Daeli, also wearing a blue gown, stayed by Elvire’s side and asked softly, "So, do you like it?"

"I love it! Of course I do!"

Who wouldn’t like coming home and being spoiled like a princess?

But then she thought about how many people they had invited tonight and how much it must have cost. Elvire couldn’t help but wince. "It’s just... a little extravagant."

Daeli burst out laughing. "One would think you were born into a poor family this life."

’Who would’ve thought I’d hear the word "extravagant" from the mouth of my sister, the same one who used to treat money like it was just paper?’

"Well, every lifetime is different," Elvire said, her face flushing slightly. It was a rare display of her more girlish side. In front of her sister, she couldn’t help but want to act spoiled. ’Thank goodness that guy Sean isn’t here,’ she thought. ’He’d definitely use this as an excuse to tease me.’

’Speaking of whom... now that I’ve found my sister and we’ve reunited, my mission in the New World is pretty much complete. I wonder how Sean is doing?’

Daeli pursed her lips. Her sister’s momentary lapse in attention hadn’t escaped her notice.

’We haven’t seen each other in so long, yet even while she’s with me, she’s thinking about someone else. That must mean this person is very important to Elvire—perhaps just as important as I am.’

"Got a boyfriend?" Daeli asked.

Elvire was stunned.

She snapped back to reality. "No, no!"

"Me? How could I possibly have a boyfriend!"

Daeli nodded. "That means you do."

Elvire was speechless.

"I really don’t!"

Knowing she couldn’t fool her sister, she relented and added, "Not officially, at least."

Daeli chuckled. "Is that so? Well, whenever it becomes official, bring him home so I can meet him."

"Anyone who wants to be my brother-in-law has to get past me first."

"You should probably give him a heads-up so he can prepare himself. My standards are very high."

"That’s a long way off!" Elvire said, blushing as she tried to change the subject. "You’ve changed, Sis."

"Hm?" Daeli looked at her, confused. "Are you talking about my appearance?"

Reincarnation meant a new body, so of course her appearance would change. But she could change back whenever she wanted.

"No, no," Elvire said, shaking her head. "I mean your poise. And the way you speak."

’The Daeli in front of me now is more distant than the one I remember. Her old aloofness was just on the surface, mostly because she didn’t like talking to people. This new aloofness is... softer. But that softness doesn’t make her more approachable. It’s more like a polite shell she uses to keep everyone at arm’s length. It’s a fundamental change in her aura.’

Daeli sounded slightly resigned. "I have no choice. How else am I supposed to deal with those great families?"

"That’s true," Elvire nodded. People grow up; she had, and so, naturally, had her sister.

Seeing that her attempt to change the subject had worked, Elvire decided to press her luck. She glanced at the laughing crowds in the garden and whispered, "Sis, why don’t we head back inside and let them enjoy the party?"

"We haven’t even had a chance to have a good chat yet."

Daeli had returned yesterday, and the banquet was being held today. In between, Daeli had matters to attend to, and Elvire hadn’t wanted to be a bother. They still hadn’t had a chance to really talk. Even their reunion had been little more than a half-hour-long hug, with barely a word spoken.

Not that they needed to.

She and Daeli recognized each other by their souls; they had long since engraved the other’s very essence into the depths of their being. A single glance was all they needed to confirm who the other was.

"Alright." After a brief moment of thought, Daeli agreed to Elvire’s request.

’As the guests of honor, it was rather impolite for them to leave early. But what could she do? Elvire was her favorite little sister, after all.’

’Besides, she also wanted to have a proper chat with Elvire.’

"Let’s go to my room," Daeli said, taking her sister’s hand, her eyes filled with adoration. "You can ask me anything you want in a little while. Don’t hold back. Otherwise, once you leave... who knows when we’ll see each other again."

She was incredibly busy these days, and so was Elvire.

Elvire, however, was the one taken aback by her words. "How did you know I have to leave, Sis?"

’I haven’t said anything like that, have I?’

A gentle smile touched Daeli’s lips, as if she were thinking of someone in particular.

"Not only do I know that you have to leave," she said, "I also know where you came from."

"The truth is, the ’you’ right now isn’t the real you, is it?"

Elvire was completely and utterly baffled.
