The former is an effect every Magic Wand possesses. A Magic Wand that doesn’t increase Casting speed isn’t a Magic Wand; it’s a fire poker.
Storing Magic Power, on the other hand, requires setting the Magic Wand with gems or Crystals, making them more expensive than ordinary wands.
Wizards of every Tier have limited Magic Power, so a High-Level Magic Wand can effectively increase their endurance in battle and their burst power.
To put it simply, it provides a Wizard with Magic Power beyond their own Basic Magic Power. It’s like packing "Forbidden Power" into a gem. Moreover, depending on the gem’s properties, it might even amplify certain types of Magic.
But Sean could use Forbidden Meditation. His own body was a giant gem. Besides, his Truth Technique fell outside the scope of conventional Elemental Magic. It couldn’t be amplified, nor did it need to be, so Sean naturally had no use for a Magic Wand.
Hearing this, Tony, who was standing to the side, let out a cold sneer. "Anyone who didn’t know better would think you’re a Grand Mage."
Theoretically speaking, only Grand Mages who could use Forbidden Spells didn’t need Magic Wands.
In reality, however, even Grand Mages often carried one. While they didn’t care about the extra Magic Power, they valued the elemental amplification. Gems with corresponding attributes could maximize the power of their Forbidden Spells.
Eleanor shot back bluntly, "When the grown-ups are talking, kids should keep their mouths shut."
Tony: "?"
’Seriously? Are you even older than me? And you’re calling me a kid?’
’Besides, I was talking about Sean. What’s it got to do with you?’
"Go ahead, keep protecting him," Tony muttered sullenly.
Eleanor couldn’t be bothered with him and turned her head to ask Sean, "You really don’t need one?"
"Magic Wands aren’t expensive. A decent one is only five or six hundred Silver Coins."
Everything here was for those below Tier Seven. And since Blake City had limited resources, the quality of most items wasn’t exactly top-tier. That was about as high as the price would get.
’Prices in the "New World" seem cheaper than in the Real World,’ Sean mused after a quick calculation.
’Too bad I can’t take it back with me.’
"I’m fine. Just buy what you need," Sean said.
"Alright," Eleanor said. "In that case, I’ll get you some extra Magic Potions."
Sean: "...Thanks."
Their team had no Wizards specializing in the Holy Light Technique, so they had to rely on Magic Potions for healing.
And so, the group browsed the Back Street for a while longer. When it was almost dark, they all headed home.
It was a strange thing, really.
Even though it was an Underground City, it still had a distinct day and night.
Sean lay on the hotel bed, gazing at the gradually extinguishing "sun" outside the window and the star-filled sky simulated with Magic, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
「The next day.」
After waking up, Sean ate a quick breakfast, then arrived at the city wall on time to meet up with Eleanor and the others.
Miss Lais wasn’t there this time. The one in charge of taking them out of the city was Lauden.
"You’ve really got a death wish, kid."
Lauden was surprised and utterly baffled to see Sean—the very same kid he’d "caught" just yesterday—among those leaving the city. His voice was laced with a certain exasperated disappointment. Why couldn’t the boy just stay safely in Blake City to cultivate and improve himself? Why was he so eager to run off and die?
Seeing Lauden’s attitude, Eleanor assumed Sean had gotten on his bad side and gently poked him. "Hey, how did you manage to offend him, too?"
That little "too" spoke volumes.
Yesterday it was Tony, today it was Lauden. It seemed like everyone was targeting Sean.
And Lauden’s status was even more "prestigious" than Tony’s.
Although he just guarded the entrance to the Underground City, it was a "public position." When he was off duty, he would even patrol the city and maintain order in Blake City. He was basically the "police" of this Underground City, and he definitely had more authority than an ordinary resident.
Tony, on the other hand, shot him a gloating look.
’See? It’s not just me who "bullies" the new guy.’
Sean felt rather aggrieved.
’I didn’t even do anything,’ he thought. ’Why is everyone so aggressive?’
’Is being weak really the original sin in the Wizarding World?’
Lauden didn’t say much more to Sean. He just asked the group, "Is everyone ready?"
Kave raised his hand. "No, I need to use the bathroom."
Lauden: "Why didn’t you go earlier?"
"Ready or not, follow me!"
Kave: "..."
’Then why the hell did you even ask?’
Lauden ignored Kave’s reproachful glare, turned around, and led the group up onto the city wall.
Passing the familiar, empty jail cell, Sean and the others quickly followed Lauden to the exit of the Underground City.
