The Most Arbitrary Wizard

Chapter 230 - 128: Misunderstanding and Dogs

Tony snapped back to his senses and glared viciously at Sean. "Woof woof!"

Everyone: "?"

’So, you want to be a dog for Her Highness the Saintess too, huh?’

Eleanor rolled her eyes, not even bothering to make a snide remark. She just tapped Elise’s shoulder and said, "Quick, put it away. If the Saintess finds out you were secretly taking her picture, you’ll be in for it."

"No way. I mean, I did take it secretly, but how could something like this possibly escape the notice of Her Highness the Saintess? The Saintess is Tier Ten. At the time, the entire knight’s training grounds—every single person’s every move—was under her watch. There’s no hiding anything; it just depends on whether she cares enough to do something about it."

The fact that this photo was still on her phone, safe and sound, meant the Saintess didn’t mind.

After all, the photographer was a girl.

It would have been a different story if it were a man.

Still, despite what she said, Elise listened to her sister. She put her phone away and teased, "You boys are all the same. You just freeze up whenever you see a pretty girl."

Eleanor couldn’t agree more.

And yet, it was Sean—the one who’d asked Miss Lais about finding call girls—who only glanced at the picture before looking away.

It just goes to show, if you want to understand someone, you can’t listen to what they say. You have to watch what they do.

Compared to Teacher Tony, who could bark better than a real dog, Sean was clearly the one who wouldn’t be swayed by a pretty face.

But the truth was...

Sean just saw things more clearly.

’This generation’s Saintess is indeed very beautiful, but we’re not from the "same world." No matter how gorgeous she is, to me she’s just a fictional "NPC" of little significance. I can’t possibly waste my time serving her or trying to win her favor. Besides, in terms of seniority, I’m her ancient predecessor. If anyone should be doing the fawning, it should be her fawning over me, hmph.’

Elise was still talking.

The two sisters had obviously different personalities; the younger was far more vivacious than the elder. She clicked her tongue. "Tsk, tsk. One photo and you’re all hooked. What’s going to happen when you see her in person?"

Kave: "Heh."

"What does a little kid like you know?"

"We’re just determining whether this picture of yours has been retouched. How could any woman in the world possibly be this perfect?"

Ryan smoothly played along. "How about this: you tell us when the Saintess is visiting False Heaven again, and we’ll go see for ourselves just what kind of ’magic’ Her Highness has."

"In your dreams!" Elise snickered. "Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to."

"Her Highness the Saintess isn’t someone you can meet just because you want to."

"Lady Catherine already explained why, so I won’t repeat it and bruise your egos."

It was like a fresh recruit asking to see the general—they were simply not qualified.

"There are only two ways to meet Her Highness the Saintess."

"First, join the Knight Order and swear to follow and serve Her Highness the Saintess for the rest of your life."

"Second, you still join the Knight Order, but through a different method. You have to defeat your opponents at the Table of Truth."

Elise explained.

Since the topic had come up, she figured she might as well give Tony and the others more information about False Heaven.

This was also something Lady Catherine had instructed. Every new Wizard in False Heaven has their own "Leader." It just so happened that her sister was among this batch of "new recruits," so she was assigned the role. For the next three months, starting immediately, she would be responsible for Sean and the others’ daily needs. After three months, they’d have to fend for themselves, just like in Blake City.

The difference was that here, Her Highness the Saintess was the public-facing ruler of the city.

If they had a choice, everyone would want to meet the Saintess through the second method—or rather, be summoned by her.

Applying to join the Knight Order versus being personally invited by the Saintess were two entirely different things.

It was just a shame that 99.9-repeating percent of people didn’t have the skill for it.

"The Table of Truth?"

Kave asked in confusion, "What’s that?"

Ryan stroked his chin and mused, "Sounds like some kind of dueling arena?"

Sean: "..."

’He’d almost forgotten. People from the Era of Polymath were very fond of duels. They were an elegant way to display one’s strength to opponents and spectators alike. At the same time, they were also a method to prevent conflicts from escalating, keeping grudges locked between individuals. Nobles didn’t typically bother with drawn-out revenge; if they had a grudge, they usually just killed the person on the spot.’

"Ugh, so barbaric." Elise waved her hand in mock disgust. "The Table of Truth and a duel are two completely different things."

"A duel involves real, physical combat. You have to get your hands dirty. At the Table of Truth, however, both parties only need to—and indeed, can only—sit in their seats and cast Spells."

"The Table is much more elegant than a duel," Elise said.

Kave was speechless. "You’re still casting Spells. No matter how elegant you make it sound, isn’t that just a duel?"

’At best, a physical confrontation becomes a more cerebral one.’

"Oh, honestly! I already told you it’s different," Elise said. "And you think they’re just casting ordinary Spells?"

Kave: "What else would they be?"

’They can’t possibly be casting Forbidden Spells, can they?’

’Even if we could cast them, would the Saintess dare let us?’

’A real Forbidden Spell has power far beyond what anyone can imagine. It could obliterate False Heaven in minutes.’

"Pay attention to the ’Truth’ in the name."

Elise tapped her fingers on the tabletop, lecturing them like a little teacher. "It’s called the Table of Truth, so naturally, it has to do with the Truth Technique."

"You’ve heard of the Truth Technique, right?"

"It exists outside the twelve major paths of Magic, was created by Mr. Blake, and was once the strongest path and the pride of the Hall of Truth."
