t need that thing."

A Magic Wand usually had two purposes: one, to speed up the casting of spells, and two, to store a certain amount of extra Magic Power for a Wizard.