This was also the entrance to the villa’s basement.
’So it really was converted from my basement...’ Even though Sean had expected it, he couldn’t help but inwardly complain upon seeing it with his own eyes. ’To have an entire city secretly built beneath your own land, like finding a person hiding under your bed... and to be the last to know about it. The feeling was just bizarre.’
"If you need the bathroom, go now. Finish up quickly so we can get going," Lauden said.
Kave: "You got it."
’The plumbing in this house still works?’
An idea occurred to Sean, and he asked, "Can we look around the villa and see Mr. Blake’s former residence?"
Lauden glanced at him but didn’t reply, which Sean took as tacit approval.
Without another word, Sean went straight to the second floor.
Eleanor followed behind him.
She had visited this villa before on a previous mission; she was mainly following Sean because she was afraid he would cause trouble.
’You can’t just touch Mr. Blake’s things carelessly.’
’Although, there wasn’t much of anything left here anymore...’
After several hundred years, it was already a "miracle" that the bathroom was still usable, all thanks to the regular maintenance from Lauden and his men. In terms of cleanliness, the entire villa was much cleaner than Sean had imagined. Likewise, in terms of possessions, it was also much "cleaner"—as in, emptier—than he had imagined.
Especially his former bedroom.
As the most powerful Mage of the Era of Polymath, Carl Black’s power and wealth went without saying. The moment Sean stepped into the room, a bone-deep sense of familiarity mixed with fragmented memories flooded his mind.
He began to remember things.
This one-hundred-square-meter bedroom had three separate rooms: a walk-in closet, a study, and a collection room.
Besides being a place for reading, the study sometimes served as a "reception room" for close companions. It held countless memories of his time with the First Saintess, Olivia, and the young lady of the Blazing Angel Family, Daeli.
Most of the clothes in the walk-in closet were not his, but Olivia’s and Daeli’s.
The collection room, meanwhile, stored many valuable artifacts.
For example, the "Tear of the Endless Sea."
That was a natural gemstone from the depths of the Endless Sea, as large as a fist, placed in the most conspicuous spot on a cabinet.
But now, not only was the gem gone, but the other artifacts had also vanished, leaving only a vast, empty cabinet and a thick layer of dust on its shelves.
There had also been a painting on the wall, but it was gone too.
It was a portrait Olivia had painted for him herself.
"Did Mr. Gomez and the others put all these things away?" Sean asked.
Eleanor shook her head. "If they had, there would be a museum in Blake City dedicated to Mr. Blake."
But in reality, there isn’t one.
"They weren’t put away. They were stolen by people from the Church Court," Eleanor said.
Back when Blake City was first established, all the valuables in this villa were already gone. Only an empty shell remained.
Although there was no concrete evidence to prove the Church Court did it, it didn’t take much thought to realize: besides the Church Court, who would have the guts to come to Mr. Blake’s home and steal things?
And since the Church Court chose to move against the Holy Sanctuary, they naturally wouldn’t have spared Mr. Blake’s residence.
No matter how you looked at it, it had to be the Church Court.
"Those guys really cleaned the place out," Sean said with an exasperated laugh.
’If the Church Court had destroyed the Hall of Truth over conflicting ideals or for some political reason, I could almost understand. But not only did they destroy the Hall of Truth, they also ransacked my home! Wasn’t that going too far? A complete violation of any rules of engagement?’
"Tell me about it," Eleanor said, pursing her lips. She had been quite angry about it at first, but her anger had long since faded, so her reaction wasn’t as raw as Sean’s. "Didn’t you go to the church? Many of those item-retrieval quests are to recover Mr. Blake’s lost belongings."
Sean: "..."
’Let’s not with the "relics."’
’I’m not dead yet.’
Eleanor, however, didn’t notice the subtle shift in his expression and continued, "I know you revere Mr. Blake. So do I. Everyone in Blake City reveres Mr. Blake. But don’t be too angry. What’s done is done, and we’re working hard to rebuild the Holy Sanctuary. One day, we will make the enemy pay the price."
"What we have lost today, they will one day repay twofold."
"I’m sure that if Lord Blake, watching from above, knew that we’ve never forgotten him, he would be pleased..."
"Huh? What’s wrong?"
As Eleanor was speaking, she saw the corner of Sean’s mouth twitch and couldn’t help but tilt her head and ask, "Did I say something wrong?"
Sean replied, his face expressionless, "No."
’You’re right. Lord Blake is *very* pleased.’
